Iranian films screen at Asia Film Festival

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The 2020 Asia Film Festival Barcelona will host 18 Iranian films.

The 18 Iranian films are including “A Man Without a Shadow” directed by Alireza Raisian, “African Violet” by Mona Zandi Haqiqi, “Castle of Dreams” by Reza Mirkarimi, “Dance With Me” by Soroush Sehat, “Diapason” by Hamed Tehrani, “The Oath” by Mohsen Tanabandeh, “Gholamreza Takhti” by Bahram Tavakoli, “Labyrinth” by Amir Hossein Torabi, “Life Among War Flags” by Mohsen Eslamzadeh, “My Second Year in College” by Rasoul Sadrameli, “Old Men Never Die” by Alireza Raisian, “Repression” by Reza Gouran, “Sly” by Kamal Tabrizi, “That Night’s Train” by Hamidreza Ghotbi, “The Charcoal” by Esmaeel Monsef, “Tsunami” by Milad Sadrameli, “We Are All Together” by Kamal Tabrizi and “Zero Floor” by Ebrahim Ebrahimian.

The new edition of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona will be held From the 28th of October to the 8th of November. It will have an extensive programme of cinema, meetings, conferences and seminars with the intention of contributing to the knowledge of cinematographies which are not usually present in the commercial circuits.

As with the preceding editions, the event will include around 100 feature films proceeding from a vast territorial extension that goes from Central Asia to South-East Asia and from there to the Asia – Pacific region. The festival will host films from more than twenty-five countries, from Iran and the former Soviet republics of Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Macao, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and the Asia – Pacific with Australia and New Zealand. More than a hundred films that will be presented this year have been produced between 2018 and 2020 and will be distributed over the following sections: Official, Official Panorama, Discoveries, NETPAC and Special, all of which fall under competition.

Two Iranian Films to Compete in Chicago Film Festival

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Two Iranian films will compete with several international films at the 56th edition of the Chicago International Film Festival, which is slated for October 14-25.

Iran’s feature film, ‘Careless Crime,’ directed by Shahram Mokri, will go on screen at the International Feature Competition section and will go into competition with films from Germany, Greece, Russia, the US, Mexico, Italy, Poland, and Japan, IRNA wrote.

Mokri’s film, which had its first international screening at the Venice festival, won an award for Best Original Screenplay in the International Film Critics’ Week (SIC) during the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

‘Spotted Yellow,’ by Baran Sarmad, will also be at the Short Competition section of the Chicago festival.

Sarmad’s short film tells the story of Roya, a young girl with a yellow spot on her face. One day she feels the signs of a real giraffe in her life. And her normal life is slowly changing.

The 56th edition of the festival follows a pandemic hybrid model of mostly digital offerings, along with eight films presented at the popular ChiTown Movies drive-in. Since the summer this modest 2020 Chicago phenomenon has become the city’s preferred drive-in location, located in Pilsen, just off South Throop Street behind the big brick ChiTown Futbol facility, according to chicagotribune.com.

Czech, Slovakian festival of Iranian films unveils lineup

The Iranian Film Festival, which will be held in Czech and Slovakia, has unveiled its official lineup.

About 30 movies will compete in the various sections of the festival, the organizers have announced.

“The Graveless” by Mostafa Sayyari, “Reza” by Alireza Motamedi, “Pig” by Mani Haqiqi, “Bomb, a Love Story” by Peyman Maadi, “3 Faces” by Jafar Panahi and six other films will compete in the feature film section.

“Women with Gunpowder Earrings” by Reza Farahmand, “Ali Aqa” by Kamran Heidari, “Finding Farideh” co-directed by Azadeh Musavi and Kurosh Atai and three more movies will go on screen in the documentary section.

“Like A Good Kid” by Arian Vazirdaftari, “Lunch Time” by Alireza Qasemi and “A Moon in Wane” by Ali Drakhshandeh are in the short films lineup.

The festival will run in the Czech cities of Prague and Brno and the Slovakian capital of Bratislava from January 15 to 26.
