Raisi says ISIS, Zionist crimes are result of Western policies

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has said the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinian worshippers and those committed by ISIS against Afghan worshippers are the result of movements created by the West.

Speaking at a religious congregation marking the anniversary of Imam Ali’s martyrdom (PBUH) early on Saturday, Raisi said the current Afghan authorities are responsible for protecting all Afghans, including Shias.

He stated that Imam Ali exhorted Muslims to join with the downtrodden against the oppressors, pointing out that the world is witnessing two crimes against Muslims: the Zionists oppressing Palestinian worshippers and ISIS killing Afghans.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, the president stated that the fate of the Palestinian nation is decided by resistance movements rather than negotiators. He also described the impending International Quds Day as a symbol of Muslim solidarity and integration, expressing optimism that the day will result in the freedom of Quds and the victory of Palestinians to keep their rights that have been due for 70 years.

Bloodiest Ramadan in Afghanistan’s history

An explosion claimed by the Islamic State at a Shia mosque in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif on Thursday killed at least 11 people, a health official said, one of a series of blasts around the country. A separate blast led to at least 11 more casualties in Kunduz, another northern Afghan city, on Thursday, according to a provincial health official.

On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed Tehran’s deep concern over repeated bitter terrorist attacks in different cities in Afghanistan.

Khatibzadeh said targeting fasting worshippers is “disgusting”.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman called for patience by the bereaved families and wished recovery for the injured.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Mazar-e-Sharif attack.

The explosions took place during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and two days after blasts tore through a high school in a predominantly Shia Hazara area in western Kabul, killing at least six.

“A blast happened in 2nd district inside a Shia mosque,” Mohammad Asif Wazeri, the spokesman for the Taliban commander in Mazar-e-Sharif told Reuters.

Zia Zendani, the spokesman for the provincial health authority, said 11 people had been killed and 32 wounded in the blast.

Tens of Afghan cities held a demonstration in west of Kabul on Friday in protest to the terrorist attacks on Shias. They demanded “Stop the Killing of Hazaras”. The also shouted “Justice, Justice”.

The protestors demanded the Taliban to protects the lives of the Shia Hazaras.

Farhad Darya, a famous Afghan cultural figure, made a tweet on Thursday saying, “We can save lives! We can stop this genocide together!

U.S. is main cause of insecurity in region

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran FM tells Baghdad summit: U.S. is main cause of insecurity in region. Iran’s new Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian who participated in the Baghdad summit on Saturday blamed the U.S. for security problems in West Asia.

It was the first diplomatic tour by Amir Abdollahian in the post of foreign minister. He was confirmed as foreign minister after gaining the parliament’s vote of confidence on Wednesday.

Amir Abdollahian told the participants to the conference, attended by the Saudi foreign minister, king of Jordan, Emir of Qatar, the French president, and other key players in the region, that “the Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized the achievement of peace through dialogue and negotiation within the region.”

The following is the full text of his speech:

“In the name of God

I am very pleased to be present today at the conference in support of Iraq in Baghdad on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Raisi.

This meeting, with the presence of the countries of the region, confirms the efforts of the Republic of Iraq in creating areas for cooperation and interaction between the countries of the region, and I hope that through these meetings we can reach a prosperous, developed and free region.

Distinguished guests,

Today, Iraq is playing an important role in the region because of its constructive efforts and vision. The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries in the region to recognize the new Iraq and to develop its political, economic and trade exchanges by supporting the political processes in this country.

The new Iraq, liberated from terrorism, today needs internal reconstruction and strengthening, and the expansion of cooperation in the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran, while supporting the stability, security, independence, territorial integrity, dignity, authority and promotion of Iraq’s regional and international status, declares its readiness to develop bilateral and regional cooperation.

In recent years, trade between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq has reached more than $12 billion. The existence of 8 official active crossings between the two countries and the continuation of trade exchanges in these crossings, even despite the breakout of the coronavirus, indicate the economic entanglement of the two countries. In recent years, Iran has made a significant contribution to the development of Iraq’s economic and trade relations by exporting technical and engineering services, gas and electricity.

