In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev voiced readiness to boost the trade exchanges via the Caspian Sea, saying the road ministers of the two sides are tasked with pursuing the initiative.

They also deplored the illegal US sanctions that have adversely affected the lives of people amid the outbreak of the coronavirus and called for the removal of the sanctions.

Citing the numerous problems that the coronavirus pandemic has created in the world, the two presidents emphasized the necessity of sharing experiences in the fight against the contagious disease.

Rouhani and Tokayev also agreed that the health ministries of Iran and Kazakhstan would promote mutual cooperation in the battle with COVID-19, considering the Iranian export of medical supplies such as ventilators, N95 masks, and serology testing kits for the coronavirus.

In the conversation, the Iranian president said a barter system for the exchange of commodities would strengthen the process of bilateral trade between the two nations.

“Iran is prepared for the launch of this mechanism between the two countries,” he added.

Rouhani also stressed the need to remove the obstacles to the road and rail freight for transportation of cargoes between the two countries, strengthen the banking cooperation, and finalize an agreement on facilitating the visa application process for the travelers and business people of the two countries.

He also hailed the economic relations between Iran and Kazakhstan and their mutual cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, adding, “I hope we will properly enhance the relations between the two countries after overcoming the coronavirus and even in the current conditions in compliance with the health instructions.”

In May 2018, Iran signed an agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union members -Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia- in Kazakhstan.

Once the free trade zone comes into force, the EAEU will grant Iran tariff concessions on hundreds of items.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s first private port facilities on Caspian Sea shores is to open after nearly 15 years of planning and construction, said Allahyar Asadi, who heads Ports and Maritime Organization of Golestan Province.

The official said that construction of two main breakwaters at Khajeh Nafas Port was nearing its final stages, allowing officials to inaugurate the facility in the near future, Press TV reported.

He said that once open, Iran’s first private port would significantly boost maritime transportation alongside the eastern coast of the sea while it would lead to a major economic boom in the Golestan region.

Most of Iran’s trade through the Caspian Sea is processed via the western and central coasts of the enclosed body of water and in the provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran.

Golestan, which borders Turkmenistan, is the main agriculture hub in the region and a key gateway to Central Asian countries.

Planning Khajeh Nafas began in 2005 when government authorities sought to create more jobs in the region through more exchanges with Russia and also Kazakhstan, a country which is becoming a transit route for Chinese cargoes seeking to reach Europe.

Golestan Governor Hadi Haqshenas told IRNA on Sunday that Khajeh Nafas will soon begin processing large cargoes with a first ship carrying timber due to arrive at the port in the near future.

Haqshenas said the private owner of the port had made an initial investment of around $9 million for the 176-hectare port, which is located around 10 kilometers from the city of Bandar Torkaman and 50 kilometers from the provincial capital of Gorgan.

He said the port would be capable of accommodating ships with a maximum of 5,000 tons of cargo in its first phase of operation.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Iran Levan Dzhagaryan said on Sunday that Iran-Russia relations and cooperations do not need the US’ permission.

Naming his country independent, in an interview with the Press TV, the envoy underlined that Russia does not need the permission of the US or any other country for continuing ties with Iran.

He evaluated Iran-Russia future relations positive saying that “the Presidents of the two countries will regularly meet each other on various occasions and discuss different issues.”

“Fortunately, we are witnessing various mutual agreements signed on economy, politics, and culture,” he added.

Addressing the probable measure of the US and its allies for referring Iran’s file to the UN Security Council, Dzhagaryan said “Russia, China, and other European countries will try to prevent this negative scenario. The whole world knows that this treaty is in jeopardy, and the only country responsible for the disaster is the US. We condemn the US’ withdrawal from this international agreement. The Americans violated international law in this respect, and Iran was forced to take required action because it had no other choice. The JCPOA provided no interests for Iran.”

The Russian ambassador reiterated that his country will continue its cooperation with Iran on the construction of nuclear sites in Bushehr as well as other projects including electrification of Garmsar-Incheboroun railway, establishment of a thermal power plant in Hormozgan province and etc.

Rejecting the US statements claiming that Iran-China-Russia cooperation will ignite another war in the region, he said: “they are baseless accusations since it was the US who led Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan into wars.”

“I suggest Americans to have a look back to their measures in the past years to find out which country puts regional security at risk,” he added.
