TEHRAN (Iran News) General Sharafi issued the call at the first meeting of Interpol heads of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Monday, saying Iran has put cooperation at the top of its agenda and warmly extends every hand for friendship.

He also expressed hope that the Tehran meeting will provide a suitable platform for achieving specific goals in police cooperation among SCO members that are peace-loving and peace-seeking in the world.

“Since its establishment, the SCO has stuck to the principles of trust and mutual benefits, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity and common development,” General Sharafi pointed out, adding that its most important goal is ensuring “collective security, confronting common threats, and expanding cooperation in various fields.”

Stating that multipolarity is one of the important pillars of the international system, he expressed Iran’s readiness to take concrete, transparent operational steps to create a peaceful world. “Iranian police”

He also called on regional countries to adopt a collective strategy to confront challenges, saying the world is currently facing numerous challenges and, with the erosion of unilateralism, role-playing is shifting from the West to the East, and Asia has become a decisive player on the global stage.

Referring to US-backed Israeli crimes, including in Gaza, he said that regional peace and stability can be determined and secured not in Washington or in some European capitals, but based on the interests and concerns of different countries and regions of the world.

He also rebuked the Western powers for using sanctions as a tool, saying that the use of illegal and oppressive sanctions against various countries has disrupted the establishment of collective security and international order.

Speaking to reporters in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ahmadali Goodarzi said negotiations have been held with Pakistan’s internal security agency about two Iranian border guards who have been held hostage by the so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group since October 2018.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Border Police are engaged in consultations with Pakistan to bring the border guards back home, he added.

Pakistani-based terrorists kidnapped 14 Iranian forces at a border post in the Mirjaveh region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan in October 2018.

The Iranian military forces along the southeastern border areas are frequently attacked by terrorist groups coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Tehran has frequently asked the two neighbors to step up security at the common border to prevent terrorist attacks on Iranian forces.

General Mohammad Sharafi, commander of an Iranian Police department tasked with prevention of crimes, said an Iranian automaker has undertaken to manufacture the mobile police stations for police forces.

He said the Police have placed an order for at least 30 mobile stations, noting that the manufacturer is a local carmaker company located in the central province of Isfahan.

The commander also unveiled plans to provide the Iran’s Police forces with smart equipment in all sectors within the next three years.

The mobile police stations could be deployed anywhere in the city based on the needs of Police, and are expected to increase accessibility and public safety and reduce costs.

In 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on the Police to constantly boost capabilities and match them to rapid advances in science and technology.

The Leader also hailed Police forces as a pillar of security in the country, stressing that security is the origin of personal peace of mind as well as public and social calmness.

Iran’s Police Force is in charge of ensuring security in the cities, on the roads and along the borders.

It has a broad range of responsibilities and includes several divisions, including cyber police, border guard police, traffic police, criminal investigation department, and a bureau for compulsory military service affairs.

pooliceseized narcotics in west province of the country.

Soleimani said the narcotics shipment, which was hidden in a petrol tanker, comprised 3.5 tons of morphine and 5.3 tons of opium, Irannews reports ISNA’s.

“Also in recent days, another shipment of 20 kilograms of heroin as well as 130 pieces of smuggled weapons were seized in Orumiyeh … and on Wednesday more than 175 kilograms of opium, more than 8 kilograms of crystal meth and 8 kilograms of cocaine were seized in Orumiyeh,” he added.

Iran’s neighbor, Afghanistan, produces some 90% of the world’s opium, which is extracted from poppy resin and refined to make heroin and morphine.

Iran is a major transit route for Afghan-produced opiates headed to Europe and beyond. The illegal drugs are often first shipped from Iran and other Asian nations to east Africa, where smuggling networks help move it into Europe and even into the U.S. black market.

Iran confiscates and destroys hundreds of tons of illicit narcotics every year. According to the latest UN figures, Iran accounted for 91% of the world’s opium seizures and 20% of heroin and morphine seizures in 2017, amounting to 694 and 43 tons respectively. The seized cargoes will be demolished as an act of showing the seriousness of efforts.

In comments on July 9, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi said 3,815 Iranian law enforcement forces have lost their lives and over 12,000 others have been wounded in the war on drug trafficking over the past 40 years.

Over the past three decades, Iran has seized approximately 11,000 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, he added, saying that in 2018 alone, Iranian forces carried out 1,557 operations against drug traffickers, seizing approximately 807 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Iran’s anti-narcotics police forces have managed to capture more than 12,000 kilograms of various kinds of illicit drugs across the country over the past week, the deputy commander of Anti-Drug Headquarters announced on Wednesday.

The total amount of seizures over the past week stood at 12,676 kg of various kinds of narcotics, showing a 25 percent increase compared to the seizures a week earlier, Brigadier General Assadollah Hadinejad said.

Most of the illicit drugs are opium, amounting to 10,333 kg, which accounts for 81% of the total seizures in the last week, the commander stated.

He further said 841 kg of hashish, 384 kg of morphine, 512 kg of heroine, 455 kg of crystal meth, and 147 liters of precursors are among the captured illicit drugs.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.

Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past decades.

The country has spent more than $700 million on sealing its borders and preventing the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.

The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Iranian police officers over the past four decades.
