Iraqi Police Detains Five ISIS Terrorists in Nineveh

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi police forces in the northern province of Nineveh managed to arrest five senior members of the ISIS terror group, a report said.

According to the report carried by Shafaq News, Nineveh Governorate Police Commander Brigadier General Laith Khalil Al-Hamdani said in a statement om Saturday that five ISIS terrorists were arrested by the Directorate of Control Affairs of the Nineveh Police Command indicating after security checks on people and vehicles.

The Nineveh police statement clarified that they were arrested in al-Nasr, the Mosul-Baghdad road.

In recent months, suspected ISIS militants have stepped up attacks, particularly in the area between Kirkuk, Salahuddin (north), and Diyala (east), known as the “Triangle of ISIS”.

In 2017, Iraq declared victory over ISIS by reclaiming all of its territory – about a third of the country’s area – invaded by the terrorist group in 2014.

However, the terrorist group still maintains sleeper cells in some areas of Iraq and periodically launches attacks.

The Iraqi army and popular forces continue to carry out frequent operations against the terror group in these parts of the country.

PMU Razes ISIL Tunnels in Kirkuk

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd al-Sha’abi forces destroyed several tunnels belonging to ISIL elements in western Kirkuk.

Hashd al-Sha’abi forces are continuing their operations against the remaining elements of the ISIL terrorist organization in various parts of Iraq, according to Al Maalomah.

As part of its counter-terrorism operation, Hashd al-Sha’abi forces destroyed at least six tunnels belonging to ISIL terrorists in western Kirkuk.

Although the ISIL terrorist forces have been defeated in Iraq, the remaining elements of this organization carry out terrorist operations in different areas from time to time.

The Popular Mobilization Forces, along with the Iraqi security forces, are conducting counter-terrorism operations against ISIL forces in various parts of the country.

In recent months, various areas of some Iraqi provinces have been the site of ISIL hideouts, and Hashd al-Sha’abi forces have carried out dozens of operations in the provinces.

Hashd al-Sha’abi forces have launched a series of operations against ISIL members in Al Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin governorates since the middle of last month.

Iraq PMU Forces Hit ISIS Gatherings

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Fighters from Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) of Iraq, also known as Hashd al-Sha’abi, shelled the gatherings of the ISIS terror group in the northern province of Salahuddin.

The ISIS terrorists’ gatherings in the areas of al-Hamiza and Abu Raqabah were shelled by Iraq PMU troops late on Friday, the popular group said in a statement on Saturday, according to Iraq’s Baghdad al-Youm website.

The attacks claimed the lives of scores of the terrorists, it added.

On Tuesday, the PMU forces used mortar shells and artillery rounds to destroy an ISIS hideout near the Alas oilfields, located northeast of Tikrit, the provincial capital of Salahuddin province.

ISIS has intensified its attacks in Iraq amid Baghdad’s call on the US to pull out its forces from the Arab country.

In a vote on January 5, the Iraqi parliament called for an end to the presence of all foreign troops, including Americans.

The vote came two days after the US military – acting on US President Donald Trump’s order – launched a fatal drone strike on senior Iranian anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani upon his arrival in the Iraqi capital at the invitation of the Baghdad government.

The attack also claimed the lives of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of the PMU, and eight other Iranian and Iraqi people.

Washington has threatened sanctions should US troops be expelled instead of heeding the Iraqi parliament’s call to end the occupation of the country.

Iraq Kill over 13 ISIS Members in Salahuddin

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Warplanes of Iraq continued to bomb ISIS hideouts across Salahuddin, killing at least 13 terrorists in the northern province.

Commander of the operation, Lieutenant General Mohammad Jasem, said on Sunday that at least 13 ISIS militants were killed as Iraq military aircraft launched precision strikes against their hideouts across Salahuddin.

He added that dozens of the terrorists’ hideouts were also destroyed during the strikes.

In a separate development early on Monday, five Iraqi servicemen were killed and injured after Daesh militants targeted their military posts in the city of Baqubah in Diyala province.

Daesh has intensified its attacks in Iraq amid Baghdad’s call on the US to pull out its forces from the Arab country.
