TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri described a jump in the non-oil exports as a panacea for the country’s economic problems.

In remarks on Monday, Jahangiri said the promotion of non-oil exports is of paramount importance to the country’s economy in the current Iranian year.

All Iranian organizations engaged in the exports must join hands to meet the target of $41 billion in non-oil exports in the current year, he noted.

Describing the non-oil exports as the most important economic driver, the vice president said the expansion of non-oil exports will stimulate growth in production, employment, and supply of currency, and will contribute to the settlement of many problems.

The executive organizations must recognize that their main duty in the current year is to remove the obstacles in the way of promotion of non-oil exports, Jahangiri noted.

In January, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the national income has gone up thanks to a rise in the exports of non-oil goods.

In a new year message in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for a further surge in the national production with the participation of all organizations and sectors, saying, “Officials should act in a way that production will witness a surge, God willing, and that there will be a tangible change in the lives of the people.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The First Vice-President of Iran played down the seriousness of a resolution that the IAEA Board of Governors has adopted on Tehran, saying the Islamic Republic does not attach any significance to such resolutions whose purpose is to mount psychological pressure on Iranians.

In a meeting with a group of Energy Ministry officials on Saturday, Eshaq Jahangiri said the resolutions passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency do not have any “determining role” for Iran.

“Our country which has withstood the harshest pressures from sanctions in various energy, trade, transportation and banking sectors does not place any value on it (the IAEA resolution), and such resolutions won’t have any serious effect on the country’s situation,” he added.

Denouncing the Western states for initiating the anti-Iran resolution in the IAEA Board of Governors, Jahangiri said Westerners seek to portray an insecure psychological atmosphere against the Iranian nation.

“They want to maintain the psychological burden of sanctions in order to worry the people, investors and producers in the country,” the vice president added.

Iran’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Kazem Gharibabadi, has already slammed the IAEA Board of Governors for adopting a resolution against Tehran, saying that Tehran will take “appropriate action” in response.

The resolution, submitted by France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, was adopted by a vote of 25 to 2 with 7 abstentions. It comes at a time when the United States is working to extend an arms embargo against Iran.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi on Monday regretted that the IAEA has chosen to ignore Tehran’s long history of cooperation, warning that a new resolution “would somehow complicate Iran’s cooperation with the agency”.

“The cowardly assassination of Martyr General Soleimani has not changed policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards supporting Syria and the resistance front,” Jahangiri said on Thursday in a phone conversation with the newly-appointed Prime Minister of Syria, Hussein Arnous.

Iran will spare no effort in decreasing pressure on the Syrian people, Jahangiri said.

He noted that resistance of the Syrian people and government have come to fruition as the ‘powerful’ presence of Syria in the Arab world indicates that. These achievements have forced the Israeli regime to wage aggression and intervention in Syrian, he said, highlighting that Iran condemns these violations.

Pointing to his meetings with previous Syrian PM, Jahangiri called for following up on the implementation of earlier agreements between the two countries.

He also urged the international community and especially the United Nations to take practical steps in supporting the Syrian people by providing medicine and basic goods amid the pandemic.

The Vice President wished Arnous success and Syrian people prosperity and security.

Arnous, for his part, appreciated Iran’s support for the Syrian people. He said that Damascus is eager to cement ties with Tehran, adding, “Any issue that would lead to the strengthening of bilateral ties is of importance for the Syrian government.”

In a decree last week, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad replaced Imad Khamis with Hussein Arnous who was earlier Syria’s water resources minister.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri called for plans to develop the infrastructures for the digital economy in Iran, highlighting the role that the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology plays in working towards that goal.

In a meeting with ranking officials from the ICT Ministry on Sunday, the Iranian vice president said the global economy is rapidly moving towards digital computing technologies.

“If we ignore the digital economy, our economy will lag behind the cycle of the world economy, because the global economy is moving towards digitization with rapid acceleration,” Jahangiri added.

Pointing to the worst economic downturn in the world over the past 100 years in the wake of outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the vice president called for efforts to study various social, economic and cultural aspects of the rapidly-changing developments and to identify the relative advantages of the situation, the Iranian government’s official website reported.

He further stressed the need to develop the necessary social and legal infrastructures for the post-coronavirus era, noting that the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology will be the epicenter of all plans and arrangements for the new age.

Paying tribute to the ICT Ministry and the private sectors affiliated with the ministry for their “stellar performance” after the outbreak of COVID-19, Jahangiri said, “All of the country’s development plans and ongoing issues have been affected by the coronavirus today. In other terms, the coronavirus has turned into the main compass for policy-making and management of the country, because during the outbreak of the disease, serious attention must be paid to the health of people and a balance must be created in the other sectors as well, as in the economic sphere.”

