Less than two weeks after being sworn in as the new president of Iran, Pezeshkian submitted the list of his proposed ministerial picks to the Parliament on August 11.

In comments on Monday, the president said none of his picks has been chosen without consultations with the high-level authorities of the country.

He said his incoming administration has honored the pledge of “national consensus” and now expects the lawmakers to demonstrate their commitment in practice by giving a vote of confidence to his cabinet.

After the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, Pezeshkian became one of six final candidates singled out by the Constitutional Council from 80 applicants seeking the presidency.

He won the highest number of votes in the first round of the presidential election on June 28 and faced off the runner-up, Saeed Jalili, in the runoff election on July 5.

The physician-turned-politician won the runoff by garnering 53.66% of the votes.

His new administration, the 14th after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, holds office for four years.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Shahriar Heidari, the vice-chairman of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said that the lifting of sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic of Iran was the main aim of the Parliament in approving the Law of the Strategic Action Plan.

Emphasizing the need for accurate implementation of Strategic Action Plan for Lifting Sanctions and protecting the rights of the Iranian people, he stated, “Upon the approval of the new law, the Islamic Republic of Iran initiated enriching uranium with 20% purity with a prior notice to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”

Under the law approved by the Parliament, “We said from the beginning that if Western countries fail to lift sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic, IAEA inspectors would be expelled from the country as of Feb. 23 and also Iran will suspend the voluntary implementation of Additional Protocol (AP).”

According to the recommendations of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, both the Parliament and government will interact with each other, he said, adding, “Chairpersons of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and Energy Commission are scheduled to hold expert-level meetings with the government and Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in this respect.”

It is hoped that cooperation between Parliament and government will lead to realizing national interests and materializing sublime advice of Leader of the Islamic Revolution, he added.

Back in December 2020, Iranian legislators passed a law to further accelerate the development of the nuclear program. The law is a firm reaction to Washington’s 2018 withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal – the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – and the illegal sanctions the US has imposed against Iran since then.

To implement the law, Iran stopped the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and restricted access to the country’s nuclear sites on February 23.

Following the decision, Rafael Grossi, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency paid an official day-long visit to Tehran and held talks with Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on issues relating to the IAEA’s monitoring of Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Iran and the IAEA then issued a joint statement according to which, the two sides have reached a “temporary bilateral technical understanding.”

According to the statement, Iran said it would stop its voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol to the NPT and would deny IAEA inspectors access to its nuclear facilities beyond the Safeguards Agreement as of February 23, 2021, for three months.

However, it added, “Iran continues to implement fully and without limitation its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA as before.”

Iran and the IAEA have also agreed to a temporary bilateral technical understanding, compatible with the Law, whereby the IAEA will continue with its necessary verification and monitoring activities for up to 3 months (as per a technical annex).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that the Government enacted a law passed by the Parliament – known as ‘Strategic Act’ as of this morning.

The Strategic Act obliged the Government to stop voluntary acceptance of the IAEA Additional Protocol until the other participants to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action adhere to their undertakings under the accord.

Zarif said that Iran had officially informed the IAEA on February 15 about the Law that Iran will stop implementing the Additional Protocol on February 23.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif indicated in a tweet Friday that “the U.S. must lift all sanctions that the (former) Trump administration imposed immediately and unconditionally, in which case (Tehran) will back down on all the steps that it has taken.”

Zarif also told Iranian media that the U.S. now understands that its policy of absolute pressure on Tehran has failed and the Europeans must comprehend that there is no point in applying pressure on Iran because it does not work … If the U.S. returns to the agreement, he said, we will return to the agreement.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh tweeted “token steps” now being taken by the U.S. are “great,” but that the important issue is to put the P5+1 group of countries back together. “The Trump administration,” he added “left the room and tried to blow it up.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – While condemning the European Parliament resolution imposing sanctions on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran for alleged human rights violations, the Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission denounced the intervention of the British Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee in Iran’s internal affairs, stupid recommendations of the Committee against Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and French government’s anti-human rights stance in support of a criminal.

In addition to condemning the French government’s anti-human rights stance in support of a criminal, Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission added, “The European Parliament, which today issues a resolution against the execution and protection of criminals against the national security of our country, is the same institution that not only did not react in the face of the cowardly assassination of innocent Iranian scientists but on the contrary always supported, sheltered terrorists including KMO and separatist group and hosts leaders of terrorist groups in the parliament.”

While officials of terrorists and the criminal Israeli regime have confessed to carrying out assassinations in Iran, European officials and members of parliament have never dared to criticize those criminals, the statement is read.

If members of the European Parliament are able to put aside the shameless support of the Western countries for the Zionists and the terrorists and murderous dictators, then the world public opinion can listen to them. There is no doubt that Westerners, with their negative and dark backgrounds in support of terrorists, dictators, warmongers, and assassins, are never worthy of criticism of Iran’s actions.

While condemning the move taken by the European Parliament and Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament and the French government, the Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide a list of names of some European officials in response.

