The ceremony was attended by the Deputy ICT Minister and Head of Iranian Space Agency Morteza Barari, as well as, deputies and senior directors of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (ICT). Head of Iranian Space Agency emphasized the development of space technology and acceleration of pertinent activities and added, “Despite all restrictions and limitations caused by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, this giant project finished according to the scheduled programs.”

Deputy ICT minister termed empowering network for designing and manufacturing satellite as one of the main strategies in space projects and added, “Continuation of cooperation for designing and manufacturing satellites is the main objective of the Agency and for this purpose, we try to take advantage of existing technical know-how and knowledge created for the development of space technology and prosperity of space industry of the country.”

Using all scientific and economic capabilities of the country for the development of native space technology is the other priority of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA), he said, adding, “We will take advantage of national capacities and capabilities for the development of space industry of the country.”

Terming “Pars 1” remote-sensing satellite as one of the most advanced and sophisticated domestically-produced satellites in the country, he said “Expert engineers faced many problems and bottlenecks in manufacturing “Pars 1” satellite so that we managed to localize these technologies with the help of creative and talented Iranian engineers.”

Head of Iranian Space Agency seized this opportunity to express his thanks to all officials and engineers who cooperated with the Iranian Space Research Center and Iranian Space Agency in manufacturing “Pars 1” remote-sensing satellite.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari said that his country is poised to launch 3 satellites in upcoming years, adding that Iran’s space program will propel the country’s economy into a new stage.

“Following the implementation of the country’s second decade-long space development program, three satellites are being developed to be ultimately put into orbit,” Barari, who is also Iran’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology, said on Sunday, noting that that the development of space technology in Iran could lead to “major” developments in the country’s economy.

“The second decade-long space development program was initiated in 2016 and will continue until 2025 with the development of space-related infrastructures,” he added.

The ISA chief stressed that no country had assisted Iran in the development of satellites launched by the country so far, adding that the Islamic Republic’s top universities had instead made good strategic and long-term investments in the field.

Iran’s indigenous satellite launch capabilities first made headlines when the first locally-built satellite, Omid (Hope), was launched in 2009.

The country also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into space in February 2010, using a Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

Speaking on Sunday, Barari explained that the newly emerging economic field related to space technologies had grown 139 percent during the time span of a decade and therefore represented an economic opportunity.

Further elaborating on the economic benefits of advanced space technology, the Iranian space chief explained that satellite images could help increase efficiency in managing Iran’s environmental and agricultural sectors.

Data gathered from the satellites could also have a major role in avoiding and managing natural disasters, he said.

The Iranian space chief added that pre-existing satellite information greatly contributed to managing and reducing damages inflicted from major floods earlier this year.

“With new satellite data, this can be done much better,” he said.

Early in September, Barari had stressed that the US sanctions against Iran’s space centers and activities will not leave any impacts on their development.

“Iran’s space program initiatives are completely peaceful and sanctions will have no effect on the development of these plans,” Barari said.

He underlined that Iran’s space activities are fully peaceful, and the membership of the Agency in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and the position of the country in international communities is solid evidence of this.

A week earlier, Iranian Communication and IT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, in a post on his Twitter page, mocked Washington’s recent sanctions on Tehran’s space program, saying space is too vast to be controlled by US President Donald Trump.

“I can’t even locate the US in this picture, let alone sanctions on Space! The universe and the Bright Future belong to everyone, not to a few! Stop imitating Thanos, Donald Trump!” Azari Jahromi tweeted along with a mesmerizing photo of outer space.

Describing the test as a “beautiful achievement”, Jahromi highlighted, “No stop on the path to development!”

Earlier, the director of Iranian Space Research Center (ISRC) Hossein Samimi said just one step has remained for launching Nahid-1 satellite.

He noted that Nahid-1 project will be finalized and the satellite will be delivered for launching.

Nahid-1, which means “Venus” in Persian, is a Low-Earth orbit communications micro-class satellite, designed and developed by ISA in cooperation with the Iranian Space Research Center. The solar-powered satellite will be placed in the geosynchronous orbit for carrying out telecommunication missions.

A telecommunications satellite is an artificial satellite that relays and amplifies radio telecommunications signals via a transponder; it creates a communication channel between a source transmitter and a receiver at different locations on Earth.

Iran successfully launched into orbit its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope) in February 2009.

Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Morteza Barari said on Saturday that three development plans for building ‘Payam 2’ are being reviewed and the production operation will commence within three weeks, once the best plan is selected.

Building the device will take up to four years, he added.

The move comes after an earlier version of the satellite, dubbed ‘Payam’, was successfully launched into space in January, but the technical problems that occurred during the final stage of the launch prevented the spacecraft from reaching orbit.

Payam (meaning ‘message’ in Persian) was designed and developed by experts of Amirkabir University of Technology to carry out imagery and telecommunication missions. It was aimed to orbit the Earth at an altitude of 500 kilometers to take surveying images at high resolutions.

Right after the unsuccessful launch, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi promised that domestic scientists would continue their hard work to start the work on developing Payam 2 in near future.

According to Barari, Iran is among the nine superior states in building satellites beside the US, Russia, Europe and Canada.

Iran has successfully launched other satellites into orbit with the country’s Safir-1, Safir-1A and Safir-1B rockets.

The satellites made in Iran so far have been remote sensing satellites, while the efforts for producing local telecoms satellites began three years ago.
