Mehdizadeh will be ineligible for competition for four years from June 27, 2021 to June 26, 2025.

The 130kg wrestler has won three gold medals in 2014, 2017 and 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships.

Sunday’s triumph came after Iran had dominated the Greco-Roman contests, claiming the top spot with nine medals – five golds in 2020 Asian wrestling tournament.

Iran finished atop the freestyle standings with 168 points, followed by India (159pts), Kazakhstan (146pts) and Japan (140pts).

Mohammad-Javad Ebrahimi – representing Iran in the 92kg weight class – demolished Takuma Otsu of Japan 11-0 and notched up the country’s second gold of the freestyle contests.

Another Iran-Japan final earlier in the day had seen Ahmad Bazri concede a loss to Japanese Shutaro Yamada and take the silver.

Parviz Hadi – having suffered a semifinal defeat against Yusup Batirmurzaev of Kazakhstan – bounced back to beat Tajikistan’s Farkhod Anakulov 10-0 and took a 125kg bronze.

South Korean Nam Koung-jin snatched the other bronze of the class while Batirmurzaev went on to beat Khuderbulga Dorjkhand of Mongolia 10-0 for the gold.

Mostafa Hosseinkhani, meanwhile, beat Mongolian Sumiyabazar Zandanbud 5-0 for the 74kg joint-bronze – alongside Daichi Takatani of Japan.

Daniyar Kaisanov of Kazakhstan claimed the gold of the category with a 3-1 defeat of the host’s Jitender Jitender.

On the first day of the freestyle event, Iranians had bagged four medals.

Mojtaba Goleij beat the host’s Satywart Kadian 10-0 to claim the 97kg gold, while Amirhossein Ali-Hosseini settled for the 70kg silver after he fell to a 10-6 defeat against Ilyas Bekbulatov of Uzbekistan.

Ali Savadkouhi (79kg) and Amirhossein Maqsoudi (65kg) finished their campaigns with a couple of bronze medals after overcoming Kazakhstani wrestlers Galymzhan Usserbayev and Daulet Niyazbekov respectively.

The Iranian freestyle wrestlers competed in Moscow Christmas competition which was held in Moscow, Russia from December 25 to 28.

Ebrahim Khari (45kg), Ali Arab Firouzjai (48kg) and Hossein Azizi (110kg) claimed three gold medals.

Hossein Asghari won a silver medal at the 92kg.

Ali Gholizadegan (55kg), Hassan Esmaeilnejhad (65kg) and Amir Ali Sabouteh (80kg) seized three bronze medals.

Iran took part in the competition with 11 wrestlers.

Last month at Moscow Prix Games, Iranian freestyle wrestlers Ahmad Bazri and Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian claimed two medals at the Grand Prix Alrosa.
