Iraq Says Two High-Ranking Commanders Killed by Turkish Drone

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iraq army said two senior security officials have been killed in a “blatant Turkish drone attack” in the country’s north, where Ankara has for weeks been raiding positions of PKK militants.

The drone targeted a vehicle belonging to the Iraqi border guards in the Bradost area, north of Erbil, the military said in a statement on Tuesday, Al Jazeera reported.

The strike caused the deaths of the two border guard battalion commanders and the vehicle’s driver.

There was no immediate statement by Turkey.

The deaths announced by the military marked the first time members of the regular Iraqi forces have been killed since Turkey launched a cross-border ground and air operation in mid-June against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the mountainous terrain of northern Iraq.

Iraq has already summoned the Turkish envoy in Baghdad twice in protest at Ankara’s operations on its soil.

Turkey has defended its operations in northern Iraq, saying neither the central government in Baghdad nor the regional Iraqi Kurdish administration have acted to remove PKK miltiants who use Iraq’s territory to stage attacks on Turkey.

Iraq Army Frustrates ISIS Operation in Kirkuk

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi army forces thwarted an ISIS terrorist operation in Kirkuk province during a large-scale operation.

The ISIS takfiri terrorists tried to take control of an area in Kirkuk province, Almasalah reported.

According to the report, the Takfiris attacked the Al-Riyadh area in Kirkuk for this purpose.

The attempt of the Takfiri terrorists failed with the intervention of the Iraqi army, and they did not succeed in achieving their goals in Kirkuk.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi army had previously repelled Takfiri attacks in Saladin and Diyala provinces.

The ISIS terrorist group has a number of cells in the northern, eastern and southern regions of Iraq and has intensified its attacks on Iraqi civilians and security forces in the past two months which has been unprecedented since 2017.

In recent months, Hashd al-Sha’abi forces and the Iraqi Army have carried out a series of operations against ISIL members in Al Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin governorates since the middle of last month.

ISIL Terrorists in Nineveh Arrested by Iraqi Army

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi Army has arrested some ISIL terrorists in Nineveh Governorate.

Iraqi security forces launched a new counter-terrorism operation in Nineveh, according to Baghdad Today.

During the operation, ISIL takfiri remnant bases in Mosul city in Nineveh Governorate were targeted by Iraqi Army.

They have managed to identify and arrest some ISIL terrorist forces.

In recent months, various areas of some Iraqi provinces have been the site of ISIL hideouts, and Hashd al-Sha’abi forces and Iraqi Army have carried out dozens of operations in the provinces.

Hashd al-Sha’abi forces have launched a series of operations against ISIL members in Al Anbar, Nineveh, Saladin governorates since the middle of last month.

Iraq Army Dismantle ISIS Suicide Unit in Operation near Baghdad

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Five ISIS suicide bombers and two security members were killed during the Iraqi forces’ raid against a hideout of the terror group near the Arab country’s capital of Baghdad, according to the Iraqi military.

The ISIS terrorists, who were found to be part of a suicide unit, were killed after being surrounded by Iraqi forces during an operation carried out in a village in the southwest of Baghdad, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement on Sunday.

The operation was launched based on intelligence reports received by the Iraqi military and was supported by drones, the statement said, without giving further details about when exactly the raid occurred, Press TV reported.

The Iraqi forces managed to kill four suicide bombers, while the fifth one blew himself up, killing an officer and a soldier from the army and intelligence.

The raid came as the Takfiri group’s terrorists have intensified their attacks on security forces, including the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and civilians in the formerly Daesh-controlled provinces, resulting in the killing and wounding of dozens.

The security situation in Iraq has been improving since the country’s security forces fully defeated the Daesh militants across the country late in 2017.

However, the terror group’s remnants have since melted in urban areas or deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.

In one of the most recent atrocities attributed to Daesh, a leading Iraqi security analyst, and government advisor was shot dead outside his home in the capital Baghdad, sparking public anger and a wave of condemnations from the country’s senior officials.

Hashd al-Sha’abi launch operation against ISIL

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Hashd al-Sha’abi and the Iraqi Army launched a large-scale operation on Monday to identify and destroy ISIL terrorist elements near the Syrian border.

The joint military operation has been launched to eliminate the remnants of the ISIL terrorist group in the depths of the Nineveh Desert.

The Iraqi-Syrian border will be cleared of ISIL with the participation of the Ansar al-Marja’iya Brigade, Hashd al-Sha’abi, the West Nineveh, and the Salah al-Din Operations Command and the Iraqi army.

The Iraqi Air Force and Engineering branch will also support the operation. In recent months, attacks by the ISIL terrorist group have increased, especially in the area between Kirkuk, Saladin (north), and Diyala (east), known as the “Death Triangle.”

In 2017 and after three years, Iraq regained control of its entire territory and declared victory over ISIL.

Despite this defeat, the ISIL terrorist group still has a number of cells in the northern, eastern and southern regions of Iraq and has intensified its attacks on Iraqi civilians and security forces in the past two months which has been unprecedented since 2017. Hashd al-Sha’abi forces and the Iraqi Army have carried out more than 60 military operations against terrorists during this period.

Iraqi Troops Repel ISIS Attacks in Kirkuk, Diyala

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iraqi troops and fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) repelled two major attacks by ISIS terrorists in the provinces of Kirkuk and Diyala.

According to reports by Iraqi media and security sources, members of the ISIS terror group on Sunday launched an attack on the district of Molla Abdollah in southern Kirkuk but were pushed back by Iraqi troops.

The sources added that a member of Iraq’s Federal Police was killed in the process of the counterattack.

A number of the terrorists were also killed and dozens of them fled the battlefield, the reports added.

The Iraqi troops also managed to thwart an attack by the Takfiri group against rural areas near the town of Jalawla in Diyala province.

Daesh has intensified its attacks in Iraq amid Baghdad’s call on the US to pull out its forces from the Arab country.

In a vote on January 5, the Iraqi parliament called for an end to the presence of all foreign troops, including Americans.

The vote came two days after the US military – acting on US President Donald Trump’s order – launched a fatal drone strike on senior Iranian anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani upon his arrival in the Iraqi capital at the invitation of the Baghdad government.

The attack also claimed the lives of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s PMU or Hashd al-Sha’abi, along with eight other Iranian and Iraqi people.

Washington has threatened sanctions should US troops be expelled instead of heeding the Iraqi parliament’s call to end the occupation of the country.
