TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has said his country will return to the oil market in the shortest possible time after the removal of the U.S. sanctions on the country’s oil industry, ISNA reported.

Speaking to the press after attending the 18th OPEC+ ministerial meeting

which was held online on Friday, Zanganeh said: “At this meeting, I announced that if the sanctions are lifted, Iranian oil will return to the market as soon as possible; This is our official decision.”

“I announced Iran’s position in the meeting and emphasized that any decision made in this meeting will not affect our plans. We will return to the market with at least an amount equal to the pre-sanctions level,” he added.

The official noted that some OPEC members are in disagreement regarding their assigned shares for the cuts in the coming months and discussions are ongoing to settle the issue.

The 181st meeting of the OPEC conference was chaired by Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Diamantino Pedro Azevedo.

In the Friday meeting OPEC paid tribute to Zanganeh for his long-lasting contribution to the organization and the oil market.

Iran has repeatedly stated that the country is ready to come back to the oil market with full force after the removal of the U.S. sanctions.

Earlier in June, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Deputy Director for Production Affairs Farrokh Alikhani said that the company has taken all the necessary measures and is ready for boosting oil output to the pre-sanctions level within a month.

“Precise weekly, monthly, and quarterly planning has been made to restore oil production to pre-sanctions level, and if sanctions are lifted, most of the country’s oil production will be restored within a month,” Alikhani said.

“The average daily production of Iranian oil before the re-imposition of sanctions was 3.38 million barrels per day, and the National Iranian Oil Company has planned to return to the pre-sanctions production in the first step if the sanctions are lifted, and in the next step to increase production capacity to more than four million barrels per day,” Alikhani explained.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Post-sanction Iran able to boost oil output to 6m bpd: Lukoil. Vice President of Russia’s giant Lukoil Company has said Iran is able to quickly boost its oil output to six million barrels per day (bpd) if the U.S. sanctions are lifted, Russian state-owned Tass reported.

Speaking on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 3, Leonid Fedun said: “If sanctions are lifted, Iran will be able to offer up to 1.5 million barrels of oil per day to the market in the near time.”

Iran is a key factor for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and it is more important than the demand in the global oil market, the top manager said.

“Shortage may turn into surplus. That is why OPEC is so cautious in all its actions,” Fedun noted.

In late May, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh had said Iran could “easily” boost its oil production capacity to 6.5 million bpd.

“We can easily reach 6.5 million barrels per day,” Zanganeh said at a ceremony to award studies on the country’s giant Azadegan oil field on May 31.

Zanganeh said Iran is ready to return to the oil market as soon as the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is revived and the U.S. sanctions are lifted.

Iran is gradually boosting crude oil production to get ready for a strong comeback into the global market as the talks with world powers over the 2015 nuclear deal show signs of progress.

Earlier in May, officials from the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) had stated that the country’s oil fields are going through overhaul operations and connections with oil buyers are being re-established, according to a report by Bloomberg.

“In the most optimistic estimates, the country could return to pre-sanctions production levels of almost four million barrels a day in as little as three months,” the report said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran preparing for a strong comeback to oil market. Iran is gradually boosting crude oil production to get ready for a strong comeback into the global market as the talks with world powers over the 2015 nuclear deal show signs of progress.

According to a Bloomberg report, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) officials have stated that the country’s oil fields are going through overhaul operations and connections with oil buyers are being re-established.

“In the most optimistic estimates, the country could return to pre-sanctions production levels of almost four million barrels a day in as little as three months,” the report said.

Iran and other signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal, including the United States, are currently negotiating in Vienna and the two sides have signaled that an agreement is within reach.

If successful, the negotiations could reactivate the nuclear deal that Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from in 2018. That would require the U.S to lift all the sanctions imposed by the former president.

Iran has been ramping up its oil production over the past few months following the recent developments in the White House and also the recovery of the global markets from the negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

The increase in the production has been followed by a boost in exports so that in late April Reuters reported that Iranian crude oil exports in the mentioned month had remained above the level of exports during the same period in 2020.

Earlier this month, Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri said the country was able to increase its oil exports up to 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) once the U.S. sanctions are lifted.

“Oil sales have dropped a lot, but now the situation is better, and we are in control. We will be able to increase oil exports to 2.5 million barrels per day after the removal of the sanctions,” Jahangiri said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has successfully implemented the national waste-to-energy project in Kharg Island to curb the associated petroleum gas (APG) or flare gas of the petroleum products in the Persian Gulf oil and gas fields.

According to the portal of Bushehr province Department of Environment, the project has been launched by the cooperation of the Kharg Petrochemical Company (KPC) and Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).

The project is envisaged to harness and transfer 50 million cubic feet per day of the associate petroleum gas of flare to offshore facilities in Kharg Island.

According to reports, the project will reduce the gas flaring in the major Forouzan Oilfield in the Persian Gulf to zero. Close to 6.5 million cubic meters of gas is burnt off in flares in this field every day that will be soon transferred to Kharg Petrochemical Plant and Kharg NGL Plant.

Flaring is the burning of natural gas that cannot be processed or sold. Flaring of APG is an important safety measure at many oil and gas production sites, as it prevents industrial plant equipment from over-pressuring and exploding.

Highlighting the need and significance of zero flaring projects to ensure zero hydrocarbon discharge into the environment, experts say the flaring of gas contributes to climate change and impacts the environment through the emission of carbon dioxide, black carbon, and other pollutants.

