TEHRAN (Iran News) – An Iranian lawmaker says Tehran is not worried about the dispatching of the USS Georgia submarine to the Persian Gulf as the country is able to target the vessel.

“Iranian forces are able to catch the US’ atomic submarines and Tehran is not worried about US military activities in the Persian Gulf waters,” Seyyed Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, First Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, told Arabic RT on Tuesday.

The remarks come as a fleet of US Navy ships, including the USS Georgia, has entered the Persian Gulf while the US claims the dispatching aims to ensure the security of the Persian Gulf.

“This is not the first time that such military activities happen,” said the MP, adding, “US and UK have created bases in Persian Gulf littoral states and everywhere that these two countries are present means Israel has infiltrated there.”

“These bases are being run in the name of US and UK but officially are controlled by Israel and naturally, we do not recognize Israel as a state but as a part of US’s identity in West Asia. So these [developments] are not new and we do not consider them serious.”

“US and Israel failed to do anything against us when we had not the required tools and technology for encountering them but we are not well equipped,” he said. “As we were able to down the American drone last year, we are capable of catching American wales easily from the depth of the Persian Gulf using a fishing net. So we are not worried regarding the issue.”

The fact that the submarine is run by nuclear energy, he continued, should be a source of concern for Arab countries of the Persian Gulf that are desalinizing the water. “In case of an atomic blast, the water will be contaminated with radioactive elements and desalinization centers in these countries will be destroyed and this will further complicate their situation.”

“In this closed session on Wednesday, attended by the Industry Minister Razm Hosseini, economic subjects including the priorities of the ministry, setting the goods’ prices, supply and distribution of goods, and issues related to steel companies were discussed,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said.

“Some new decisions about the swap of goods, reforming exports and imports processes and supply of foreign exchange currencies were made during the session,” he added.

He hoped that these decisions will have the necessary impact on stabilizing the domestic stock market and reducing the forex rates.

After a long period of climbing, the foreign exchange rates and gold prices declined on Tuesday, following renewed intervention by the Central Bank of Iran.

Earlier in the week, the CBI said it was pumping $50 million in the chaotic market every day to curb prices. The CBI has reportedly injected $385 million in the regulated forex market in the past five days.

As the domestic gold market is heavily influenced by forex rates, the precious metal also experienced a steep decline on Tuesday.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A group of Iranian Parliament lawmakers put forward a motion for an automatic withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in case the activation of snapback mechanism in the JCPOA would re-impose the UN sanctions on Tehran.

The proposal, signed by 49 MPs and submitted to the Parliament’s presiding board, asserts that Iran must withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) automatically as soon as the snapback mechanism is triggered and the UN sanctions are reinstated.

The lawmakers also lashed out at the US government for mounting pressures on Iran and its push to trigger the snapback mechanism after its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018.

While the US has violated the JCPOA and is attempting to re-impose the UN sanctions against Iran by resorting to the JCPOA mechanism, it is necessary to protect the national interests, said the proposal.

Considering that remaining in the JCPOA will not be in Iran’s interests and the UN Security Council sanctions will be re-imposed if the snapback mechanism is triggered, the Iranian government must be required to withdraw from the nuclear deal in that case as a preemptive measure, the MPs said in the motion.

As part of an illegal push, the United States is trying to invoke the snapback mechanism in the JCPOA despite its withdrawal in May 2018 in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the nuclear deal.

The key point in the snapback mechanism is that in case of a failure to resolve a dispute among the parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the UNSC would vote on a resolution “to continue the sanctions lifting”, meaning that a single veto from one of the UNSC members (most likely from the US) would end the sanctions’ lifting and slap the previous sanctions against Tehran again.

The debate on the CFT kicked off on Sunday morning with 268 lawmakers present in the parliament. A total of 143 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill while 120 voted against it. Five MPs also abstained.

The CFT bill is one of the four bills proposed by the Hassan Rouhani admininstration to take Iran out of FATF blacklist.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif attended the parliament to defend the ratification of the CFT bill.

“We cannot give guarantees that by joining the CFT the (banking) problems will be resolved but we can give guarantees that by not joining the bill the United States will invent pretexts to create more problems for us,” Zarif said before the voting.

Zarif said without approving the bill even China and Russia as “strategic partners” of Iran will have problems to do banking transactions with Iran.

Citing an example, the foreign minister said China’s central bank governor has told Iranian counterpart Abdolnasser Hemati that without FATF they cannot work with Iran.

“In today’s open meeting, the members of the parliament will discuss the main articles of the Budget Bill of 1397,” said MP Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh, a member of the governing board of the parliament, addressing the meeting in the opening.

The open meeting of Iranian Parliament kicked off on Wednesday with 216 legislators present and under the chair of Speaker Ali Larijani.

According to parliamentary sources, three MPs will address the today’s session in favor of the bill and three other MPs will speak against the bill.

Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, the Head of Iran’s Planning and Budget Organization, and MP Ali Asghar Yousefi, the Chairman of the Integration Commission of the Parliament (a commission made up of representatives from all specialized commissions of the parliament), for half an hour each, are also slated to address the today’s session.

Finally after all the speeches delivered, the main articles of the bill will be again voted by the parliament.

On Sunday, lawmakers voted 120 to 83 against the bill, with 9 abstentions, out of the total of 216 available votes.

The bill was tabled by President Rouhai around 50 days ago and being discussed in specialized commissions and the integration commission for the last 49 days, it was laid open to debate on Sunday and, after two rounds of sessions in the morning and afternoon, was left to the general vote of the whole parliament.

The article specifies that some 30 percent of the posts in state-run organizations must be allocated to physically challenged people.

While hammering out the general outlines of the bill on the rights of persons with disabilities the MPs have adopted the article to enhance these vulnerable groups’ employment chances.

According to labor minister Ali Rabiei some 1.5 million individuals suffer multiple disabilities nationwide, ISNA reported on December 6.

“Unfortunately, in most cases disabilities is closely interrelated with poverty especially in border regions. They usually face barriers to participate fully in the society,” Rabiei explained.

According to World Health Organization more than 1 billion persons in the world have some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world’s population. Some 110-190 million people have very significant difficulties in functioning. People with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed than non-disabled people.

As indicated by the World report on disability (WRD) people with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed than non-disabled people as the employment rate of people with disabilities (44%) is slightly over half that for people without disabilities (75%).

The report further state that while national governments are expected to take on the most significant role, other actors can make important contributions. The report makes concrete recommendations on how United Nations agencies, disabled people’s organizations, service providers, academic institutions, the private sector, communities and people with disabilities themselves can help improve the situation.

TEHRAN – The Iranian parliament on Sunday voted in favor of a double-urgency bill that recognizes al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the permanent capital of the state of Palestine.

The bill was passed by 187 votes in favor, 15 against and 9 abstentions.

It came as a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of al-Quds as the capital of Israel, a move that angered the international community, especially the Muslim world. Trump also announced that he will move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The motion will be annexed to Article 1 of a legislation that states Iran’s support for the Palestinian nation.

It has been referred to a relative parliamentary committee and will be put on the parliament’s agenda within the next 48 hours.

The Islamic Republic has long been a staunch supporter of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and urged Muslim nations across the globe to unite against the Zionist regime.

On Thursday, in response to Trump’s incendiary move, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by a decisive vote of 128 to 9, calling on the U.S. government to reverse the decision.