“Those who do not tolerate the slightest words to themselves have now increased their ugliness and disrespect in their enmity with Islam and all the heavenly religions showing that they know nothing of humanity, kindness, and peace among human beings,” he added.

He also strongly condemned the recent heinous acts of the French rulers.

“Ghalibaf strongly condemns insult to Prophet Muhammad”

Previously, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman strongly condemned the insult to the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in France, calling the insult to Islamic values and the beliefs of Muslims unacceptable and rejected.

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) – The speaker of the Iranian Parliament believes the wickedness of those who insult the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) shows their disbelief in God.

“Muslims and atheists of the world unanimously condemn the shameless enmity of the unwise and stubborn leaders of France with the Prophet of Mercy (PBUH),” Mohammad Baher Ghalibaf tweeted on Sunday.

“The malice of these disgraceful people shows their disbelief in God and their enmity with all the heavenly religions,” he added.

He made the reaction strongly condemning the obstinate insistence in France on insulting the Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

His comments came after French President Emmanuel Macron said his country “will not give up cartoons” insulting the prophets.

The desecration of Muslim religious sanctities is not rare in France.

In September, French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo republished the same cartoons about the Great Prophet and Islam that prompted a deadly attack on the magazine in 2015.

“In this closed session on Wednesday, attended by the Industry Minister Razm Hosseini, economic subjects including the priorities of the ministry, setting the goods’ prices, supply and distribution of goods, and issues related to steel companies were discussed,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said.

The students urged parliamentarians to approve rules for collecting IAEA’s surveillance cameras, expelling IAEA inspectors, and then complete withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), exiting from Additional Protocol (AP) and even from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM) is activated by the US at the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Students’ Basij (Volunteer Forces) Department of 307 universities of the country in a letter penned to the representatives at Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission pointed to the US anti-Iran moves for activating ‘Snapback Trigger Mechanism’ under JCPOA and emphasized that Parliament should take urgent measures to deal with the US behavior in this respect.

JCPOA member states in the recent Joint Commission Meeting in the Austrian capital Vienna condemned the US move on activating Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM) and added, “Given the US withdrawal from JCPOA in May 2018, it is not authorized to snap back trigger mechanism and it is unlikely that these countries could succeed to resume Iran sanctions.”

This is while that the US, despite these statements and instead of using Paragraph 36 and 37 of JCPOA, has used Paragraphs 10 and 11 of UNSCR 2231 which is a clear violation of agreement within the framework of JCPOA.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A group of Iranian Parliament lawmakers put forward a motion for an automatic withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in case the activation of snapback mechanism in the JCPOA would re-impose the UN sanctions on Tehran.

The proposal, signed by 49 MPs and submitted to the Parliament’s presiding board, asserts that Iran must withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) automatically as soon as the snapback mechanism is triggered and the UN sanctions are reinstated.

The lawmakers also lashed out at the US government for mounting pressures on Iran and its push to trigger the snapback mechanism after its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018.

While the US has violated the JCPOA and is attempting to re-impose the UN sanctions against Iran by resorting to the JCPOA mechanism, it is necessary to protect the national interests, said the proposal.

Considering that remaining in the JCPOA will not be in Iran’s interests and the UN Security Council sanctions will be re-imposed if the snapback mechanism is triggered, the Iranian government must be required to withdraw from the nuclear deal in that case as a preemptive measure, the MPs said in the motion.

As part of an illegal push, the United States is trying to invoke the snapback mechanism in the JCPOA despite its withdrawal in May 2018 in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the nuclear deal.

The key point in the snapback mechanism is that in case of a failure to resolve a dispute among the parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the UNSC would vote on a resolution “to continue the sanctions lifting”, meaning that a single veto from one of the UNSC members (most likely from the US) would end the sanctions’ lifting and slap the previous sanctions against Tehran again.

In a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Tehran on Wednesday, Qalibaf said the new Iranian Parliament has devised plans for an evolution of the country’s foreign and international trade.

One of the main priorities in Parliament is promoting trade and economic ties with Iraq, as a strategic partner, and with other neighbors, he added.

Qalibaf further condemned the US assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani in Iraq, saying such a crime is not a simple issue and the assassination case must be pursued vigorously.

“We believe that the region will not achieve stability as long as foreign forces are present in the region,” the speaker said, adding, “We also believe that a strong and developed Iraq would be a significant model for bilateral and regional relations.”

For his part, al-Kadhimi praised Iran for supporting the Iraqi government and nation in the fight against terrorism and Daesh, saying Baghdad is determined to enhance the economic, cultural and security relations with Tehran.

The Iranian and Iraqi governments and parliaments must hold consultations to boost relations in a way that would benefit the two nations, he underlined.

On Tuesday, al-Kadhimi met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

In the gathering, the Leader voiced the Islamic Republic’s support for al-Kadhimi’s government, saying, “Wisdom, religion and experience require the expansion of Iran-Iraq relations. Obviously, such relations have opponents; leading them is the US. But, one should never fear the US at all, because the US can’t do a single thing.”
