TEHRAN (Iran News) Thirteen new Iranian products have been officially registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), according to a senior advisor at Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

Mehdi Mirsalehi told IRNA on Monday that the milestone highlights the growing global recognition of Iran’s diverse cultural and natural assets.

The newly registered items include a mix of mineral stones, agricultural goods, and one traditional handicraft, he said.

Among the most notable, he said, are rosewater from the city of Kashan, grapes and apples from Urmia, and a handwoven carpet from Fars Province.

These additions bring the total number of Iranian products registered with WIPO to 87, he added.

Mirsalehi said that Iran’s journey toward international product registration began in 2010 with the global recognition of its handwoven carpets.

Since then, 31 carpet-producing regions across the country, along with various agricultural and mineral products, have been added to the registry, he said.

WIPO is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations. It was established to encourage creative works and protect intellectual property rights globally.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran is capable of increasing the value of its exports to China to $27 billion within the next few years, according to top economic officials in the country.

According to a report on Saturday, economic authorities and trade experts maintain that Tehran and Beijing(China) would exponentially increase their trade relations- after signing the 25-year document- to nearly $27 billion from the previous $9 billion.

China had remained Iran’s biggest trade partner in the Iranian calendar year to late March as the country was responsible for almost a fourth of imports and exports registered at the Iranian customs office.

Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPOI) Hamid Zadboum said non-oil exports to China had topped $9 billion in the year to March.

He said exports could easily increase by three times in the next few years as Iranian products are becoming more popular for the Chinese customers.

‘Iran’s export to China was 26.585 million tons worth $8.954 billion, and its imports from that country was 3.543 million tons valued at $9.761 billion in the previous year.

Pistachios, nuts and spices, mineral and industrial raw materials, construction materials, methanol, polyethylene, carpets, glassware, iron ingots, iron products, dates, grapes and fruits, along with petroleum products were Iran’s main exported items to China.’

The remarks come a few days after Iran and China signed a comprehensive partnership agreement to set out a roadmap for their economic cooperation in the next 25 years.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in a meeting in Tehran on March 27 signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation document.

The cooperation document had for the first time been discussed in 2015, when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Iran, to lead bilateral ties to a comprehensive and strategic level.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran exported five million tons of products worth $1.45 billion to Iraq during March 20-June 20, said an Iranian trade official.

Speaking to IRNA on Friday, Hamid Hosseini, the director-general of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce, added that in the same period last year, Iran had exported 6.2 million tons of goods to its western neighbor, valued at $2.35 billion.

He noted that the outbreak of the coronavirus in the region, the closure of the common border, and the imposition of restrictions have been the reasons for the drop in the weight and value of the overseas sales to Iraq in the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 20).

Commenting on the numerous problems Iraq is currently faced with and the restrictions it has imposed due to the spread of the virus in the country, he regretted that the Arab state’s lack of hygiene facilities has aroused concerns as it fails to have the infrastructure to manage the present situation.

During May 21-June 20, he said, Iran sent 16,000 trucks, loaded with products, to Iraq which helped generate $970m in revenues, adding under the present circumstances, exports to Iraq have witnessed a 33 percent decline year-on-year.

Hosseini noted that, following China, Iraq is Iran’s second main export destination, saying financial assessments indicate that, in the three-month period to June 20, China’s imports from Iran were only $500,000 more than Iraq’s purchases.

He said that in the same duration, the UAE was Iran’s third main export destination.

Hosseini noted that purchasing Iranian products has a number of advantages for Iraqis; among them are lower prices and easy payment.

He said the short distance between the two countries – the origin and destination of exports – as well as easy access to the Iraqi and Iranian markets for exporters and customers, respectively, have encouraged the Iranian private sector to seek a bigger share of the Arab country’s market, which has already given positive signals to Iranian exporters.

The official said that the Shalamcheh, Mehran and Soomar border crossings are currently open two days per week, allowing entry to 250 trucks, expressing hope that with a decline in the coronavirus spread and the reopening of the remaining border crossings between the two countries, conditions would return to normal, as major markets for Iranian products are located in southern and central Iraq.

On Iran’s foreign currency claims from Iraq, Hosseini said the two countries’ officials have reached an agreement.

In an interview with Tasnim, Hadi Tizhoosh Taban said the CIS market presents a golden opportunity to advertise and sell products made in Iran.

Calling for efforts to fulfill the economic goal of the current Iranian year for a “surge in production”, he said an oil-free economy and economic development require the production of commodities with the purpose of exports.

The CIS is a regional intergovernmental organization of nine members, plus two founding non-members, post-Soviet republics in Eurasia. It was formed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The CIS has an estimated population of around 240 million.

Dena+ Turbo Automatic, a crossover, Iranian mega platform, and K132 were the automobiles that were unveiled. Over 90 percent of the parts are manufactured domestically.

Until 2001, there were 13 public and privately owned automakers in Iran, of which two—Iran Khodro and Saipa—accounted for 94% of the total domestic production. Iran Khodro, which produced the most prevalent car brand in the country—the Peykan, which has been replaced in 2005 by the Samand—, was still the larger with 61% of the market in 2001, while Saipa contributed 33% of Iran’s total production in the same year. Iran Khodro is one of the largest car manufacturers in Asia.

The Iranian companies aims to produce electrical, automobile and telecommunications commodities, and double exports to neighboring countries in order to reach a target value of $48 billion products to replace imports, Reza Rahmani, the minister of industry, mine and trade, was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Iran started to ban some 1,400 non-essential goods and commodities within weeks of a decline in the value of rial, the national currency, against the dollar last year, after the United States abandoned the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions against the Iranian economy.

The policy is designed to support local manufacturers and shore up foreign exchange supplies.

Iran exported 80 million tons of non-oil commodities worth $24.5 billion in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-October 22), registering a 17-percent rise in terms of weight.

According to Deputy Industry Minister Hossein Modares Khiabani, in terms of value the figure fell 11 percent compared to last year.

The official noted that the government had allocated 870 billion rials (about $20.7 million) worth of incentives for the country’s exporters in the current Iranian year (ends on March 19, 2020), adding that such incentives could boost national non-oil exports.

Increasing non-oil exports to neighboring countries is among major plans that the Iranian government is pursuing in the current Iranian calendar year.

Fluctuation in quality of some Iranian products will lead to the loss of a part of their exports market.

He made the remarks in a seminar of commemoration of World Standard Day, held in Bushehr on Tue., and added, “lack of quality in some of Iranian products has caused their market share to get lost in Persian Gulf littoral states, Afghanistan and Commonwealth Independent States (CIS).”

The day when Iranian products were exported to the Commonwealth Independent States (CIS), these products were highly welcomed but this trend did not last long, he criticized. That’s the beginning of Iranian goods export market share reduction.

He called on producers and exporters to take the concept of standard in the production field into serious consideration. By doing so Iranian goods export market could be saved.

Constructive viewpoints of consumers should be taken into consideration during compilation and formulation of standards, he emphasized.

He went on to say that standard plays a leading role between production, sustainable employment and exports and this issue shows significance of standard.
