TEHRAN (Iran News) – IRGC Unveils Homegrown COVID-19 Vaccine “Noora”. The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps of Iran says the time has come for the U.S. to get coronavirus vaccines from Iran.

Major General Hossein Salami made the comment as the IRGC began the first phase of the clinical trial of its Noora vaccine.

“I think now it is time for us to tell the Americans that we will give you vaccines. If you face any shortage we are ready to help you,” Salami said.

“This will happen in all areas. I promise the Americans and I promise the Iranians, too.

Everything they sanctioned to prevent us from accessing it, rest assured we will achieve it.

But we are ready to share those advancements with all of them. They should rest assured that the Iranian nation will stop at no advancement. We will never stop making new steps.

I give this promise to the entire Iranian nation that the fruit of all these difficulties is the great progress they see we’re making and these advancements will continue.”

The U.S. re-imposed punishing anti-Iran sanctions, removed under the 2015 nuclear deal, back in 2018. Washington has refrained from easing the portion of the sanctions that prevent Iran from accessing the international banking system amid the coronavirus pandemic. The sanctions have made it almost impossible for Iran to buy coronavirus vaccines and medical equipment needed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In response, Iran has developed its own vaccines. These include the Noora jab, which was unveiled by Baghiyyatollah Medical University of the IRGC on Sunday.

Meanwhile Salami yesterday hailed Iran’s achievements in different fields, saying the country is in possession of drones that have a range of 7,000 kilometers.

He said Iran has decided to be among the best in all fields, from science to technology and today it is among the pioneer and leading countries in many fields.

“By the grace of God, we launch satellites now; we are a pioneer in nanotechnology; we have large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that travel 7,000 kilometers…. We are a pioneer not only in military technologies but in many other fields,” he said.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great progress in indigenously developing and manufacturing a broad range of equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in this regard.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the Islamic Republic will not hesitate to build up its defense capabilities, emphasizing that such abilities are entirely meant for the purpose of defense and will be never subject to negotiations.

The IRGC chief praised Iranian medical personnel for successfully fighting the deadly coronavirus outbreak despite an economic terrorism campaign launched by the self-proclaimed advocates of democracy against Iran.

“A nation that has been able to create such great honors at the height of the scientific, technical, economic and financial siege is certainly a marvelous and exceptional nation,” he said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian vaccine 6 times more effective than AstraZeneca against mutated virus. The Pastu Covac vaccine has shown a 62 percent efficiency on new variants of coronavirus first emerged in South Africa and Brazil, 6 times more effective than the AstraZeneca vaccine, Health Minister Saeed Namaki announced on Monday.

The British AstraZeneca vaccine is 11 percent effective against new mutants of coronavirus identified in South Africa and Brazil, he added.

The Iranian Sputnik vaccine will be unveiled on Saturday in the presence of the Iranian ambassador to Russia, he noted, ISNA reported.

The Razi Cov Pars vaccine has passed the first phase of the human trial and its second phase is close to completion, Namaki said, adding, Cinnagen vaccine has completed the second phase of the clinical trial; however, we are supporting several platforms at the same time.

Developed by Cuba’s Finlay Vaccine Institute and Pasteur Institute of Iran, Pastu Covac vaccine is a conjugate vaccine with two injectable doses. It consists of the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein conjugated chemically to tetanus toxoid.

The two first phases of the human trial have been conducted in Cuba, while the third phase is underway with 24,000 volunteers in Iran and 44,000 volunteers in Cuba.

In Iran, it was performed on a population of 18 to 80 years in seven provinces and eight cities across the country.

Mass vaccination

Mass vaccination against COVID-19 started on Iranian citizens with the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine on February 9.

While Iran continues efforts to mass-produce local candidates, several foreign vaccines have already been imported and others are expected soon.

Iran is also producing vaccines jointly with three countries of Cuba, Russia, and Australia, which may also be released by September.

Homegrown vaccines

COVIRAN BAREKAT, the first coronavirus vaccine made by researchers at the Headquarters for Executing the Order of the Imam, which has received the license for public use on June 14.

The vaccine was unveiled on December 29, 2020, and started to be mass-produced on March 29.

Razi Cov Pars, developed by the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, is the second Iranian-made vaccine that started the clinical trial on February 27.

The mass production will start with a capacity of 1 million doses per month, after the third phase of the clinical study with at least 20,000 volunteers.

Iran has also successfully completed the first phase of the human trial for Fakhra vaccine, the third domestically developed COVID-19 vaccine, named after nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh (he was assassinated in November 2020 near Tehran), that was unveiled and started the clinical trial on March 16.

The second phase of Fakhra vaccine’s human trial started on June 9 by being injected into 500 volunteers

“Osvid-19”, the fourth domestic vaccine produced by Osvah Pharmaceutical Company is also undergoing human trials, which will also be available in early September.

On May 24, the first coronavirus vaccine made by the private sector in Iran succeeded in receiving the code of ethics and entered the phase of clinical studies.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A number of vaccines developed in Iran for the novel coronavirus have successfully passed the human trial and are ready for a clinical trial, Minister of Health Saeed Namaki said on Wednesday.

Namaki told reporters that in three or four cases, a collaboration of a number of the Iranian knowledge-based companies such as the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, and Pasteur Institute of Iran, has resulted in the development of homegrown vaccines which passed human trial phase.

“We will soon begin the clinical assessment,” the minister added, Tasnim reported.

Namaki also noted that in addition to domestic efforts to develop the coronavirus vaccine, Iran has applied for the purchase of vaccines by signing up in a forum set up by the World Health Organization.

In late July, Namaki said he had good news about the homegrown vaccine for the coronavirus disease, adding that Iran is catching up with advanced countries in vaccine production.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday his country has become the first country to approve a vaccine offering “sustainable immunity” against the coronavirus. Meanwhile, scientists in the West have raised concerns about the speed of development of Russian vaccines, suggesting researchers might be cutting corners after coming under pressure from authorities to deliver.

The World Health Organization last week urged Russia to follow established guidelines and go “through all the stages” necessary to develop a safe vaccine.

In comments at an online ministerial meeting of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region on Wednesday, Saeed Namaki said Iran has achieved remarkable success in producing the coronavirus vaccine.

“(The Iranian vaccine) passed the initial tests and (we) hope to reach promising stages for battling COVID-19,” the official added.

He also highlighted Iran’s success in synthesizing the medicine for the treatment of the coronavirus despite the pressure of cruel sanctions, saying two local pharmaceutical companies are going to supply hospitals across the country with Remdesivir, an antiviral drug used for the treatment of COVID-19.

Namaki also expressed Iran’s readiness for cooperation with regional nations in the fight against COVID-19, saying Tehran has repeatedly informed the friends, neighbors, and regional states that it is prepared to share experiences in containing the coronavirus pandemic.

In April, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani ordered the Health Ministry and the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology to focus efforts on the development of a vaccine for the novel coronavirus.

Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Satatri says local researchers in knowledge-based companies have been working on the most complicated pharmaceutical products to prevent and cure the novel coronavirus.
