TEHRAN (Iran News) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani held talks with top officials in Baghdad, including Chief of Iraq’s Intelligence Service (IIS) Mustafa al-Kazemi, about issues of mutual interest.

In the meeting with Kazemi on Sunday, Shamkhani pointed to the US government’s recent move to assassinate Iranian and Iraqi commanders and said the “cowardly assassination” of the commanders of the Resistance Axis, Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muahdis, was the outcome of a strategic mistake by US President Donald Trump and “the evil team” in the White House.

“The countdown to the expulsion of America from the region began in the early morning of Friday, Jan. 3,” he added, referring to the day when a US drone attack in Baghdad killed the two commanders and a number of their companions.

Shamkhani further emphasized that the participation of millions of people in historic rallies against US military presence in Iraq proved that the Arab nation is the flag-bearer of ousting the US from West Asia.

Kazemi, for his part, expressed his gratitude to Iran for playing an effective role in combatting terrorism and boosting stability and security in the region.

Later on Sunday, Shamkhani met with some other Iraqi political officials, including Leader of National Wisdom Movement Seyed Ammar al-Hakim and Hadi al-Ameri, the head, and secretary-general of the Badr Organization.

Heading a high-ranking political and security delegation, Shamkhani arrived in Baghdad on Saturday for a two-day visit that included negotiations with senior Iraqi officials on regional developments and on Tehran-Baghdad relations.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian security forces have managed to apprehend members of a major criminal network that has been earning huge profits by tax evasion and money laundering, the head of the Judiciary in the northern province of Golestan said.

Speaking to reporters in Gorgan, the provincial capital, on Sunday, Hadi Hashemian said the members of the money laundering network, which had a turnover of some 300 trillion rials over the past six years, have been identified and arrested.

The gang included 3 ringleaders and 6 accomplices, all of whom were arrested, he said, adding that 300 other members of the network have been doing fraudulent activities in the provinces of Golestan, Tehran, and Semnan.

More than 100 light and heavy vehicles of this money laundering network and 20 kilograms of gold bars have been discovered and seized from the ring so far, the official stated.

He went on to say that investigation into the case will continue as efforts are underway to identify the defendants’ properties.

Back in January, the Intelligence Ministry forces in the province of Qazvin arrested 12 members of a network on charges of disrupting the country’s currency market, smuggling currency through illegal trades, tax evasion and money laundering.

The network had been doing fraudulent activities in the provinces of Qazvin, Tehran and Mazandaran. Its ringleader was also detained before fleeing the country.

In another operation, the Intelligence Ministry forces captured 13 individuals in the province of East Azarbaijan for disrupting the country’s currency market. A number of them were arrested before crossing the border with fake ID cards.

The network received subsidized foreign currency with business certificates of sham companies.

Also in December 2018, the Intelligence Ministry arrested members of another major network that had swindled the country’s banks out of millions of euros by infiltrating into the banking system.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the intelligence supremacy of the Islamic Republic acts as a deterrent and provides the Iranian society with a sense of security and tranquility.

Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks on intelligence supremacy on Wednesday when he also made a reference to the arrest of Ruhollah Zam, the operator behind Amad News website and Telegram channel.

“The arrest of the head of Amad News channel was the result of precise and wise planning which further increased security and hope in the heart of people and frightened the enemies,” General Salami said, Fars reported.

He also hailed the IRGC intelligence organization for carrying out the operation to arrest Zam and other operations which have strengthened Iran’s security.

Last month, the IRGC announced that Zam had been arrested during a complicated intelligence operation.

Zam launched Amad News in 2015. The channel frequently posted fake news stories and called for violence with the aim of overthrowing the Islamic Republic system.

During the protest rallies in December 2018, he urged the people to take arms against the government.

In its statement, the IRGC said it lured Zam into Iran using “clever, multidimensional and innovative tricks”, which even deceived foreign intelligence agencies.

The IRGC also said the French intelligence service was behind Zam’s activities, which were also backed by the U.S. and the Zionist regime’s spy services.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mojtaba Zonnour reiterated the country’s unwavering policy on Syria and said the Islamic Republic will continue supporting Syria against terrorists.

Speaking at a meeting with Speaker of the People’s Council of Syria Hammouda Youssef Sabbagh in Damascus on Wednesday, Zonnour pointed to close ties between Iran and Syria and said, “Religious, historical, cultural, and social commonalities between the two nations have led to strong and deeply intertwined political, economic and cultural interaction.”

He further highlighted the important role of the two countries’ parliaments in advancing their strategic goals and said mutual parliamentary cooperation has had a major role in cementing the ties.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers supporting the Axis of Resistance as a human duty and will continue to side with Syria in the fight against terrorist groups,” the lawmaker stated.

Sabbagh, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran for its all-out support for the Syrian people and government and said the sacrifices of the Iranians helping the Syrian army have led to the victories over the enemies.

Since the outbreak of war and foreign militancy in Syria in 2011, Iran has stood by the Syrian government and supported its people against terrorist groups, including ISIS.

In recent months, the Syrian army has managed to liberate many of the areas occupied by terrorists and has begun the reconstruction process.

Back in January, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri traveled to Syria with a 40-strong political and business delegation, during which the two sides inked 11 agreements.

In December 2018, Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud said his country gives priority to Iran for carrying out projects in the reconstruction process of Syria after years of war.

In September 2017, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York that Iran would assist the Syrian nation in reconstructing their country after the war, in the same way, that it contributed to the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Arab state amid the crisis.
