‘Under Influence’ to vie at Tofuzi filmfest. in Georgia

According to the director Maryam Amiri, ‘Under Influence’ is a three-minute 2D animated film, which explores the concept of decision-making in children.

The animation will take part at the 11th edition of ‘Tofuzi’ International Festival of Animated Films in Georgia.

Two other Iranian short animations, namely ‘Sink’ by Mahboobeh Kalaee and ‘Stair’ by Siamak Vahed, had been previously named as part of the competition lineup of the Georgian festival.

The International Festival of Animated Films “TOFUZI” will take a place on 21 – 26 of October in the city of Batumi, capital of Ajara, Georgia.

The festival aims to encourage the exchange of creative experiences, search of new ideas, styles and technologies, according to the event’s website.

‘The Last Fiction’ wins at San Diego filmfest. in US

The Last Fiction’, directed by Ashkan Rahgozar and produced by Ehsan Rasulof at Hoorakhsh Studios, is an open interpretation of the story of ‘Zahhak’, a page from one of the central tales of the ‘Book of Kings/Shahnameh’ written by acclaimed Persian poet Ferdowsi between 977 and 1010.

The film follows Zahhak’s treacherous rise to the throne in Jamkard in Persia. The young and naïve hero Afaridoun will have to save the kingdom and its people from darkness. But he must first conquer his own demons in this portrayal of Persian mythology which reveals human nature.

In its latest international screening, the Iranian animation managed to win the ‘Best Animated Future Film’ at the 16th edition of San Diego International Kids’ Film Festival in the US, held on 23-25 August 2019.

The SDIKFF screened over 150 films from more than 30 countries. With goals to promote positive educational impact on children and the youth, the San Diego International Kid’s Film Festival actively supports innovative films made by filmmakers from around the globe, according to the event’s website.

The voice cast of the animation includes top Iranian actors such as Leila Hatami (‘A Separation’), Parviz Parastui (‘Today’) and Ashkan Khatibi (‘So Close, So Far’).

The animation premiered at Annecy, the world’s top animation film festival in France, and won several awards at international film festivals including the best feature animation award at the 3rd international South American films festival in Chile, the best film award at the 3rd Ajayu International Animation Festival in Peru, and the best score award at the 22nd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea.

Its international screening has recently kicked off in as many as 33 countries including Sweden, Russia and the US.

Iran’s ‘The Last Fiction’ to go on screen in 32 countries

The international screening of the Iranian animation ‘The Last Fiction’ will begin on September 1 in Sweden, Finland, and Norway, and continue on October 1 in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, South Ossetia and Moldova.

The Iranian animation will then go on screen in the United States from September 27, and continue its screenings in the format of Video on-demand (VOD) in Spain, Greece, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia from October 1.

3 Iranian animations at 17th Imaginaria Filmfest. in Italy

The lineup for the 17th Imaginaria International Animated Film Festival in Italy includes three titles from Iran: ‘Sink’ by Mahboobeh Kalaee; ‘Jebeer’ by Reyhane Mirhashemi; and ‘Mr Indifferent’ by Aryasb Feiz.

‘Sink’ has previously taken part at 42nd Elche International Independent Film Festival in Spain, and the 10th Vafi & Rafi International Children and Youth Animation Film Festival in Croatia.

Imaginaria, which is characterized by the importance of “numbers” and the excellent quality of thousands of works of international standing, is a project to promote, disseminate, film training, which aims to promote the independent authors of animated films, according to the event’s website.

The 17th edition of festival will take place on August 19 – 23, 2019 in Conversano, Italy.

‘The Fisherman and Spring’ goes to Italy’s Lago Filmfest.

The animation is based on Mojgan Kalhor’s illustrated children’s book ‘The Fisherman and Spring’, which tells the story of a fisherman who lives in a snowy region with a very long winter. The Fisherman supposes that the spring has lost its way to the region, therefore he starts searching for it. A little fish and a group of birds also join him in searching for the missing spring.

The animation will enjoy its first international screening at the ‘UNICEF KIDS’ section of the 15th edition of Lago Film Fest in Italy.

The event will take place at Revine Lago from 19 to 27 July.

‘Am I a Wolf’ goes to Russia’s Insomnia Filmfest.

‘Am I a Wolf’ depicts children performing in school the familiar story of a wolf attacking herd animals. The scenes central to the piece is a nanny goat in grief for losing the yeanlings and an angry wolf facing each other.

The short animated piece will take part at the 7th edition of Insomnia International Animation Film Festival in Russia.

The event, which says to be the first Russian noncommercial open-air animation festival, will take place on 18-22 July in Kaluga in western Russia.

‘Am I a Wolf’ has recently won the award for best animated film at the 6th Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon, and the New Face Award at the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival.

Iranian animation ‘Ballsy’ goes to Beirut HR Filmfest.

The animation is about two chickens which lack food and strike out on their own. It received a nomination for best animation award at the 9th Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Jordan, which gave rise to its sister festival in Lebanon.

Karama HRFF Beirut contributes to spreading a Human Rights Cinema that denounces racism, hatred discourse, discrimination and injustice, according to the event’s website.

“Aiming to mobilize solidarity and support with the minorities, the festival screens a selection of films from around the world, and holds open discussions to shed light on human rights violations worldwide and the prospects of social change and progress.”

The festival selects films that engage and inform people about human rights issues related to immigration, asylum, censorship and repression, eviction, child abuse and exploitation, death penalties, poverty, social exclusion, war and conflicts, etc.

Its fourth edition will be held on 1-5 July in the Lebanese capital.

‘The Last Fiction’ wins top prize at Chilean filmfest.

The animated movie ‘The Last Fiction’, directed by Ashkan Rahgozar and produced by Ehsan Rasulof at Hoorakhsh Studios, is an open interpretation of the story of ‘Zahhak’, a page from one of the central tales of the ‘Book of Kings/Shahnameh’ written by acclaimed Persian poet Ferdowsi between 977 and 1010.

‘The Last Fiction’ has been lauded by Screen International as Iran’s first entirely locally made animated feature, made with all Iranian artists, as well as the first fully Iranian feature to premiere at Annecy (June 12-15), the world’s top animation film festival in France.

The 2D animated film had been in production for eight years, and won several other awards, such as the best film award at the 3rd Ajayu International Animation Festival in Puno, Peru, and the best score award at the 22nd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea.

The voice cast includes top Iranian actors such as Leila Hatami (‘A Separation’), Parviz Parastui (‘Today’) and Ashkan Khatibi (‘So Close, So Far’).

The third edition of the Chilean film festival was held on 23-26 May, 2019.

‘The Fox’ goes to 3 intl. film festivals

‘The Fox’ is about a young and lively fox that is caught by a hunter when experiencing its first love. The hunter puts a bell around the fox’s neck and returns it to the woods. The bell prevents the fox from hunting and living its normal life in the woods and it soon realizes that its only way to survive is to be tamed and go back to the hunter.

It will take part in the international competition section of the 2nd Phenicien International Film Festival in Paris and Léon, scheduled for 14-16 March 2019.

‘The Fox’ will then be screened in the non-competition section of the 18th Lisbon International Short Film Festival, to be held on 22-31 March 2019 in Portugal.

The Iranian animated piece will also take part at the competition section of 22nd Green Mountain Film Festival in Vermont, US, slated for 22-30 March 2019.
