TEHRAN (Iran News) During a meeting with police commanders and officials in the southern province of Hormozgan on Wednesday, Brigadier General Radan said, “The significant discoveries we’ve made are the result of targeted planning, intelligence oversight, operational cohesion, and decisive action by police and border guard units.”

He added, “In our fight against organized smuggling gangs, successful operations have been carried out that have dealt a severe blow to these networks.”

Radan noted, “Today, thanks to enhanced equipment capabilities, the development of new technologies, and the operational readiness of our forces, we are witnessing a new phase of intelligent combat against smuggling in Hormozgan.”

Fuel, especially diesel, is being smuggled out of the country through cities bordering Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkiye, according to officials. Hossein Rahimi, the head of Iran’s Economic Security Police, said that around 21 million liters of petrol and diesel are smuggled out daily.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The chief commander of Law Enforcement has said all the enemies’ plots against the country’s security have been neutralized and the country is enjoying a high level of security now.

Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, the commander of Iran’s Law Enforcement made the remarks in a meeting with the security authorities and police officers in the southern province of Bushehr.

Ashtari described ensuring the security of a country as a top priority for any government in the world and added that security lays the ground for a country’s development.

“Since the beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the enemies of the Establishment have sought to create instability in Islamic Iran,” the police commander-in-chief said.

He recalled the anniversary of the failed US Tabas Operation on 24 April 1980 in Iran, saying “in order to inflict a blow on the newly established Islamic Republic, the United States planned an attack on 24 April 1980 to overthrow the establishment, without the knowledge of the security, military and Law Enforcement apparatuses, which was defeated at God Almighty’s will in the Tabas desert.”

Ashtari also said that at the end of the eight-year of Iraqi imposed war on Iran between 1980-1988, the Iranian nation came out victorious under the leadership of the late Imam Khomeini.

The police commander-in-chief also said that resistance forces in the region have thwarted all the American and Zionist plots against security in regional countries.

He concluded by saying that now the country is enjoying the highest level of security at God’s will and under the leadership of the commander-in-chief of all armed forces Ayatollah Khamanei, adding that all the threats against the country’s security have been neutralized through the cooperation of all security and intelligence forces.

The incident occurred Friday at Mellat Park, in the north of the capital, during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, Tehran’s Police Chief General Hossein Rahimi told ISNA.

“Unfortunately, some people started to wave the Taliban flag during this gathering,” he said, adding that Afghan nationals attend such events each year, according to AFP.

ISNA said pictures of the gathering were posted on social media and that some had claimed it involved members of the Taliban group.

It came during a three-day cease-fire in Afghanistan between the Taliban and Afghan security forces over the Muslim festival which ended on Sunday.

According to Rahimi, five of those arrested following investigations had “produced the flag, taken pictures and video and given them to hostile media”.

The rest were “mostly illegal nationals who are being deported”.

According to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, about 3.5 million Afghans, including almost one million refugees, live in Iran.

In a meeting in the province of Sistan and Balouchestan, IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour and Border Police Commander General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi stressed the need for close coordination between their forces to ensure sustainable security in the border areas.

Highlighting the Border Police’s operations against drug traffickers, armed outlaws, and terrorist groups in the large province, General Goodarzi said any source of insecurity along the southeastern border would be tackled harshly.

General Pakpour said security prevails across the southeastern border regions, adding that closer cooperation between the IRGC and the Border Police would assure the local residents of security and frighten hostile and terrorist groups in those areas.

The Iranian Police and security forces have been quite successful in ensuring security in the large province Sistan and Balouchestan despite its long borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, harsh weather and vast desert areas.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.

Some 2.954 tons of illicit drugs consisting of 2.469 tons of opium and 485 kilograms of hashish have been busted during the clash between the police border guards and the gang during the operation in addition to confiscation of a large number of weapons and ammunition, he added.

Iran is at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking and thousands of Iranian forces have been so far martyred to protect the world from the danger of drugs.

