Iranian Army launches large-scale drill in Sea of Oman

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Army launches large-scale drill in Sea of Oman. The Army on Sunday staged a massive military exercise in Iran’s southeastern coastal areas and naval zones in the Sea of Oman with the involvement of all of airborne units, special forces, and rapid reaction brigades.

The drill, codenamed Zolfaqar-1400, covers an area of over one million square kilometers southeast of Iran, stretching from the eastern parts of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to the northern tip of the Indian Ocean and parts of the Red Sea, according to Tasnim.

Troops serving in the Army’s infantry, armored units, mechanized regiments, Navy, Air Force, and Air Defense have taken part in the main stage of the exercise.

Rear Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi, the spokesman for the drill, said the tactical and coastal units in the war game have employed various electronic warfare equipment and drones, including different homegrown drones such as Ababil-3, Yasir, Sadeq, Mohajer-4 and Simorgh, besides P3F, RF4, and Boeing 707 aircraft.

Mousavi hailed the sustainability of communications during the drill. He said air defense units confront mock enemy targets.

The spokesman also said the exercise carries a message for the regional countries as a preparation for establishment of peace and friendship on the basis of intra-regional capacities.

History has proven that extra-regional actors favor belligerence and insecurity in the region, Tasnim quoted Mousavi as saying.

In comments at a press conference on Saturday, Deputy Army Chief for Coordination Affairs Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the drill is aimed at raising the combat and defense capabilities of the Army units in protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

Sayyari also noted that the troops will be demonstrating the Islamic Republic’s power in remote waters during the war game, warning the enemies that any act of aggression against Iran will draw a crushing response from the Army.

The Iranian Armed Forces stage routine military exercises throughout the year.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great strides in developing and manufacturing a broad range of equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient.

Officials have repeatedly underscored that Iran will not hesitate to build up its defense capabilities, emphasizing such abilities are entirely meant for the purpose of defense and will be never subject to negotiations.

Iranian Army Ends Exercise in Southern Waters

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Iranian Army on Saturday finished a large-scale military exercise in the Sea of Oman and parts of the Indian Ocean.

The drill, codenamed Zolfaqar-99, had begun on Thursday with forces from various units in attendance, including the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, and Air Defense.

The drill zone covered an area of 2 million square kilometers in eastern parts of the Strait of Hormuz, Makran Coast, Sea of Oman, and northern parts of the Indian Ocean, down to the 10-degrees latitude.

Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of the exercise, Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi said a broad range of homegrown equipment was utilized in the war game, including submarines, drones and missiles.

The commander said the massive drill has assured the people of Iran that the Armed Forces are fully prepared to protect the national interests.

The message of the war game for the ill-wishers is that they should never test the Islamic Republic of Iran and avoid miscalculations, otherwise they would “receive a regrettable response”.

Iran’s Armed Forces hold routine military exercises throughout the year.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Army: Iran sees no limitation in developing drones

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Commander of Iran’s Army Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi noted that the country sees no restriction in growing and developing different drones.

Making the remarks on Sunday while paying a visit to a drone unit of Army’s Ground Force, he evaluated Iran’s home-grown drones powerful and efficient in fulfilling their missions, Mehr News Agency reported.

Underlining that the strategic significance of drones in the arena of unfair economic and military wars, Mousavi said that Iran’s drones are all domestically grown and the country has no reliance on foreign countries in this sector.

In mid-April, the commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) announced that Iranian Armed Forces are among the world’s top five powers capable of building combat drones.

“Iran is the first top power in terms of developing combat drones in the region, and is among the top five in the world,” he said.

Referring to the new domestically-manufactured drones delivered to the Air Force, the IRIAF chief said, “The Air Force possesses a well-equipped manned aircraft squadron, however, we need to modernize our UAV fleet as well to in order to keep our deterrence power at high levels.

His comments came a day after Iran’s Defense Ministry made mass delivery of new combat and surveillance drones, including a jet-powered multipurpose UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) to Army’s Air force and Air Defense Force.

Iranian Army Shoots Down Foreign Drone over Southwestern City

According To Iran News, Commander of the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard confirmed that his forces have shot down an unidentified foreign drone over the southwestern port city of Mahshahr.