Highlighting the key role of the start-ups in fulfilling the digital economy goals, the Iranian vice president emphasized the need for a good investment in the start-ups, knowledge-based companies, and the private sector, which he said must regulate the economy in practice.

He also touched on the leading role of the ICT Ministry in providing distance learning programs after the coronavirus outbreak, saying the influential ministry must also conduct a detailed analysis of the economy in the coming years to devise plans for technical and vocational schemes to attain the digital economy objectives.

Jahangiri further praised the ICT Ministry for formulating space programs, including the recent launch of a homegrown satellite in cooperation with the domestic universities.

“The development and completion of the National Information Network, which is a basic need of the country, could usher in the era of modern governance and administration in the country, by relying on which we could introduce a new administrative system to the country,” he added.

The vice president finally stressed the importance of implementing the electronic government scheme in Iran, saying the ICT Ministry has devised 23 projects with high priority to meet the requirements of an electronic government which is expected to fully come into force by March 2021.

“Development of the electronic government will provide all citizens with online access to broad services, will contribute to transparency and prevent corruption, and could also result in public satisfaction,” Jahangiri concluded.

“Despite maximum psychological and economic pressures, the Americans have failed to zero Iran’s crude exports and we sell crude through different methods,” Jahangiri said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Monday.

He warned that the US has focused its maximum pressure on Iranian people’s living, meantime, saying that the situation in the country is better than what the Americans intended.

“Today, Iran is in danger and the Americans, the Saudis and the Zionists are after knocking Iran out and the only way to confront them is consensus and unity,” Jahangiri said.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has several times since last year said that American officials had admitted their incapability to stop Iran’s crude sales, and the US sanctions would only leave negative impacts on imports of foodstuff, medicine, and medical equipment.

“What the Iranian officials said that the US is not able to zero Iran’s oil exports was proved with the US recent admission,” President Rouhani said after a trilateral meeting with the parliament speaker and judiciary chief in Tehran on November 10, 2018.

“The US announced that it cannot zero Iran’s oil sales because the oil prices will rise to $150; this is what we had said (before). In this region, either Iran’s oil is exported or others will be in trouble as well,” he added.

President Rouhani referred to the US lies that the foodstuff, drugs and medical equipment were exempted from Washington’s sanctions against Iran, and said, “This is incorrect. When the banking system is sanctioned, everything is affected.”

Also, in August, President Rouhani blasted the US economic terrorism which has targeted the ordinary people in Iran, warning that attempts to zero his country’s oil exports may put the international maritime shipping in danger.

“The world powers should know that in case of imposing comprehensive sanctions on Iranian oil and pushing the country’s oil exports down to zero, international sea routes cannot remain as safe as before,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei along with his cabinet members in Tehran.

He added that “unilateral pressures on Iran cannot be in their favor and secure their safety in the region and the world”.

He made the remarks at the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Saturday.

After US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran has declared its readiness to continue talks with the other parties of JCPOA, he said, adding that Iran has begun the process of halting its nuclear commitments in accordance with the JCPOA after a year, declaring that if the other sides fulfill their obligations, Iran will resume its nuclear obligations under the JCPOA again.

Emphasizing Iran’s tendency to regional cooperation, Jahangiri mentioned that regional organizations play an important role in advancing a multilateral approach in the international system and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can be a pioneer in this direction.

He highlighted that Iran is also interested in becoming a key member of the Organization, pointing out that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has a great capacity for economic, political and security cooperation and the member-states of the organization can rely on these capacities, and expand partnerships.

Iran attaches importance to regional and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and establishment of international peace and security, he noted, adding that Iran emphasizes the collective confrontation with this criminal phenomenon and considers its commitment to combating terrorism and striving for a world free of violence and extremism.

the JCPOA was an efficient and successful model of multilateral diplomacy in the framework of Iran’s long and difficult negotiations with six influential world powers, he said.

The current US government withdrew from the JCPOA in an unprecedented way and sought to impose economic sanctions on Iran, through its financial, banking, domestic laws, and technology, to block the economic cooperation of all countries in the world with Iran, Jahangiri added.

The US’ unilateral actions to impose cruel sanctions on the Iranian nation are a clear case of economic terrorism and violations of the international law principles and the United Nations Charter, he highlighted, saying that therefore the international communities are responsible.

Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE) suggested by the President of Iran at the UN General Assembly is a good opportunity to achieve lasting peace, cooperation and partnership among the regional countries, ensuring the security of energy, shipping and world trade with the region, which Iran expects the support of international community and regional organizations from HOPE, Iranian VP said.

Iranian First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri left Tehran for Tashkent City of Uzbekistan on Friday, November 1 in order to attend the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, the creation of which was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
