The top commander said the military drone has been developed in two versions and is aimed for conducting long reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

Brigadier General Sabahifard noted that Kian has been fully designed and developed by Iranian experts and technicians within a one-year period.

“The unmanned vehicle can hit targets way beyond the country’s borders and can start its defensive mission on enemies’ soil,” he said.

Speaking on Saturday, the Army Air Defense commander referred to the Islamic Republic’s significant defensive developments in recent years, saying the defense sector “is ahead of its predicted plans.”

“The train of air defense is on the rail of progress and in the Second Phase of the Revolution, it will offer many surprises which will reassure friends and frighten enemies,” he added.

Referring to recent achievements of air defense, namely Bavar-373 missile system and Falagh radar, the commander added that this progress shows Iran is capable of designing and manufacturing different equipment in the defense sector.

Iran’s defense sector has seen many great achievements made by Iranian engineers during recent years. The most recent unveiling came last week as domestically made Bavar-373 air defense system came on stream. Tehran has repeatedly announced that its military power is just aimed at defending the country against threats and does not present any threat to others.

The domestically-made air defense can cover 200 km and track different air threats at an altitude of 27 km. The system enjoys superior capabilities than the Russian S 300.

The officials at Defense Ministry have already announced that ‘Bavar-373’ was successfully test-fired.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said last week that Bavar-373 will be unveiled on August 22.

He said that enemies are organizing different plots to insecure Iran’s airspace. Iranian forces managed to inflict heavy losses to Saddam military using even the most basic equipment, he added.

The United States has been ramping up pressure against Iran, which has mostly led to escalating tension in the Persian Gulf, following tanker and drone incidents.

On July 19, the US Central Command issued a statement claiming it was “developing a multinational maritime effort, Operation Sentinel, to increase surveillance of and security in key waterways in the Middle East.”

Iranian general mentioned that Iranian technicians have manufactured a whole host of air defense systems, including tactical and stationary radars, artillery and missile weapons, signal and data collecting equipment, electronic warfare gear, and drones for missions and applications in diverse frequencies and ranges.

Referring to air defense cooperation between Iran and Iraq, Sabahi Fard noted that Iranian Air Defense is fully prepared to meet Iraq’s air defense demands in all fields.

Iranian Air Defense is ready to help Iraq in manufacturing and providing technical support for various air defense systems by relying on local experts, he added.

The Iraqi General Tariq Abbas Ibrahim Abdul Hussein, for his part, hailed Iran’s advances in the air defense industry, saying Iraqi military delegations have been acquainted with the Islamic Republic’s great capabilities after a series of visits to Iran.

He also expressed his country’s willingness to work with Iranian air defense experts for manufacturing equipment, training, and technical support in various fields, such as electronic warfare, radars, visual monitoring, command and control, radar-related calculations, and software systems.
