TEHRAN (Iran News) – Two Iranian tankers that delivered fuel to Venezuela as part of a five-vessel flotilla have begun to sail back, according to Refinitiv Eikon, as the government of the South American nation prepares stations to begin charging for the gasoline.

The supply is meant to ease fuel shortages that have plagued the country. After three months of fuel rationing, Venezuelans began lining up on Saturday to wait for the Iranian gasoline to be sold at stations from Monday under a new system combining subsidies and internationally-indexed prices, Reuters reported.

The model will put an end to over two decades of Venezuelans filling up their tanks for next to nothing.

The two first Iranian tankers that discharged fuel last week are going back over the weekend from state-run PDVSA’s ports in Venezuela. The Fortune on Sunday set sail to its origin port, Iran’s Bandar Abbas, with an estimated arrival in July, while the Forest on Saturday departed from the Cardon refinery before switching off its satellite signal, according to the Eikon data.

In most of the country’s 1,800 gasoline stations, motorists will be able to buy 60 to 120 liters per month at a subsidized price of about 2.5 US cents per liter. After surpassing quotas, tanks will be filled at higher prices. Details of the new model, including some final prices, have not yet been revealed.

Venezuela’s oil minister Tareck El Aissami said on Sunday that licenses were approved for 200 stations to sell gasoline at internationally-indexed prices without quotas. The initial price at those sites is $0.50 per liter.

“To the people: thank you for your comprehension, for your heroic resistance and for trusting President (Nicolas) Maduro’s government,” he said in a televised speech.

“The ‘Fortune’ became this Monday #25May a symbol of freedom and courage for two peoples: Venezuela and Iran,” tweeted Maduro while posting photos of the Iranian tanker docked in a Venezuelan port.

The tweet came as oil tanker Fortune arrived and docked at its destination in Venezuela, El Palito refinery, to deliver fuel to people who are under the intense pressure of the United States.

The second tanker, Forest, is also in the Venezuelan territory while three other tankers are on the way.

The five tankers deliver some 1.5 million barrels of fuel to Venezuela that despite having abundant reserves, is facing fuel shortage due to illegal US sanctions.

Tehran’s decision to send Iran-flagged tankers to Venezuela amid US sanctions against both countries has infuriated those in the White House with some sources saying that Washington may adopt measures against it.

Iran has vowed to retaliate any aggression against its tankers while noting that it has the inherent right to trade with other countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – National Iranian Tanker Company, NITC, has undertaken to overhaul 10 oil tankers since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21), the company’s managing director told Mehr news agency.

Nasrollah Sardashti also announced that two tankers have been already dry-docked for overhaul and as scheduled seven or eight more oil tankers will be overhauled by the yearend.

In this way, NITC will finish the overhaul operation of 20 oil tankers in the current Iranian calendar year, while the company had previously announced that the plan for this year is overhauling 12 tankers.

“We have not sent any tanker outside the country for overhaul in the present year”, Sardashti further emphasized.

In late July, the company successfully finished the overhaul operation of supertanker “DORE” after a month.

According to Sardashti, Iranian technicians managed to repair the oil supertanker “DORE” inside the country for the first time in the history of Iran’s shipping industry.

“Engines, generators, and electrical appliances all have been repaired and stained and will not require major repairs for the next five years,” Sardashti said.

In late June, the 320,000-ton oil supertanker DORE was successfully dry-docked in Bandar Abbas at Iran ISOICO to go through an overhaul for the first time inside the country.

DORE belongs to the national Iranian oil tanker fleet and is a “giant oil tanker” with a length of 333 meters.

It was the first time that the repair and maintenance services of a super oil vessel are assigned to a domestic repair yard.

According to NITC Technical Advisor Ali Mansourzadeh, before this Iranian technicians had successfully completed the overhauling and maintenance operations of a variety of smaller vessels in a 6-month period, including MARIA 3 tanker with a capacity of 13,600 cubic meters, POLARIS with a capacity of 45,000 tons, and ARK and ARGO each with a capacity of 100,000 tons.

However, due to some technological limitations, the repair operations of supertankers like DORE was carried out in foreign countries.
