Iran Oil Exported With High Quality, NIOC Responds to Claims

TEHRAN (Iran News) NIOC addressed concerns about oil quality, stating that fluctuations in water and salt content within crude oil are a natural part of the production process in the oil industry. The company noted that such variations have occurred across all periods and administrations, with documented evidence available in its records. A recent increase in water and salt levels in crude oil, while not unprecedented, is being addressed through measures implemented in recent weeks, with a resolution expected soon.

NIOC underscored its dedication to preserving its brand reputation and meeting customer expectations, particularly for refineries—its primary domestic clients—and export destinations. The company emphasized that substandard oil quality would halt export operations entirely, as no loading or shipment would proceed under such conditions.

Amid what it described as an economic war, NIOC criticized certain individuals for spreading false and biased information about Iran’s crude oil exports on social media, calling it contrary to national interests. The company urged media outlets, regardless of political leanings, to prioritize national welfare and avoid providing adversaries with opportunities to exploit such narratives.

NIOC clarified that fluctuations in water and salt content typically occur when production capacity is maximized or when policies aim to boost output. However, these changes are manageable and do not affect the global pricing of Iranian crude, as low-quality oil is never loaded for export. Per standard procedures, excess water and salt are separated from crude oil in storage tanks on Khark Island, tested in certified laboratories, and only then approved for export.

The statement comes amid recent successes by Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum in increasing oil, gas, and petroleum product output, including a record-breaking crude oil export level over the past decade. These achievements, which helped the country navigate a prolonged cold season, led to U.S. sanctions on Iran’s Oil Minister, recognized for his expertise in oil and petroleum exports. NIOC called on critics to refrain from aligning with adversaries and undermining these gains.

Iraq Oil Ministry Not Ready to Buy Iran Oil Products

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

TEHRAN – Spokesman of Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Union (OPEX) Mr. Seyed Hamid Hosseini says Iraq central government has the refining capacity for 700,000 barrels of oil per day and it has set standards of euro 4 and 5 for imports of the oil products but it is not ready to purchase oil products from Iran due to the U.S. sanctions.

Speaking to ILNA, Mr. Hosseini pointed to the volume of Iran’s exports to Iraq in the current year, saying that in the first half of the year, Iran’s exports to Iraq were around $2.9b while the figure in the first five months of the year was just $560m but after reopening of borders, exports to Iraq were accelerated and the figure rose significantly.

He added that gasoline topped Iran’s exports to Iraqi Kurdistan and electricity, construction materials, foodstuff, chemicals, petrochemicals and industrial items were Iran’s other major exports to Iraq.

He then elaborated why the major part of Iran’s exports are to Iraqi Kurdistan rather than the central government, saying that Iraq oil ministry is not ready to buy Iran oil products due to sanctions and it buys its needed products from India and Europe but this year it has decreased its imports of oil products due to the Coronavirus pandemic and currently the central government of Iraq has daily refining capacity of 700,000 and it has set standards of euro 4 and 5 for imported oil products.

Hosseini added that so Iraqi Kurdistan is Iran’s major customer, adding that the major exports in the past ten years have been destined to Iraqi Kurdistan and the trade with the central government has been insignificant.

He added that Iraqi Kurdistan has its own laws and regulations and regarding the sanctions, it has received some waivers and acts based on them. He reiterated that Iraqi Kurdistan does not usually ban imports of goods but it regulates its trade policies with levying tariffs and whenever it decides to stop import of some goods, it increases the tariffs and it does not slap ban like the central government of Iraq.

Hosseini reiterated that the gasoline which is produce in Iran is with octane ratings of 87 and 91, and it is the most high quality gasoline in the region.

He said most of euro 4 gasoline produced domestically and in Persian Gulf Star Refinery is consumed domestically, and one cannot find gasoline with such a quality in the region and no country but India produces gasoline with euro 4 and 5 standards.

Addressing a parliament session on Tuesday, Zanganeh said the administration has prioritized development of the joint oilfields considering the sanctions over the past 7 years.

Iran is not lagging behind the neighbors in the joint oilfields, the minister underlined, saying the output at the West Karun oilfields has risen from 70,000 to 400,000 bpd.

He also pointed to a jump in the South Pars gas field output, saying the large complex is now producing 700 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Zanganeh said his ministry is resolved to increase oil and gas production in the joint fields, boost gas exports, support domestic knowledge-based companies and deal with the oil sanctions.

The oil minister had announced before that Iran’s daily extraction of natural gas from the South Pars gas field has overtaken Qatar’s daily output from the joint field.

South Pars, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.

According to Vahid Maleki, the planned roll-out at the end of the current Iranian calendar year for the Jask oil terminal would include a metering system, two 36-inch pipelines, marine manifold and a single point mooring (SPM) facility, Press TV reported.

Iran began work on Jask oil terminal and a 1000-kilometer pipeline system connecting it to the Goureh region in southwestern province of Bushehr in late June.

The $2-billion project will enable Iran to deliver oil for exports outside the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which nearly a third of the global seaborne oil trade is accommodated.

More than 4,000 people have been recruited for the construction of massive project which is fully financed by the Iranian government.

Maleki said construction and engineering teams were almost through on 35 percent of the work on the pipeline and the oil export terminal in Jask, adding that the project would go ahead as planned in the upcoming months until it fully comes on line by March.

“Currently, some 150 units of light and heavy machinery are busy working on the executive side and some 900,000 cubic meters of earthworks has been carried out as part of plans for the early rollout of the project,” the contractor was quoted as saying in a report by the Pars Oil & Gas Company, which is in charge of the project.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A senior official at Iran’s Persian Gulf Star Refinery (PGSR) said that the domestic companies operating in the oil and gas industry are receiving more support to help the country decrease impacts of the US sanctions.

