According To Iran News, Head of Iran Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari said Sat. that the country has the domestic knowledge of manufacturing satellites in 9 months.

Referring to the launch of Zafar satellite into orbit in the upcoming days, he noted, “Currently, five Iranian teams of scientists and experts are working around the clock, conducting finals tests which have been successful so far.”

According to Barari, Iran has developed the capability of manufacturing domestic satellites in 9 months.

Zafar is a 90-kilogram remote-sensing satellite equipped with color cameras and can be used for surveying oil reserves, mines, jungles, and natural disasters. If the launch is successful, it will orbit the earth at an altitude of 530 kilometers.

Speaking to Mehr correspondent on Tuesday, Head of Iran Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari said the ISA has commenced plans for cooperation with what he called an ‘advanced country’ to send an astronaut to space.

“The talks are underway, and we hope to reach an agreement with one of the countries to commence the project.”

Barari declined to name the country with which the ISA is in talks about the project before the talks have been finalized.

“With the cooperation of this country, we are aiming to send a scientist-astronaut instead of a space tourist. Our goal is to participate in international projects; that is, to have an Iranian scientist present in the Earth’s orbit or a space station to take part in international research projects,” he added.

“The process of talks must be carried out fully. Once done, we will announce the schedule for the implementation of the project in the near future,” he said.

Earlier, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Majid Takht-Ravanchi refuted some European countries’ claims about Iran’s missile program highlighting that Tehran is determined to boost its missile and space programs.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari said that his country is poised to launch 3 satellites in upcoming years, adding that Iran’s space program will propel the country’s economy into a new stage.

“Following the implementation of the country’s second decade-long space development program, three satellites are being developed to be ultimately put into orbit,” Barari, who is also Iran’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology, said on Sunday, noting that that the development of space technology in Iran could lead to “major” developments in the country’s economy.

“The second decade-long space development program was initiated in 2016 and will continue until 2025 with the development of space-related infrastructures,” he added.

The ISA chief stressed that no country had assisted Iran in the development of satellites launched by the country so far, adding that the Islamic Republic’s top universities had instead made good strategic and long-term investments in the field.

Iran’s indigenous satellite launch capabilities first made headlines when the first locally-built satellite, Omid (Hope), was launched in 2009.

The country also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into space in February 2010, using a Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

Speaking on Sunday, Barari explained that the newly emerging economic field related to space technologies had grown 139 percent during the time span of a decade and therefore represented an economic opportunity.

Further elaborating on the economic benefits of advanced space technology, the Iranian space chief explained that satellite images could help increase efficiency in managing Iran’s environmental and agricultural sectors.

Data gathered from the satellites could also have a major role in avoiding and managing natural disasters, he said.

The Iranian space chief added that pre-existing satellite information greatly contributed to managing and reducing damages inflicted from major floods earlier this year.

“With new satellite data, this can be done much better,” he said.

Early in September, Barari had stressed that the US sanctions against Iran’s space centers and activities will not leave any impacts on their development.

“Iran’s space program initiatives are completely peaceful and sanctions will have no effect on the development of these plans,” Barari said.

He underlined that Iran’s space activities are fully peaceful, and the membership of the Agency in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and the position of the country in international communities is solid evidence of this.

A week earlier, Iranian Communication and IT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, in a post on his Twitter page, mocked Washington’s recent sanctions on Tehran’s space program, saying space is too vast to be controlled by US President Donald Trump.

“I can’t even locate the US in this picture, let alone sanctions on Space! The universe and the Bright Future belong to everyone, not to a few! Stop imitating Thanos, Donald Trump!” Azari Jahromi tweeted along with a mesmerizing photo of outer space.

A meeting was held in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss the cooperation between Iranian universities and the space industry, Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Director Morteza Barari stressed the important roles that universities can play in the development of the space industry in the country.

Referring to the current projects of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) with a number of top universities in the country, Barari said “universities play a significant role in the development of space technology, and now the Iranian Space Agency is seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation.”

He said that over the past few months, 3 projects have been signed with 3 universities in the country and they are working on a Small Student Satellite project (SSS project) in cooperation with The Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) and a CubeSat project, in collaboration with 3 domestic universities.

He said that the ISA has held conferences, workshops and specialized panels in the field of marketing space products and businesses in cooperation with the country’s top universities.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the ISA director addressed some of the country’s challenges in the field of water resources management, natural disaster management such as drought and dust storms, saying that 90% of natural disasters are originated in the air, and only 10% of them, including earthquakes, landslides and volcanic eruptions are land caused by terrestrial factors.

According to Barari, climate research and radar satellites play an important role in monitoring and managing the natural disasters, stressing that joint projects in cooperation with domestic need to be based on domestic technological capabilities and focus on resolving the challenges facing the country.

He further said that manufacturing a satellite involves 40 different technologies and requires cooperation with different industries and universities.