According to reports we reached, in 2018 alone, Iranian forces carried out 1,557 operations against drug traffickers, seizing approximately 807 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and drugs.

Commander of Sistan and Baluchestan Border police Guards Colonel Mohammad Mollashahi said on Monday that some 834 kilograms of narcotics were seized in two separate operations in the province, one in Saravan.

Some 505 kilograms of opium were confiscated last night when the police force entered a gun battle with a gang attempting to smuggle the drugs into the country through the southern border, he said.

According to Mollashahi, the smugglers escaped using the darkness of the night.

Following a series of intelligence operations, 304 kilograms hashish and 30 kilograms opium were seized in another operation, he said.

Three smugglers have been arrested in this regard and handed over to the judicial officials and two vehicles along with a number of different weapons were captured, he added.

Over 20 tons of different illicit drugs were captured in Sistan and Baluchestan province during the past month.

The Islamic Republic has been actively fighting drug-trafficking over the past three decades, despite its high economic and human costs. The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Iranian police officers over the past four decades. The country has spent more than hundreds of millions of dollars on sealing its borders and preventing the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries.

Iran Police Successfully Handled Recent Riots, Commander Says

Iranian Police Commander Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari highlighted his forces’ preparedness to counter any security threat and said the police were not taken by surprise during recent riots in a number of cities in the country.

In a speech in Tehran on Monday, Brigadier General Ashtari described the recent riots as a conspiracy hatched by the US, the Zionist regime of Israel and some Arab states and said thanks to the wisdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the “heroic” presence of the people on the scene, the conspiracy was foiled.

“In controlling unrest and protests, our red line is the security of the people, protection of public property and restoration of order …,” he stated.

The commander further emphasized the necessity to maintain the preparedness and vigilance of all police units.

“In recent incidents, the rioters were seeking to destroy (public properties) but police forces were not surprised and with full preparedness were present in all scenes and handled the unrest,” Brigadier General Ashtari stated.

Following a hike in the price of gasoline last month, a number of Iranian cities saw sporadic protests that turned violent in some cases. A number of banks and government buildings were set ablaze.

Meanwhile, anti-Iranian media outlets as well as some Western officials, including US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, voiced their support for the rioters who took advantage of the protests in a number of Iranian cities.

In an address on November 17, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned that the sporadic protests and acts of vandalism in Iran would create insecurity.

Describing insecurity as the worst calamity for society, the Leader said that “all evil centers in the world” have mobilized efforts in recent days to encourage unrest in Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei also called on the Iranian authorities to be careful that the rise in the price of fuel would not increase the price of other commodities.

The Leader also called on the people to separate themselves from a group of thugs who are encouraged by the foreign-based anti-Iranian front to foment insecurity.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Five hundred kilograms of narcotic cargo have been seized in Omidiyeh, Khuzestan province, according to Omidiyeh’s prosecutor general.

Following large-scale intelligence operations, police forces seized 500 kilograms opium in Omidiyeh which was destined to Ahwaz, Mehr quoted Arsalan Karimi as saying on Saturday.

Karimi added that two drug smugglers were arrested and handed over to court.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer-long border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.

In comments on July 9, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi said 3,815 Iranian law enforcement forces have lost their lives and over 12,000 others have been wounded in the war on drug trafficking over the past 40 years.

Over the past three decades, Iran has seized approximately 11,000 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, he added, saying that in 2018 alone, Iranian forces carried out 1,557 operations against drug traffickers, seizing approximately 807 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

According to the “World Drug Report 2019” of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in 2017 Iran had seized “the largest quantity of opiates … accounting for 39 percent of the global total,” the envoy stated.

This year it has been the latest one captured by police forces. Earlier this month, in Western Azarbayjan province, another narcotic cargo was detected and seized by police officers.

The United Nations credits Iran with the seizure of 80 percent of the opium netted around the world.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian police have lost more than 3300 of their personnel in the country’s combat against narcotics.

A number of other people having a connection with the suspects have been also identified and would be detained in proper time, the commander added.