Distinguished guests,

The rise of ISIS was one of the most important dangers faced by the region and left irreparable damage. Unfortunately, Iraq has suffered a lot from the emergence of terrorist groups. Were it not for the will of the Iraqi people, the support of the religious authority and the convergence of the Iraqi people, it would not have been clear what would happen to Iraq and the countries of the region and how deeply the region and the world would be endangered by terrorist threats. The Islamic Republic of Iran rushed to the aid of the friendly and brotherly country of Iraq in the fight against terrorism and did not withhold any assistance in this direction. The Iraqi people, parties, various groups and the Iraqi government have sacrificed thousands of lives for independence and the fight against terrorism; however, the U.S. government committed a great crime and martyred two fighters of the Takfiri counter-terrorism front: Martyr Gen. Soleimani and Martyr Abu Mohandi Al-Mohandes. Not only did they not bring peace and security to the people of this region, but they are the main cause of insecurity, and this is clearly visible in many countries in the region.

Here, I would like to emphasize the role and support of the countries in the region for the stability and security of Iraq, and mention the realization of security with the participation of all Iraq’s neighbors, including the friendly and brotherly country of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The destiny of the government and the nations of this region are intertwined according to common religious, cultural, traditional, historical and geographical interests. The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized the achievement of peace through dialogue and negotiation within the region and hopes that the countries of the region will reach a common belief that security will be achieved through mutual trust, reliance on national capabilities, strengthening relations and good neighborliness. This common belief can pave the way for many political, economic and cultural cooperation in the region and guarantee the grounds for all-round growth and development of the countries of the region in the shadow of common and lasting security and by utilizing God-given wealth.

Our region has all the religious, cultural, civilizational characteristics and material and spiritual capacities for regional cooperation and convergence, but unfortunately, due to foreign interventions and the dominance of security-oriented ideas, it has many problems, including war, instability and insecurity.

What we need more than ever today is ‘sustainable regional security’ with the participation of the countries of the region, the realization of which depends on the use of economic resources to achieve the coalition for peace and development.

The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its support for the Iraqi government and people and its decisions in the field of internal affairs, including the withdrawal of foreign troops and the holding of early elections, and reiterates its constructive role in promoting a culture of dialogue and regional cooperation, and considers cooperation within the region as the basis for achieving stability and peace in this way. The Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing the important role of the countries in the region, declares its readiness to advance these goals.

Thanks again to the Iraqi government for hosting this summit, and I wish success and pride to the Iraqi people and government.

Iran Marks First Anniversary of Martyr Soleimani Assassination

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – A ceremony was held on Friday to mark the first anniversary of the martyrdom of Iranian commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was martyred in a U.S. drone strike in January 2020.

The ceremony was attended by IRGC Quds Force Commander Brigadier General Esmaeil Qa’ani and Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisi.

Addressing the ceremony, Hojjatoleslam Raiso said that the enemies wanted ISIS to rule in the region and disarm the resistance and introduce American Islam to the people instead of pure Islam and set the region on fire with sedition and conspiracy, adding that ISIS wanted to divert real Islam but they could not because Martyr Soleimani and the companions of the Quds Force, which created a huge capacity in the region, did not allow this.

“This is the awakening of the region from the pure blood of the martyrs. The martyrs who defended the shrine, whose blood was shed on the ground everywhere,” the senior cleric noted.

He added: “The enemy may place some puppets in power in the region, but the awakening cannot be eliminated. They may make sedition in one region, but eliminating ignorance cannot be ignored. Martyr Soleimani considers the Islamic Republic a sanctuary and believes that if this sanctuary remains, other sanctuaries will not be damaged, but if the sanctuary of the Islamic Republic is damaged, all sanctuaries will be damaged, so he for 40 years is defending the sanctuary that has been established with the name of the implementation of religion and religious teachings.”

The head of the judiciary stated that the ideology of resistance has disrupted the current of domination and arrogance. The resistance has done something that has made the enemy desperate. The assassination of Hajj Qassem is a sign of the desperation of the enemy, not a sign of its superior hand and the resistance has destroyed the think tank of infidelity and atheism.

Ayatollah Raisi stated that Gen. Soleimani generated power in the region and that the power that was created in the region should never be vanished, noting that he was looking for solitude to talk to Imam Reza and ask him for help. One of the characteristics and behavior of Gen. Soleimani was supplication, prayer, and divine conduct.

He added: “The creators of ISIS and al-Qaeda thought that the axis of resistance would weaken with the assassination of the hero of the fight against terrorism in the region and the world, but he received the message that the creators of ISIL could not undermine the resistance by assassinating our commanders and Martyr Soleimani. Today, more than ever, there is an insistence on the enemies in the people of the region, and the spirit of Gen. Soleimani has more than ever fueled and awakened the spirit of resistance in the people of the region.”

