Iraq establishes crisis desk to review deal with US

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Newly-elected Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi says his cabinet has established a crisis desk to review the strategic agreement with the US on protecting the unity and sovereignty of Iraq.

Following his first Cabinet meeting, al-Kadhimi told reporters the group in Iraq established a crisis desk consisting of foreign affairs experts.

Iraq and the US signed the Strategic Framework Agreement in 2008 based on mutual cooperation between the two countries.

However, the country has been the scene of some terrorist activities lately by the US-sponsored takfiri groups.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group launched several attacks across Iraq earlier this month, killing a number of Iraqi fighters.

The resistance movements have warned that the deadly attacks were part of a US plot to bring the terrorists back to the country.

Draft of possible sanctions on Iraq

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Reports suggest that the US Administration has issued a draft of possible sanctions against Iraq to the Iraqi President Barham Salih.

The draft aims to clarify the consequences of possible sanctions for the Iraq government, a source told Skynews.

US President Donald Trump has threatened Iraq with imposing ‘very big sanctions’ if the Iraqi parliament follows through its nonbinding resolution to oust American forces from its soil.

“We will charge them sanctions as they’ve never seen before, ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame,” Trump tweeted.

The Iraqi official told the ambassador that Iraq is doing everything it can to prevent a descent into open war after the US assassinated Iranian commander Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike.

In an extraordinary session on Sunday, the Iraqi parliament voted for a resolution requiring the government to order the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

The Parliament’s decision comes as US terrorist forces assassinated Iran’s Gen. Soleimani and Iraq’s deputy MPU al-Muhandis on Friday airstrikes at the order of Trump himself.

In a Monday meeting, Iraq’s prime minister announced and delivered his country’s Parliament plan for ending US troops presence in Iraq to the American ambassador in Baghdad Matthew H. Tueller.

Earlier, he official spokesman of al-Nujaba Islamic Resistance said that the movement is ready for military measures against US forces in Iraq.

US hegemony over Iraq oil opposed by Soleimani view

TEHRAN (Iran News) – An Iranian international energy expert says the United States killed a senior Iranian commander in Iraq because he had constantly opposed US hegemony over oil wells in Iraq and in the wider region.

Mahmoud Khaghani told Iran’s ILNA news agency on Saturday that the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds force, in US strike in Iraq on Friday was not only because of his unique military capabilities which had posed numerous threats to the US.

Khaghani said the assassination also came because Soleimani had opposed plans by the US hegemony and its regional proxy Saudi Arabia to fully control oil production in Iraq.

“General Soleimani’s efforts for dismantling US and Saudi objectives in Iraq had seriously worried these two countries,” said Khaghani, adding that US President Donald Trump has repeatedly asserted over the past years that he wants a full domination over the global energy market.

He added that Soleimani had always sought to help the regional countries, especially Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, free themselves from the hegemony of the US and other powers.

The expert said Trump thought he could restore his control over Iraq, a leading oil producer in the world, through omitting Soleimani and pursuing a series of other sabotage activities in the Arab country.

Khaghani said Iran should now act to keep Soleimani’s strategic aspirations alive by establishing its role as the sole guarantor of the security of the energy supply throughout the region.

“Iran must devise a strategic plan based on its geopolitical position (in the region located) between the Caspian Sea, Central Asia, and the Persian Gulf while it should pursue the security program for the Strait of Hormuz,” said the expert while referring to a key waterway in the Persian Gulf which accommodates a third of global seaborne oil trade.
