TEHRAN (Iran News) – United World Wrestling Asia has announced Bana and Mohammadi as nominations of the Best Coach in each style.

The results of the contest are based on the performance criteria for 2019, which has been approved at General Assembly of the United Wrestling Asia in Xi’an (China) on the initiative of the President of the United World Wrestling Asia Daulet Turlykhanov to promote and develop wrestling in Asian continent.

In the nominations “Best Greco-Roman coach of the year” won the head coach of the Iranian national team, the legendary Mohammad Bana. Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers won three bronzes and three Olympic licenses at the World Championships, and four gold and three bronze medals at the continental championship under the leadership of Bana.

In the nominations “Best freestyle wrestling coach of the year” also won the representative of Iran, a well-known wrestler in the past (four-time medalist of the World Cup), and nowadays the head coach of the Iranian team Gholamreza Mohammadi. This year, the Iranian national freestyle wrestling team dominated at the Asian Championship by winning seven gold and three bronze medals.

To reveal the winner of the nomination “Best freestyle wrestler of the Year” was very difficult. Two wrestlers in this nomination scored an equal (90) points. Nurkozha Kaipanov (70 kg) from Kazakhstan and Alireza Karimi Machiani (92 kg) from Iran. Both wrestlers won Asian Championship and ranking series in Sassari (Italy).

Also, they became owners of silver medals in the World Championship. To objectively identify the best wrestler, the following criteria were taken into consideration: victory in other important events and the number of participants in the weight category at the World Championships.

If Alireza Karimi Machiani won the World Club Championship this year, Nurkozha Kaipanov won the silver medal of the World Military Games in Xi’an (China).

In 92 weight category in World Championships (Nur-Sultan) participated 18 athletes, while 30 wrestlers participated in 70 kg. This factor has become crucial in identifying the best freestyle wrestler, uww.asia reported.

In the nomination “Most Active National Federation” won the national federation of Kazakhstan, which held a high-level senior World championship and the cadet Asian championship in Nur Sultan city.

All winners will be awarded with valuable prizes from the United World Wrestling Asia. The time and place of official delivery will be announced later.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs announced on Wednesday that the 2019 Greco-Roman World Cup host will surely be Iran.

“With the efforts of the National Olympic Committee, Iran’s Wrestling Federation and talks with President of Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili, and also contributions of Iranian Foreign Ministry and using capacities of Georgian, Japanese, and Russian envoys to Iran, the Greco-Roman World Cup host has been choosed as Tehran with a change in its date,” said the ministry.

The United World Wrestling announced on Sunday that the Greco-Roman World Cup, which was slated to take place in Tehran on Nov. 28-29, has been postponed till further notice, citing concerns over security situation as the reason behind the decision.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Wrestling Federation objected to the decision. “Everything is ready for an ideal hosting of the event; so I believe postponing the games is meaningless,” the federation’s spokesman Hassan Rangraz said on Monday in an interview with IRIB.

He said that the federation was trying to present the required clues and evidence to the international body to prove the country’s stable condition and its readiness to hold the event.

Also, President of Iran’s National Olympic Committee Reza Salehi Amiri officially protested to the decision in a letter to the president of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Nenad Lalović on Tuesday.

Rangraz said on Wednesday that “we will definitely host the World Cup but we are waiting to receive information [from UWW] about the exact date of the event.”

Iran Reacts to UWW’s Decision to Postpone Greco-Roman World Cup

According To Iran News, Spokesman of Iran Wrestling Federation Hassan Rangraz criticized United World Wrestling for postponing the 2019 Greco-Roman World Cup.

In response to current situation in Iran, the World Cup, originally slated to be held next weekend in Tehran, has been postponed.

The UWW Executive Committee held a meeting on Sunday in Istanbul and assessed a variety of sources including the associated Foreign Ministries recommendations to travelers in Iran and the recent decision of other sports.

It was also acknowledged by the Executive Committee that two teams had already withdrawn their participation due to the recommendations of their nations.

“The postponing the competition is meaningless. We are ready to host the competition and have finalized preparation. UWW has canceled the event without considering our condition. We have no security problems in the country and want to fix some difficulties for the participants,” Rangraz said.

“Iran is ready to host one of the most glorious competitions. We believe that the postponing the competition in Tehran is meaningless,” he added.