In remarks on Friday, Brigadier General Sabahifard said an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that had violated the Iranian airspace this morning was destroyed by domestically made air defense systems of the Army in Mahshahr.

“This decisive act and the firing of the missile was in response to the violation of our airspace by a foreign drone,” he said.

“The intruding drone was destroyed before reaching critical sites of the country thanks to the full vigilance of the country’s integrated air defense network,” the top commander added.

“We have repeatedly warned that the integrated air defense network of the country will respond decisively to any violation of its airspace with full preparedness,” said Brigadier General Sabahifard.

According to the governor of Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan, Gholamreza Shariati, the downed drone definitely belonged to a foreign country and its wreckage has been recovered.

In June, Iran shot down an advanced US spy drone, which the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said was flying over southern parts of the country.

The IRGC said that the US spy drone had violated the Iranian territorial airspace in the early hours of June 20 and was immediately shot down by the IRGC Aerospace Force’s air defense unit near the Kooh-e-Mobarak region in the southern province of Hormozgan.

The intruding drone was reportedly shot by Iran’s homegrown air defense missile system “Khordad-3rd”.

Iranian Army Navy wraps up Velayat-97 drills; all objectives materialized

Massive three-day naval drill, code-named ‘Velayat-97’, in the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, which kicked off on Friday with the participation of home-grown, recently unveiled ‘Fateh’ submarine and ‘Sahand’ destroyer, wrapped up today.

According to the Public Relations Department of Iranian Army Navy, the three-day Velayat-97 naval drills ended today, during which different units of the Iranian Army Navy practices naval parades, simulation of a real naval war, maritime and land offense to recapture occupied territories by the enemy, and the launching of various types of missiles and torpedoes were practiced by the Iranian naval forces.

The drill was held in an area of over two million square kilometers, from the east of the Strait of Hormuz to the Sea of Oman and the northern parts of the Indian Ocean.

Domestically-made and recently unveiled ‘Fateh’ submarine and ‘Sahand’ destroyer were participating in the drill. Furthermore, Ghadir submarine, for the first time in the history of Iran’s naval drills, launched cruise missiles towards targets on the water surface and hit it. According to the Public Relations Department of Iranian Army Navy, all the objectives of the drill were materilazed by the Army Navy units.

Maj. Gen. Mousavi pays visit to SW defense units

The Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Army Abdolrahim Mousavi is on a tour to Iranian southwestern province of Khuzestan to make an evaluation of the forces’ readiness in that region.

Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Army paid an official visit to defense units based in south eastern borders and regions of Iran.

During the visit, the Commander of Khatam Al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili and a host of deputies and advisors accompanied Major General Mousavi.

The visit was aimed to check the readiness, capabilities, efficiency of tools and equipment, and the creativity of the defense units.

Visiting bases in Ahvaz and Mahshahr and also the IRGC defense base of Ghadir, Major General Mousavi lauded the readiness of the forces.

According to a report by Iran’s army, assessment for improving living conditions of the army staff stationed in that region was another objective of the visit.

Iranian Army unveils 3 new achievements all of which are pieces of equipment relating to combat helicopters.

In a ceremony in the presence of Iran’s deputy Army Ground Forces Commander for Coordination today two days ahead of the Army National Day, the 3 achievements were unveiled.

All the 3 achievements are equipment that can be installed on military helicopters.

The first achievement of the Iranian Army is Shafagh projectiles that have recently been tested successfully and are domestically produced by Iranian military experts.

The second achievement was equipping reconnaissance, logistical support, transport helicopters with rocket launchers and machine guns. This subsystem will increase the aggressive maneuverability of combat helicopters and reduce their weaknesses in the battlefield.

And finally, helicopter night vision instrument that can enhance operational range and monitoring capability of the combat choppers to detect the target in the darkness of the night.

Iranian Army, IRGC vow to boost missile power

TEHRAN – The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps are ramping up efforts for closer coordination in line with national defense strategies and boosting military capabilities including upgrading missile deterrence, IRNA reported.

In a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi stressed the need to develop military power in land, sea, and air.

They also stressed the significant role that the IRGC and the Army played in providing disaster relief aid for the people in the western province of Kermanshah after a recent devastating earthquake.
