Rouhani Inaugurates Urban Development Plans

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Inauguration ceremony of domestic projects of Ministry of Roads and Urban Development is held in the presence of Iran’s outgoing President Hassan Rouhani.

In the last weeks of tenure by the government of prudence and hope, President Rouhani took part in the 86th inaugural ceremony of production jump projects via video conference on Thursday.

The president inaugurated railroads and freeways in Yazd, Fars, Zanjan, Qazvin, Isfahan, Alborz and Mazandaran provinces worth of 2.6 million dollars.

The first project among the Thursday’s ceremony is the test driving through Alborz tunnel, which is the longest tunnel in the Middle East. The 9 kilometer-long tunnel is located in the second section of Tehran-Shomal freeway.

The Yazd-Eghlid railway is another project, which crosses through Abarkooh and creates a railroad link to Yasuj, capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province. The Yazd-Eghlid railway covers 270 kilometers and helps better and fast transport of industrial, agricultural and mineral products.

The administration of President Rouhani has attempted to complete railroad transit in northeast to southwest as well as southeast to southwest of Iran.

It is expected that the railway transports four million tons of commodities and one million passengers in the first year after it becomes operational.

President Rouhani also inaugurated the railway track laying of Khash-Zahedan railway on Thursday, which is a part of Chabahar-Zahedan railway. Another project is the inauguration of Bostanabad-Khavaran railway in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan province.

Addressing the ceremony, Rouhani honored the opening of hundreds of kilometers of railway communication projects in one day.

He said: “Today, despite the difficult conditions caused by the economic war and the pandemic, we witnessed the opening of crucial projects in the field of railways and freeways in different provinces of the country, which is glorious.”

He stated that the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development made great efforts and measures in railway development and highways and communication roads during his administration, which is commendable.

He also underlined that in the Ghadir Khumm event, the issue of governance was put forward; so, the event is considered as the beginning of continuity of the Islamic government of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He added, “I simulate the day of Ghadir to the migration of Prophet of Islam from Mecca to Medina.”

The Prophet invited people to the holy religion of Islam in Mecca, but He initiated the Islamic government in Medina; so, the migration is being translated into the start of the Islamic government, Rouhani noted.

The president called Ghadir Khummm event as the second big movement, saying that the issue of governance is being raised in Ghadir event once more, and that the migration to Medina formed the start of the Islamic government and Ghadir was the beginning of the continuity of the Islamic government.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) raised Imam Ali’s hand and said: ‘Of whomsoever I am a master, Ali is his master,’ Rouhani noted, adding that the Prophet told the audience in the Ghadir Khumm event that who are credible to rule in Islamic world.

Iran Opens New Energy Projects, Worthing $100m

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday opened 10 new major energy projects with an investment of 19 trillion rials (nearly 100 million) as his government presses ahead with finishing key infrastructure facilities across the country.

Using a videoconference call, Rouhani ordered the opening of nine electricity and water projects in the southern province of Fars as well as a large dam in the western province of Kermanshah, Press TV reported.

Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said that the projects opened in Fars included six solar farms with a total generation capacity of 33 megawatts (289-gigawatt hours of power per year).

All those renewable power plants have been built by private investors, said Ardakanian while adding that Iran is moving fast to develop its renewable sector by attracting nearly 143 trillion rials ($715 million) in new private investment.

Other projects opened in Fars included a huge water treatment facility in the provincial capital of Shiraz. The facility will rely on a modern pumping station as well as a major sewage plant to facilitate water management operations in the largest city in southern Iran, said Ardakanian.

Rouhani also gave the go-ahead for the start of work at Sharafshah Dam, a large reservoir meant to provide clean water to people in two border cities near Iraq.

Ardakanian said farming activities in Kermanshah’s border regions would also benefit from the opening of the 131-million-liter dam as it would provide irrigation for nearly 4,800 hectares of land in the region.

Iran has kept developing its massive energy infrastructure despite a series of American sanctions that have caused a decline in government revenues.

The government has spent billions of dollars to finish dozens of power plants, water, and sewage facilities and hydroelectric dams across Iran since the US imposed its sanctions on the country in 2018.

Iran Expects UNIDO Participation in industrial projects

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran Barat Ghobadian said that Iran expects UNIDO to fulfill its responsibility for the industrial development of UN members and to actively participate in Iran’s industrial development projects.

He made the remarks on Monday at the 18th session of the General Conference of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which started in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 3 November.

Iran has many capabilities and capacities in various sectors including human resources, natural resources, and infrastructure, he said.

One of Iran’s main goals is to help domestic companies in different industries to collaborate with international companies and organizations for technology exchange, he mentioned, adding that Iran is ready to cooperate with other developing countries in the industrial, technical and engineering sectors.

Ghobadian noted that industry is one of the most important sectors of the economy as well as the basis of growth and development of any country, emphasizing that it is impossible to achieve economic development without achieving industrial development first.

Referring to the eagerness of foreign companies and investors after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to cooperate with Iranian Industrial companies, he said that unfortunately, the opportunities were affected by US illegal behavior and unilateral actions against Iran.

The unilateral withdrawal of the US from JCPOA and re-imposition of illegal sanctions against Iran have had a devastating effect on foreign investment in Iran’s industrial sector, he added.

Accordingly, Iran expects UNIDO to completely fulfill its responsibility for the industrial development of the UN members, including Iran, Ghobadian mentioned.

The General Conference is UNIDO’s supreme policy-making organ where all member states meet once every two years. It determines the guiding principles and policies of the Organization and approves the budget and work program of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Iranian delegation consisting of ambassador to the IAEA, Kazem Gharib-Abadi, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Barat Ghobadian, and Director General of the Office for Industrial Property at the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade Seyyed Mehdi Mirsalihi participated at the 18th session of the General Conference of UNIDO.
