TEHRAN (Iran News) – A member of board of directors of Iran-Ukraine Joint Chamber of Commerce says in case war breaks out in Ukraine, the trade between Iran and Ukraine will come to a halt.

Speaking to ILNA, Seyed Reza Noorani said that many Iranian companies have received big plots of land in Ukraine and they are busy in production of wheat and grains.

Talking about the latest trade condition between Iran and Ukraine and possible war in Ukraine, Noorani said that Ukraine is not a major destination for Iran’s agro product exports and in case war breaks out in Ukraine, like any other war-hit countries the exports and trade will halt until the war ends.

He said he believes that Russia-Ukraine war will be political than economic and if the war breaks out it will not last too long. He added that therefore due to the political nature of the war and due to its likely short period, there will have no major impact on Iran-Ukraine trade in the long term.

Noorani went on to say that before anything happens in Ukraine, the price of oil has soared and it has affected the final cost of the products and in case war starts, the first pressure of the final cost will be on the transportation cost which will be multiplied due to the unsafe roads in the war-hit areas and the cost of transportation with ship will also increase because of the rise in the fuel price.

He reiterated that if war happens, Iran’s trade with Russia will also be overshadowed although the trade exchange with other Eurasian Union states may continue as before.

Noorani went on to say that one of the important developments in trade between Iran and Ukraine in recent years has been the start of extraterrestrial farming of Iranians in Ukraine, adding that many big Iranian companies in Ukraine have received large plots of land for farming and production of wheat and grains, adding that Ukraine has considerable amount of chernozem and fertile lands, and in farming the amount of consumed fertilizer is low and products are organic.

He stated that there is also good cooperation in industrial sector between Iran and Ukraine and there is joint chamber of commerce both in Iran and Ukraine and the economic connection of the two countries via the chambers can increase, expressing hope that the domestic policies would be in a way that promoting exports would play the first role.

This year Iran’s imports from Ukraine have been around $111.7m while exports have been only $48m. The trade volume is around $160.3m which shows 76% growth comparing to last year.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Private sectors of Iran, Ukraine hold online meeting to discuss trade. Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) held an online specialized meeting in collaboration with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) to explore ways of expanding trade ties between the two countries.

The virtual event was attended by the head of the two countries’ chambers of commerce, the head of Iran-Ukraine Joint Chamber of Commerce, as well as officials and private sector representatives from both sides, the ICCIMA portal reported.

Cooperation in the agriculture sector was the main focus of the mentioned event since most of the trade exchanges between the two countries in the previous year were related to agricultural products.

Speaking in the meeting, ICCIMA Head Gholam-Hossein Shafeie called the meeting a new beginning for trade talks between the private sectors of the two countries and stated: “This is the first specialized meeting between businessmen of the two countries, and due to the high capacities of the two countries in the agriculture sector, we dedicated this meeting to this field.”

Referring to the close relations between the two countries’ chambers of commerce and the exchanges of trade delegations in the past, Shafeie praised the activities of the Iran-Ukraine Joint Chamber of Commerce and its impact on the future of trade between the two countries.

According to the official, unfortunately, in recent years, restrictions imposed by the U.S. sanctions on Iran have negatively affected the two countries’ trade with each other, mainly due to problems with financial exchanges.

“One of the best solutions for increasing the volume of trade between the two countries is a serious focus on the agriculture sector,” he stressed.

Gennadiy Chyzhykov, the UCCI president, for his part expressed satisfaction with the appropriate level of cooperation between the two countries’ chambers of commerce.

He referred to a memorandum of understanding signed between the two chambers in 2017, and said: “This cooperation has been established according to the 2017 memorandum and fortunately, is still ongoing.”

Chyzhykov put the level of trade between the two countries in the previous year at about $400 million, noting that 95 percent of the mentioned figure was allocated to agricultural products.

“This indicates the significant role of the agricultural sector in relations between Iran and Ukraine,” he added.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the Head of Iran-Ukraine Joint Chamber of Commerce Hamidreza Ghadi stressed the need for promoting barter trade between the two countries as a good way for boosting the two sides’ trade level.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Ukraine officials trying to politicize plane crash through unconstructive, unacceptable allegations. A high-ranking Iranian security official tells Press TV that allegations made by Ukrainian officials about accidental shooting down of a passenger plane over Iran’s sky are unconstructive, as they are trying to politicize the case.

Keyvan Khosravi, the spokesman for Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), made the remarks in a Monday interview with Press TV, saying that the plane’s black boxes were one of the main sources of information used to compile the final report of an investigation over accidental shooting down of the Ukrainian plane by Iranian air defense forces in January 2020.

Asked about recent remarks by an informed Iranian official, who said Ukraine is trying to attribute the incident to problems with the Russian Tor-M1 missile system, Khosravi declined to answer that question, but said, “Unfortunately, Ukrainian officials are trying to ascribe false allegations to Iranian officials in order to politicize this case, and their recent allegations in this regard are by no means constructive and acceptable.”

The official mentioned Iran’s all-out cooperation with Ukraine to clarify various aspects of this incident, saying, “Since the inception of this bitter incident, we have accepted all demands put forth by Ukrainian government, which at times went beyond what was necessary under usual circumstances, so that, there would remain no dark corner in the efforts made to shed light on the truth in this incident.”

