Iran Federation: Volleyball League to Resume Late October

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Volleyball Super League will resume on October 28, Director of Competition and Events of Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation Shahram Azimi said on Tuesday.

Iran Volleyball Super League was postponed on Oct. 10 due to the third wave of COVID-19.

“We canceled the competition in order to cut chain of coronavirus’ spread but the competition will resume on Oct. 28,” Azimi said, Iranvolleyball.com reported.

The new season started on September 9 and Foolad Sirjan sits top of the table at the end of Matchday 7.

The daily death toll from coronavirus infection in Iran has exceeded 200 in recent days, while the total number of cases since the outbreak of the disease in the country has surpassed 500,000.

More than 29,000 COVID-19 patients have died in Iran since February.

Iran Volleyball Head Positive about Hosting U19 World Championship

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Mohammadreza Davarzani, the head of Iran Volleyball Federation, said he is “99 percent” positive the country will be named the host of the FIVB U19 World Championship in 2021.

Davarzani, however, added that the country withdrew its bid to host the U21 world championship next year.

The international volleyball governing body has called off all global events in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at the annual assembly of the federation on Saturday, which was held online, Davarzani said, “The FIVB offered us to jointly host the preliminary rounds of the U21 championship with Italy – before the finals in the European country – which was not financially justifiable for the federation, so we had to withdraw our bid.

“But I’m 99 percent sure the U19 volleyball competition will be held in Iran.”

The exact dates of next year’s competitions are yet to be announced by the FIVB.

When asked who would be named Iran’s new head coach, the Iranian official said, “The Olympics are of great importance for us and the federation will make the best decision – regarding the national head coach in due time.”

Iran will play in next year’s Olympics in Tokyo, having finished fifth in its first-ever appearance in the Games in 2016.

The Iranian federation parted ways with ex-manager Igor Kolaković earlier this year after the Montenegrin led Iran to its third Asian title last September.

According To Iran News, Iran volleyball federation is not going to continue its cooperation with Igor Kolakovic.

The Montenegrin coach was supposed to head Iran at the 2020 Olympic Games but the games have been postponed to 2021.

Local media report that the two sides will cease to associate with each other.

Iran volleyball federation has yet to confirm this.

The 2020 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) has also been postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Davarzani assigned to Iran volleyball federation presidency

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Mohammadreza Davarzani has been elected as the new president of Iran’s Volleyball Federation on Wednesday.

Davarzani has been elected for a four-year term till 2023 by receiving 26 votes out of 41 votes in the presidential elections held at Iran’s Academy Olympic.

Former Iran opposite Behnam Mahmoudi finished in second place with 15 votes.

Ahmad Ziaei left his post last year due to a law barring the employment of retirees in government, state or public institutions which use state funds or facilities.

The federation was headed by Afshin Davari and Ali Fattahi as interim chiefs during the last year.

Iran volleyball team prepares for the AVC Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament. This tour will be held in Jiangmen, China from January 7 to 12, 2020.

The top eight teams will participate at the tournament and the winners will qualify for the Games.

Ahmad Ziaei new president of Iran volleyball federation

TEHRAN – Ahmad Ziaei has been elected as new president of Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF) on Thursday.

In the election held at the Iran’s Academy Olympic in Tehran, Ziaei took charge of IRIVF for a four-year term until 2021.

Ziaei, a member of IRIVF board, won 43 votes out of 44 votes to take charge the federation.

He succeeded Mohammadreza Davarzani, who stepped down as president of the volleyball federation after 11 years to be appointed as deputy of Iran’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mohammad Taghi Hassanizadeh secured just one vote.
