TEHRAN (Iran News) Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadeq, Iranian Ambassador to Iraq,  has met with Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, to discuss issues of mutual interest.

According to a statement from al-Hakim’s office, the two officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran. Their dialogue focused on fostering cooperation that would benefit both nations and their peoples, aiming to deepen Islamic, cultural, economic, and political ties.

Highlighting the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq, al-Hakim described this electoral event as crucial and transformative, with the potential to shift the country from a fragile stability to a more enduring one. He emphasized that establishing stability and tranquility in the region is essential for achieving international security.

During the meeting, the Iraqi cleric also underscored the importance of supporting the Palestinian people, aiding refugees, and rebuilding devastated cities. He advocated for resolving issues through dialogue, reflecting a commitment to peaceful and constructive engagement in regional affairs.

For this reason, the Afghan Foreign Ministry issued a statement and thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its cooperation and collaboration in the restoration of peace in Afghanistan.

In this meeting, the two sides expressed their readiness to hold the Sixth Meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation and finalize the comprehensive cooperation document between Iran and Afghanistan.

In addition, the two sides emphasized strengthening and expanding political, economic, and trade relations between the two countries.

Afghan foreign minister, for his part, appreciated Iran’s positive and constructive role in the Afghan peace process and added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has encouraged the Taliban, as an influential group in the country’s security, to join the peace talks.

The second round of peace talks between the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban group began in the Qatari capital Doha.

The Afghan peace talks between Afghanistan government and the Taliban group started on Sept. 12, 2020, with the participation of a number of foreign ministers and representatives of international organizations, which have so far only managed to agree on the agenda of the talks.

Previously, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday held talks with the leader of Afghanistan’s Hezb-e-Wahdat-e Islami party Karim Khalili in Islamabad on the peace process in Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said.

Khalili, the former Afghan vice president, arrived in Pakistan on a three-day visit on Monday.

Qureshi described as “good omen” the progress in intra-Afghan negotiations currently underway in Qatar to decide a future political roadmap, according to the statement.

“It has been Pakistan’s long-standing stance that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict. A comprehensive negotiated political settlement is the only solution acceptable to the Afghan leadership,” the statement quoted Qureshi as saying.