The head of the judiciary said: “There are signs of tough revenge, but the enemy must wait for tough revenge. They will see tough revenge, and what they have seen so far has been a manifestation of revenge. The Islamic Ummah itself will determine the time and place of revenge, but the enemy knows that life will be more difficult for him from now on, and the punishment of the masterminds and perpetrators of this crime will be manifestations of tough revenge.”

Hojjatoleslam Raisi noted: “The expulsion of the United States from the region will be the revenge of Hajj Qassem. Nobody assumes that someone in the guise of the U.S. president as a murderer has safety. All those who took part in this assassination will not be safe anywhere on this planet.”

Meanwhile Qa’ani warned that people inside the United States may retaliate the assassination of his predecessor General Soleimani.

Addressing the ceremony to mark the first anniversary of General Soleimani’s assassination, General Qa’ani said “it is possible that some people inside your home (the US) would respond to your crime.”

He said after what the U.S. did, they may find people all around the world who would be ready to take vengeance.

In his Friday remarks, General Qa’ani stressed that the U.S. mischievous acts in the region will not change the Resistance Front’s path.

Iraqi Security Arrests Senior ISIS Members in Baghdad

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi security forces arrested two senior members of the ISIS terror group in the capital Baghdad, according to Iraq’s Interior Ministry.

A ministry statement on Sunday said one of the militants was responsible for the terror group’s intelligence unit in the western city of Fallujah, Anadolu Agency reported.

It added that the two terrorists had confessed to taking part in carrying out attacks against security forces and civilians.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over ISIS by reclaiming all of its territories – about a third of the country’s area – invaded by the terrorist group in 2014. However, the terrorist group still maintains sleeper cells in large areas of Iraq and periodically launches attacks.

The Iraqi army and popular forces continue to carry out operations against the terrorist group.

Iraqi Forces Repel Major ISIS Attack on Diyala

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi forces thwarted a major attack by ISIS or ISIS terrorists on Diyala, northeast of Baqubah.

“ISIS terrorists attacked security points of the Iraqi army in Al-Islah and Sheikh Baba villages, with mortar shells and sniper weapons”, a military source told Shafaq news on condition of anonymity.

It added, “The army forces were unable to reach the terrorists due to their stationing in dense orchards”.

No causalities were reported.

The areas of the Sheikh Baba Basin have been witnessing security turmoil for more than a year, after Daesh terrorists fled from the liberated areas to the orchards and agricultural reeds.

In recent months, suspected Daesh militants have stepped up attacks, particularly in the area between Kirkuk, Salahuddin (north), and Diyala (east), known as the “Triangle of Death”.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh by reclaiming all of its territory – about a third of the country’s area – invaded by the terrorist group in 2014.

However, the terrorist group still maintains sleeper cells in some areas of Iraq and periodically launches attacks.

The Iraqi army and popular forces continue to carry out frequent operations against the terror group in these parts of the country.

Iraqi PMU Forces Kill 4 ISIS Ringleaders in Samarra

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi troops and fighters from Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) managed to kill four senior leaders of the ISIS terror group in northern areas of the Arab country.

According to Shafaq News, four of the “most important” leaders of ISIS were killed in a joint operation by Iraqi forces.

The report added that two of them were wearing explosive belts, in Samarra district, in northern Iraq.

In recent months, suspected ISIS militants have stepped up attacks, particularly in the area between Kirkuk, Salahuddin (north), and Diyala (east), known as the “Triangle of Death”.

Two Iraqi Soldiers Killed in Diyala Killed by ISIS

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A security source in Diyala said two Iraqi soldiers were killed in an ISIS terrorist attack on the outskirts of Al-Miqdadiyah district, 40 km northeast of Baqubah.

“Daesh terrorists attacked, last night, a security post belonging to the 74th Brigade of the Iraqi Army northwest of Al-Miqdadiyah”, the source told Shafaq News Agency on Tuesday.

Two soldiers were killed and one was wounded, while the terrorists fled, it added.

Diyala on Monday witnessed four attacks in the regions of Al-Sadiya, Al-Azim, Qarataba, the last of which was Al-Miqdadiyah.

The areas of northern Al-Miqdadiyah, in north-eastern Diyala, have been among the largest strongholds of the terrorist organizations over the past years, due to their geographical nature and the dense orchards that Daesh turned a large part of them into shelters and hideouts.

