Iran has exported commodities worth about $1 billion during the first three months of this year, Farzad Piltan, an official with Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization said.

He also said that Iran’s quarterly export of products to the UAE saw a 40-percent growth in terms of weight to stand at 3.4 million tons.

Iran and United Arab Emirates (UAE) resumed bilateral trade exchange via sea, Fars news agency reported on June 5, quoting the ports affairs director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

Increasing non-oil exports to the neighboring countries are one of the major plans that the Iranian government is pursuing in the current Iranian calendar year.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A new report shows that China, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are respectively the top trade destinations of Iran exports in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-October 22).

The Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture released the statistics for the first seven months of the current Iranian year, suggesting that 58 percent of Iranian exports were to China, Iraq, and the UAE, reported Fars News Agency.

The report added that Turkey and Afghanistan were the fourth and fifth top trade destinations of goods exported from Iran during that period, accounting for 14 percent of the total exports.

On Thursday, the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), Hamid Zadboum, announced that plans have been made to boost the annual export of non-oil goods to the neighboring countries.

“We exported $24 billion worth of goods to neighboring states last year and we have made up our minds to raise the figure,” Zadboum said, addressing a seminar honoring top exporters in Hamedan Province.

He said that exports were the blood in our foreign trade arteries, and if there were no export earnings, we would not be able to buy the required industrial items.

In early October, Iran’s Economy Minister Farhad Dejpasand said that Iran exported more than $60 billion worth of non-oil goods during the past year and a half.

“Iran’s non-oil exports reached $61 billion over the past 18 months,” Dejpasand said.

He added that only $27 billion were repatriated, that is, 45 percent of the total sum.

Iran obliged exporters several months ago to repatriate their forex revenues in a bid to resuscitate the country’s economy.

Dispatching commercial envoy to UAE has been put atop agenda of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), he added. Iran News quotes the reports of Iran-UAE commerces by MNA.

He went on to say that sending commercial envoy to neighboring countries will be prioritized.

At the condition that Iran has focused on doing trade and business with neighboring states due to the US unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran, he stated, “in the current situation, the role of commercial envoys has been highlighted more than before.”

Commercial envoys play a leading role for introducing economic capacities of the country in host country and also promoting bilateral trade and business growth, he added.

Although TPOI officials have announced that sending commercial envoy to 15 neighboring countries is prioritized, situation of commercial envoys has yet to be organized, Zaadboom added.

Regarding to Iran-UAE commerces, in August Farzanegan, the chairman of Iran-UAE joint chamber of commerce, has pointed out that out of the 3.5 million Dubai population 600,000 are Iranians, putting the number of Iranian companies operating in Dubai as 6,000 and the number of Iranian merchants working with the major Emirati city at 8,000.

The Iranian official further described Expo 2020 Dubai as a great opportunity for Iranian companies to showcase their products.