“Sending the plane’s black boxes to France to decode their contents is the most important reason that proves Iran’s transparency and honesty in its effort to bring to light all details about this incident,” Khosravi said.

Khosravi described efforts made to take political advantage “of a bitter incident, which is related to sentiments of scores of bereft families” as “regrettable and inhuman,” adding, “Various independent expert groups have delved into all the existing hypotheses about targeting of the Ukrainian plane.”

All those groups, the Iranian official said, “have asserted categorically and based on technical and expert evidence that this incident has been unintentional and a result of human error.”

“So far, no foreign authority has offered any other technical reason to dismiss or even undermine Iran’s expert report [on this incident] and [some parties] are merely trying to mount political pressure on Iran by creating [an adverse] media atmosphere and provoking sentiments of the families of this incident’s martyrs,” Iran’s security official said.

Khosravi concluded by saying that judicial measures are underway in hearing of culprits of this bitter incident and their punishment will be soon meted out through the competent court.

On January 8, 2020, the Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752, en route to Kiev and carrying mostly Iranians, crashed minutes after takeoff near the Iranian capital, killing all the 176 on board.

The plane was shot down by Iran’s air defenses, which mistook the aircraft for a military target amid tensions between Tehran and Washington following the US assassination of top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in Iraq days earlier.

On Saturday, An informed official close to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said Ukraine has been trying to politicize the January 2020 accidental downing of its passenger plane in an attempt to mount pressure on Russia amid tensions between the two neighbors.

The official, whose name was not released, told Nour News on Sunday that Ukrainian officials had offered that Iran announce a technical glitch in its Russian-made Tor-M1 anti-aircraft defense system as the cause of the tragedy.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh dismissed a claim by Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s national security and defense council, that the crash was “intentional and conscious attack.”

Danilov had told Canadian daily The Globe and Mail earlier in the day that “when they claim it was accidental…I don’t buy that.” He described the incident as “intentional” and a “conscious attack.”

In response, Khatibzadeh said “despite all the explanations as well as technical and expert reports [on the incident], Ukrainian officials continue making vague, political remarks,” expressing regret that “they present their imaginary and commissioned theories through media.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s foreign minister stressed the significance of cooperation among all involved parties for the success of an ongoing talks over the unintentional shooting down of a Ukrainian plane by the Iranian air defense in January.

Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in a meeting on Monday in Tehran with the visiting Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevheniy Yenin, Press TV reported.

During the meeting, Zarif described the first round of talks between the two countries over the plane crash as “positive and constructive.”

He expressed hope that the negotiations for the settlement of the case would reach a desirable result through cooperation and coordination between Tehran and Kiev.

With 167 passengers and nine crewmembers on board, Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 crashed outside Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on January 8, moments after take-off.

Iranian authorities acknowledged that the plane had been downed due to human error at a time when Iran’s air defenses were on high alert due to increased hostile American aerial activity in the aftermath of Iran’s missile strike on an Iraqi military base, which houses US-led coalition forces in the Arab country.

The missile strike came after terrorist American forces assassinated Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), along with his companions, outside Baghdad International Airport on direct order from US President Donald Trump.

Following the incident, the plane’s black box was analyzed at the Civil Aviation Investigation Bureau in France and representatives from the US, Ukraine, France, Canada, Britain and Sweden — the countries whose citizens lost their lives in the crash — were present during the process.

Earlier on Monday, the Ukrainian delegation met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohsen Baharvand.

During the meeting, the head of the Iranian delegation expressed his condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash, saying, “The Ukrainian plane was struck due to a human error and the Islamic Republic of Iran will try to reassure the Ukrainian side.”

The Iranian deputy foreign minister also underlined the determination of the Islamic Republic to prosecute and punish the perpetrators, to establish justice and to compensate the survivors.

The Ukrainian diplomat thanked the Islamic Republic for its warm welcome despite the coronavirus outbreak, and praised as positive the assessment of the first round of talks in Kiev as well as the cooperation and efforts of the Islamic Republic in administering justice.

The second round of negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ukraine about the Ukrainian plane crash began in Tehran on Monday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for International and Legal Affairs Mohsen Baharvand, who heads the Iranian delegation, and by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevgheniy Yenin, head of the Ukrainian delegation.

The participants started Monday’s negotiations with a minute’s silence to honor the victims of the plane crash.

In the gathering, the head of the Iranian delegation expressed sympathy with the families of victims of the plane crash, saying, “The Ukrainian plane was shot due to human error, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will try to assure the Ukrainian side of this as well.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s stance is based upon transparency, as it has nothing to hide about this incident and is ready to genuinely inform the Ukrainian people and delegation about details of the incident,” Baharvand stated.

Iran and Ukraine are two friends that have sadly experienced such an incident, he said, adding that the two countries should now reach an agreement at the negotiating table.

Baharvand also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to take punitive action and punish those at fault, ensure justice, and pay compensation to the families of victims.

For his part, the Ukrainian deputy foreign minister commended Iran for its warm welcome despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, hailed as positive the first round of negotiations in Kiev, and praised Iran for its cooperation and efforts to ensure justice.

The expert negotiations between Iran and Ukraine about the plane crash will go on for two days.

The Kiev-bound UIA Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, killing all 176 people on board, mostly Iranian and Canadian citizens.

Iran said the plane was hit by an anti-aircraft missile due to human error.