Managing Director of the PGSR Emad Zarei said that the main policy taken by the company’s managers is to support domestic producers and suppliers, reported Fars News Agency.

“The approach has played a major role in developing production, increasing competitiveness and promoting the quality of products,” he added.

Zarei noted that sensitive parts like compressors and pumps are now made by domestic companies to decrease the impacts of the US cruel sanctions.

The PGSR, with a daily processing capacity of 360,000 barrels of gas condensate, is aimed at producing gasoline, diesel, gas condensate and jet fuel after being fully inaugurated.

The PSGR construction started in 2006 and its third phase was commissioned in 2018.

Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on August 3 that the country will reach almost a full natural gas penetration rate next summer.

Zanganeh added more than 95 percent of all households in Iran would have access to natural gas once the current administrative government leaves office in August 2021.

He also said the figure, which he described as unique in the world, would be above a target set in 2013.

“We do not have such a level of extensive gas penetration in the world, this is an important infrastructure which people have a good grasp of it,” he said.

Iran is the largest holder of natural gas reserves in the world. It has significantly boosted production in recent years despite sanctions imposed by the United States on the country’s energy sector.

Growing production has become possible thanks to massive development plans in the sprawling South Pares gas field, the world’s largest gas reserve which is shared between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Considering progress in Goreh-Jask oil pipeline project, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) will be able to export its first oil cargo from Jask terminal by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2021), said the managing director of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC).

According to Touraj Dehqani, the development of the project is going on uninterrupted and the project has reached over 50 percent of physical progress, IRNA reported.

“With the main pumping stations of the project becoming operational, we will witness the beginning of the oil transfer from Goreh to Jask by the end of the year,” Dehqani said.

“Of course, like other parts of the project, Jask export terminal itself has developed and progressed,” he added.

The official added if the required storages at the Jask terminal are not addressed by the end of the year, alternative options such as the use of single-point-mooring (SPM) storing the oil will be on the agenda.

The PEDEC’s goal is to export the first oil cargo from Jask oil terminal in the last month of the current Iranian calendar year (starting on February 19, 2021).

Goreh-Jusk oil pipeline project was inaugurated in late June by President Hassan Rouhani.

The pipeline will transfer one million barrels of heavy and light crude oil per day to Jask oil terminal in the southern province of Hormuzgan to be exported.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the project, Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said it was one of the most strategic projects in the Rouhani administration.

Zanganeh said a total of $300 million has so far been invested in the project while another $800-$850 million is needed for its full operation.

“We hope that exports from Jask will begin as the government’s most strategic project by the end of this [Iranian] year,” the minister noted.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The long-term strategy of India is to purchase Iran’s oil, as large refineries in the South Asian country have been built in accordance with the Iranian oil’s quality, said the Indian ambassador to Tehran.

Gaddam Dharmendra told IRNA on Friday that Indian refineries have suffered losses due to not buying Iranian oil.

“Iran is our reliable partner and we want to maintain our relations.”

India and Iran are currently cooperating in the field of transportation within the framework of developing the southeastern Iranian port of Chabahar, he said, adding, “We have a partnership with the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran and are committed to its expansion.”

In terms of the banking and financial relations, the two countries’ central banks are in contact with each other and developing their ties, the envoy said, noting that a rupee-rial financial mechanism was activated by India and Iran prior to any other financial mechanism.

“We want the trade relations between the two countries to go beyond [exchanging] agricultural products, such as tea and rice, and include exports of engineering services.”

The two countries are preparing and finalizing a preferential trade agreement, said the official, adding that recently, the Iranian Parliament approved an agreement between Iran and India to avoid double taxation.

“We believe that these documents will facilitate trade relations between the two countries,” he noted.

Commenting on the impacts of Washington’s unilateral sanctions on cooperation between New Delhi and Tehran in developing the southeastern Iranian port, the ambassador said India has explained to the US about Chabahar port’s development and the contribution this transport corridor can make to the process of providing assistance to Afghanistan.

He added, “They have been convinced. As a result, Chabahar has been exempted from US sanctions against Iran. We consider this a unique achievement for India.”

Dharmendra noted that India is interested in participating in this project and looks forward to continuing expert and technical negotiations in this regard.

Due to the decrease in energy transactions between India and Iran, the level of bilateral trade has dropped compared to the past, he said.

“Our initial estimate of the value of [annual] trade between Iran and India in the current year is $3.4 billion. Of course, we have to wait for the official figure to be announced,” the envoy noted.

“Our effort is to bring the two countries’ chambers of commerce closer together to discuss maintaining the level of trade relations,” he concluded.

Addressing a ceremony to launch gas supply to 77 Iranian villages on Monday, Zanganeh hailed the amount of Iran’s export of petroleum products, saying gas distribution projects had facilitated exports of petroleum products, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

“The amount of the exports of petroleum products in Iran have been unprecedented thanks to gas distribution projects,” he said.

“Activities in the oil industry have continued vigorously for more than two years since the sanctions were imposed,” he added noting, “We stand firm and buoyant to serve the goal of serving the people,” despite the existing problems.

noting that two years and three months have passed since the severe sanctions were imposed on Iran, the minister said, during this period not only no plans in the oil industry had halted, but “we have also started new plans.”

Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said that thanks to the increase in the gas production and gas supply in the country, the numbers for exporting products are unique.