Iraq Denounces Turkish Aggression As Endangering Regional Stability

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraq’s National Security Council denounced a recent deadly drone strike by Turkey on the Arab country as a violation of good neighborly principles, saying the aggression poses a threat to Iraq’s national security as well as regional stability.

In a statement carried by al-Sumaria TV network on Wednesday, the council said it discussed the Turkish attack during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

It strongly condemned “the Turkish aggression on Iraqi lands and the targeting of Iraqi commanders.”

“This act is a major breach of all standards for dealings between countries, good neighborly relations, and a major threat to the Iraqi national security and the stability of the region,” it added. “Iraq will exercise all means to defend its security and protect its citizens, including diplomatic messages.”

The council also announced that the government had decided to cancel the visit of the Turkish defense minister and another Turkish delegation to Baghdad.

It further urged the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to coordinate with the international and Arab communities to condemn such an offensive and take necessary measures.

On Tuesday, a Turkish drone bombed a military vehicle of the Iraqi border guards in the Sidekan area of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

Two border guard commanders and their driver were killed in the raid, the army said in a statement, marking the first Iraqi troop deaths since Turkey launched the cross-border operation in mid-June against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants.

‘We won’t tolerate squandering Iraqi blood’

Major General Yahya Rasoul, the military spokesman for Kadhimi, said on Wednesday that the strike had killed two commanders and injured a third commander as well as an intelligence officer and two of their accompanying associates who were on a reconnaissance operation in Sidekan.

He called on the Turkish forces to work on “clarifying the circumstances of the crime and holding those involved in it accountable, in order to preserve good neighborliness and relations between the two countries.”

“We warned earlier about the continuation of Turkish violations on Iraqi lands, and the blood of Iraqis is precious, and we will not tolerate squandering Iraqi blood,” the spokesman noted.

‘Iraq should complain to UNSC’

Additionally, on Wednesday, the Iraqi Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee called on the Iraqi government to file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council over the deadly Turkish strike.

“While we support the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement related to these attacks, we affirm our demands that decisive measures should be taken to prevent any other attacks to preserve the sovereignty of Iraq,” it said.

Earlier in the day, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry stressed: “the need for the Turkish government to immediately stop the bombing and withdraw its aggressive forces from all Iraqi territories.”

It also canceled an official visit by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar to Baghdad and summoned Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz to hand him “a strong protest note and inform him of Iraq’s confirmed rejection of his country’s attacks and violations.”

Turkey remains defiant

Despite Iraqi condemnations and warnings, Turkey said Thursday that it will keep up cross-border military operations in northern Iraq if Baghdad continues to overlook the Kurdish militants’ presence in the region.

Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that it was Baghdad’s responsibility to take measures against the PKK, whose presence also threatens Iraq, adding, however, that Ankara will defend its borders.

Iraq Army Frustrates ISIS Operation in Kirkuk

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi army forces thwarted an ISIS terrorist operation in Kirkuk province during a large-scale operation.

The ISIS takfiri terrorists tried to take control of an area in Kirkuk province, Almasalah reported.

According to the report, the Takfiris attacked the Al-Riyadh area in Kirkuk for this purpose.

The attempt of the Takfiri terrorists failed with the intervention of the Iraqi army, and they did not succeed in achieving their goals in Kirkuk.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi army had previously repelled Takfiri attacks in Saladin and Diyala provinces.

The ISIS terrorist group has a number of cells in the northern, eastern and southern regions of Iraq and has intensified its attacks on Iraqi civilians and security forces in the past two months which has been unprecedented since 2017.

In recent months, Hashd al-Sha’abi forces and the Iraqi Army have carried out a series of operations against ISIL members in Al Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin governorates since the middle of last month.

ISIL Terrorists in Nineveh Arrested by Iraqi Army

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi Army has arrested some ISIL terrorists in Nineveh Governorate.

Iraqi security forces launched a new counter-terrorism operation in Nineveh, according to Baghdad Today.

During the operation, ISIL takfiri remnant bases in Mosul city in Nineveh Governorate were targeted by Iraqi Army.

They have managed to identify and arrest some ISIL terrorist forces.

In recent months, various areas of some Iraqi provinces have been the site of ISIL hideouts, and Hashd al-Sha’abi forces and Iraqi Army have carried out dozens of operations in the provinces.

Hashd al-Sha’abi forces have launched a series of operations against ISIL members in Al Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin governorates since the middle of last month.
