Rouhani voices full support for new Iraqi government

TEHRAN (Iran News) – In a telephone conversation with the new Iraqi PM Mustafa al-Kazemi on Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced Iran’s full support for his government.

Congratulating al-Kazemi on his approval as the new Iraqi PM, Rouhani said Iran pays specific attention and support to Iraq’s independence, political stability, national sovereignty, and unity.

He hoped for the expansion of Iran-Iraq cooperation in the future.

Rouhain warned that the two sides should be aware of those who plan conspiracy plots against the interest of Iranian and Iraq nations.

He noted that Iran has previously proved its support for Iraq in the fight against the ISIL and will remain beside Iraqi as before in the future.

Rouhani also expressed Iran’s tendency for protecting Iraq under the Covid-19 pandemic via delivering anti-coronavirus medical products.

Al-Kazemi, for his part, expressed gratitude for Iran’s support in the said areas and called for the development of ties in the future, as well as reopening of joint borders and trade of goods between the two countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani forwarded a message of felicitation to the newly-elected Iraq Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi, calling for the cooperation of two countries in all fields.

In an official message, forwarded on Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Mustafa al-Kazemi for being elected as Iraq’ Prime Minister.

“I wish that the relations between Iran and Iraq will be further enhanced and strengthened in the interests of the two nations and in the various political, economic, and cultural spheres,” President Rouhani said in his message.

The Iranian president also wished Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi health and success and Iraq’s nation felicity and prosperity.

Iraq establishes crisis desk to review deal with US

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Newly-elected Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi says his cabinet has established a crisis desk to review the strategic agreement with the US on protecting the unity and sovereignty of Iraq.

Following his first Cabinet meeting, al-Kadhimi told reporters the group in Iraq established a crisis desk consisting of foreign affairs experts.

Iraq and the US signed the Strategic Framework Agreement in 2008 based on mutual cooperation between the two countries.

However, the country has been the scene of some terrorist activities lately by the US-sponsored takfiri groups.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group launched several attacks across Iraq earlier this month, killing a number of Iraqi fighters.

The resistance movements have warned that the deadly attacks were part of a US plot to bring the terrorists back to the country.

Iran welcomes Iraq New Prime Minister

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Foreign Ministry of Iran has felicitated Iraq on the nomination of a new prime minister-designate, calling the move a step in the right direction.

Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi explained Tehran’s stance on Thursday after President Barham Salih named Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the director of Iraq’s National Intelligence Service, as the new prime minister-designate and tasked him with forming a new government in a month.

“The Islamic Republic has invariably supported independence, national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political stability in Iraq, and considers the formation of consensus among all of its political movements through democratic pathways to be the only peaceful solution for all differences,” Press TV quoted Mousavi as saying.

Iran, therefore, perceives the current consensus that has led to Kadhimi’s appointment to be “a right step in the right direction,” he said.

Tehran wishes Kadhimi success in fulfilling his duty to form a new government that would meet the demands of the Iraqi people and religious sources of emulation, and would award the country stability and integrity as well as its deserved standing as a state of importance on the regional and international stages, the spokesman added.

Kadhimi was tapped as the new premier after predecessor Adnan al-Zurfi announced he was withdrawing his bid.

Iraq has been without a government since last November when former prime minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi resigned amid protests against corruption and misuse of the country’s resources.

Mousavi said Tehran, as before, declares its readiness to cooperate with Baghdad in its efforts to put standing problems behind it and realize it’s public and religious authorities’ requests.

Iraq’s sovereignty a red line

The newly-designated prime minister said that the success of Iraq’s international relations will be based on “respect and cooperation.”

“The country’s national sovereignty is the top priority,” Kadhimi said, according to a report by Al Sumaria News.

Kadhimi stressed that his government will never allow anyone to insult any Iraqi citizen by accusing him/her of being linked to foreigners.

He also vowed that the cabinet that he is to form will be at the frontline of defending Iraqis and fighting against the novel coronavirus.
