Annual iron ore concentrate output touches 50m tons

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Production of iron ore concentrate in Iran during the previous Iranian calendar year 1399 (ended on March 20) reached 49.714 million tons, registering a five-percent rise compared to the preceding year.

According to the Industry, Mining and Trade Ministry data, of the mentioned figure 3.533 million tons were produced in the last month of the previous year (February 19-March 20).

As reported, the country’s major iron ore concentrate producers had managed to produce about 47.306 million tons of the mentioned product in the Iranian calendar year 1398.

Last year, major mining companies also produced 902,454 tons of granulated iron ore, to register a decrease of 54 percent compared to the preceding year (1,965,733 tons).

Iran had produced 24.6 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first half of the previous Iranian calendar year (March 20-September 21, 2020), which was also four percent higher than the figure of the same period of time in the preceding year.

Also, the monthly iron ore concentrate output during the sixth month of that year had risen six percent on an annual basis.

In its outlook plan for the Iranian calendar year 1404 (2025-2026) Iran has envisaged production of 55 million tons of steel per annum, and to achieve this target the country requires to extract 160 million tons of iron ore.

In a bid to prevent the exports of unprocessed minerals, creating more value-added and meeting the requirements of domestic producers for the raw materials, Iran has levied a 25-percent duty on the exports of raw minerals since September 2019.

The duty is aimed at encouraging the production of more processed minerals such as pellets and concentrate instead of selling the raw minerals.

Iron ore concentrate output tops 39m tons in 10 months

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran produced 39.341 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2019–January 20, 2020), marking a three-percent rise compared to the same period last year.

According to statistics released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), the country’s major mineral production companies managed to produce 38.162 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the previous year’s same time period, reported imidro.gov.ir.

According to the IMIDRO report, in the mentioned 10 months, 22.512 million tons of iron ore conglomerate were produced, showing a two-percent decline as compared to last year’s corresponding period.

Based on IMIDRO’s data, 3.459 million tons of granulated iron ore was also produced in the first 10 months of the current year to register a 39-percent decline as compared to last year’s 10-month period.

As previously announced, Iran’s export of iron ore concentrate rose 96.6 percent during the past Iranian year, compared to its preceding year.

The country exported 5.552 million tons of the product worth $398 million in the past year.

Iron ore concentrate output exceeds 19m tons in 5 months

As reported, the data regarding the output of major mineral production companies released in the first five months of the current year indicated that in the same period, 17,640,479 tons of iron ore conglomerate was produced, showing one percent decline as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

According to the statistics, 2.22 million tons of granulated iron ore was also produced in the first five months of the current year, showing a four-percent decline as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

Production of iron ore concentrate in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 – July 21) was reported to be 15.903 million tons, three percent less than the figure for the same period last year.

Iran’s export of iron ore concentrate rose 96.6 percent during the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), compared to the preceding year.

The country exported 5.552 million tons of the product worth $398 million during the mentioned period.
