Iran’s armed forces have ‘excellent’ capabilities: Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff

TEHRAN (Iran News) Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, has emphasized the high level of capabilities and preparedness of Iran’s armed forces, describing their strength as “excellent”.

Speaking at a ceremony on Friday in Tehran commemorating Brigadier General Mohammad-Saeed Izadi, the head of the Palestine Department at the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (I.R.G.C.), Mousavi said that Izadi had always stood with Palestine and fought against the Israeli regime.

Senior military and political officials, including Commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani, and Minister of Intelligence Esmail Khatib, also attended the ceremony honoring Brigadier General Izadi, who was recently assassinated by the Israeli regime.

The event was held to commemorate Izadi’s lasting contributions to the resistance movement against the Israeli occupation.

Iran marks Sacred Defense Week with massive military parades

The parades, which began in Tehran and 30 other cities across the country on Sunday morning, feature military units from various divisions of the Armed Forces, including the Army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as well as the Police Force.

The parades in Tehran are being held before President Hassan Rouhani and military top brass, including Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Chief Commander of IRGC Major General Hossein Salami, and Army commander Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim.

IRGC is in charge of staging the parades in Tehran and capitals of other provinces, while the Army is in charge of the parades in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran.

According to the announcement by military commanders, the Tehran parades will include, in addition to infantry units march, the showcasing of a number of military equipment and aerial maneuvers by military planes and helicopters.

The homegrown Kosar fighter jet will also take part at the parades toady, according to commander of Army Air Force Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh.

The newly-developed twin-engine military fighter made its airshow debut over Tehran back in April. Kosar, equipped with the fourth generation of avionics systems, is capable of carrying various weapons and is used for short aerial support missions.

The domestically-built air defense missile system ‘Bavar-373’ was also showcased during the parades in Tehran. Bavar-373 is a mobile surface-to-air missile system. It uses a long-range, phased-array fire control radar, dubbed Meraj 4, which can detect 300 air targets simultaneously.

Iran refutes claims of participation in Turkey’s operation against PKK

“Turkey commenced a military operation against PKK on Monday morning in which Iran’s armed forces had no participation,” the informed source said.

The comment came after the Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency quoted Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu as saying that Turkey started carrying out a joint operation with Iran against the PKK on its eastern border on Monday morning.

Iran’s overhauled fighters used against terrorists in Iraq: chief of staff

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces, said some Sukhoi fighter jets overhauled by Iranian experts were used in Iraq to combat terrorism.

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri made the remark in a national conference on Tuesday.

“Some of our aircraft, including Sukhoi Su-22 and Su-25, were overhauled [by Iranian experts], and used by our brothers in Iraq to combat terrorism,” he said.

Bagheri maintained that the United States has made a multi-billion investment in its armed forces, and even that has no solid plan; “they squandered 7,000 billion dollars in West Asia, and their current president finds all those expenses a total waste,” he added.

“Saudi Arabia, the Zionist regime, and some other countries spend hundreds of millions of dollars on their armed forces, and their only objective is to oppose Islam,” he noted.

“Iran’s 7 or 8 billion dollars expenditure on its armed forces is by no means comparable to those other countries’ expenses,” Bagheri said.

The chief of staff further maintained that Iran produces over 90% of its required equipment, and over 500 domestically-manufactured products are currently on display at a defense equipment exhibition.

Iran needs no permission to boost defense power

The spokesman of the Iranian Armed Forces said that Iran seeks nobody’s permission to boost its defense capability.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran manufactures any required equipment to defend the country and will not ask for anybody’s permission in this regard,” Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi told IRNA on Sunday.

He went on to say that Iran has reached self-sufficiency in its defense sector and continues to play its role as a powerful country in both regional and global spheres.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military power poses no threat to other countries and is based on its military doctrine of deterrence.

“We are announcing to the whole world that Iran’s message is not war and bloodshed but peace and friendship,” highlighted the senior military official.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense equipment, capabilities and power are developed for deterrence; [However,] if any ignorant country seeks aggression against this land, it will be given such a strong response that it will regret what it has done,” he added.

Iran is a defender of nations and countries and it is not like the United States which seeks aggression against others, Shekarchi noted.

Iran Armed Forces opens major military exhibition

A major exhibition showcasing the latest defense achievements of the Iranian Armed Forces has opened at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, with over 560 military equipment on display.

The exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Armed Forces and under the supervision of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, opened on Wednesday at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla in the presence of Major General Mohammad Bagheri.

Over 560 domestically-developed military equipment, including various types of drones, missiles, bombs, armored and airborne equipment, weapons, helicopters, marine equipment as well as equipment to fight chemical and electronic warfare, have been put on public display.

Notable among the products unveiled at the exhibition are Iranian drones ‘Kaman 12’ and ‘Shahed-171’, as well as ‘Akhgar’ missile, and ‘Shahin’ drone disruptor.

The exhibition will receive visitors from January 30th to February 11th.

Iran may switch to ‘offensive’ to protect national interests

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces, said Sun. that Iran may switch from its defensive policy to ‘offensive’ tactics if its national interests come under threat.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces, said Iran has no intention of attacking any country, stressing that “our defense strategy is to protect the independence, territorial integrity and national interests of our country.”

Bagheri noted that the country’s defense policy does not mean a purely defensive and passive approach during tactical operations, adding “while it is true that we have no interest in other country’s interests and territory, we may switch to an offensive approach to protect our own interests.”

He went on to add, “if there is any intention of attack against our interests, and we see evidence of it, we will not remain passive and allow the country’s security and peace to be endangered.”

“That is why our military drills this year in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, or even on land or in the air, have had a change in their nature, and we will continue this trend until our armed forces are fully ready to make the switch in tactics if necessary,” he added.

Iran chief cmdr scoffs at US ‘humiliating’ exit from Syria

Speaking to reporters in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Sunday, Bagheri said US president’s decision to withdraw forces from Syria was of no significance for defensive and security missions in the region.

He underlined that the presence of US forces in Syria was without the consent of Syrian people and government and hence illegal.

US forces create insecurity wherever they go and their retreat from Syria will certainly lead to strengthening regional security, Bagheri maintained.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he went on to say that regional states can also ensure the security of the Persian Gulf and that US presence here has no positive security results.

The commander also noted that he will visit different Armed Forces units of Hormozgan province during his trip, adding, “Armed Forces of Hormozgan should do their best in major defense operations because of being near the Persian Gulf and Hormuz Strait.”