It also wastes valuable energy resources that can be used for sustainable development in producing countries.

According to a World Bank report, thousands of gas flares at oil production sites around the world burn approximately 140 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, causing more than 300 million tons of carbon dioxide to be emitted into the atmosphere.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Oil production at the West Karoun oil fields in southwestern Iran increased fivefold in the past six years, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said on Saturday.

The West Karoun oilfields have the capacity to produce up to one million barrels per day if there are additional investment and technology, Zanganeh said, according to Shana.

Zanganeh said last year that Iran aimed to produce 300,000 barrels of oil per day from West Karoun.

Zanganeh also said more than $30 billion is required to complete unfinished petrochemical projects across the country.

He added domestic companies are able to make such an investment, but if we can get it from micro-liquidity, there would be a greater chance for development in the oil industry.

Underlining the importance of investment in the oil industry, the minister noted that, every year, more than $25 billion must be invested in the country’s oil industry and if this doesn’t happen, other sectors of the economy would also suffer the consequences.

“There is only $12 billion worth of petrochemical projects which have been finalized but have not yet been started; there are also downstream and midstream projects, which together create a $40 billion investment opportunity in the petrochemical industry,” he added.

Iran started production of extra-heavy oil with the API gravity of 20 from West Karoun reserves, especially from the South and North Azadegan fields in May 2018.

Iran now has the most variety of oil production with eight types of light and heavy crude.

Iran has an advantage in global markets due to its range of oil products. Oil from the Hengam oil and gas field is the lightest in the world, while the oil from other fields in the Persian Gulf, such as Soroush, Noruz, and Forouzan, are among the heavy brands.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Petrol Company of Iran Rasoul Najafzadeh said on Saturday that his country is working on four petrochemical parks to accommodate plants.

Najafzadeh said Orumieh Melamine, Ilam Polypropylene, Melamine Crystal Park and Lordegan Resin Urea parks are planned to be built in Iran in the near future.

He added that the Orumieh Potassium Sulfate Unit will become operational by March, with 400,000 tons per year of production capacity.

In October 2019, the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) of Iran announced that the diversity of petrochemicals produced in Iran is expected to be enhanced by 2025 as the country is planning to realize the sector’s second and third leaps by 2025.

The first leap of the industry took place in 2011 while the second and third leaps are planned to be realized by 2021 and 2025, respectively.

Furthermore, NPC considered feedstock supply to the plants as a priority, adding that the leaps would allow domestic production of key petrochemical items in the country.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) and Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development and Renovation (IMIDRO) signed a memorandum of understanding for production of sponge and needle coke in Bandar Abbas and Imam Khomeini Shazand refineries which will render Iran self-sufficient in production of the items used for steel production.

A ceremony was held in Tehran yesterday (Monday) to strike the deal in the presence of Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh, the CEO of NIORDC Alireza Sadiqabadi, Reza Rahmani, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani, Chairman of IMIDRO Khodada Gharibpour as well as the heads of the two refineries.

By signing this agreement, the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) will cooperate with IMIDRO to launch a coke production unit in the two refineries and the needle and sponge coke required by the steel industry of the country will be produced from low-sulfur fuel oil domestically.

The pilot plant of the unit will be built at RIPI, and with the signing of this MoU, industrial-scale coke units will be contracted in the refineries afterward.

This agreement is of great strategic value for Iran given the U.S. sanctions imposed on the import of pet coke to Iran.

There are at least four basic types of petroleum coke, namely, needle coke, honeycomb coke, sponge coke and shot coke. Different types of petroleum coke have different microstructures due to differences in operating variables and the nature of the feedstock. Significant differences are also to be observed in the properties of the different types of coke, particularly ash and volatile matter contents.

Addressing the ceremony, Zangeneh said the production of sponge and needle coke in the country needs one billion dollars of investment.

He added that it is expected the agreement to turn into a contract and the plan is carried out. The minister said in the past there was a problem in finance but the involvement of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry in the project has solved the woe of necessary license for production of coke.

Zanganeh added that one of the programs of the ministry is to improve the quality of the outputs of refineries, adding that the ministry is determined to move from producing heavy products to lighter ones while around 6 to 7 million liters of feed is used for production of coke and in such a project, the output mazut from the refineries is decreasing.

He reiterated that the project needs over one billion dollars of investment.

Meanwhile Sadiqabadi, for his part, said that by the agreement which was signed for producing sponge and needle coke, about 620,000 tons of sponge and needle coke in which aluminum industry needs will be produced.

He added that the program for improving the quality and increasing the capacity of the refineries in the country is something that kicked off 18 years ago and necessary initiative plans and technologies regarding the projects were provided. Sadiqabadi further said because of those measures, refining capacity in the country soared from 1.6m barrels of oil per day to 2.3m barrels of crude oil and condensate per day.

He noted that the gasoline capacity of the country was 37m liters per day 18 years ago but it has currently enhanced to around 110m liters per day.

Sadiqabadi also said the amount of mazut production was then around 70m liters and today it has reached 120m liters per day.

Known as Paranj and Parsi, the oilfields are located in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, Ahmad Mohammadi said in an address to a ceremony to sign the contract for developing the fields, IRNA reported.

Gas injection into the Parsi oilfield began in the early 1990s, he said, expressing hope that the field’s development, which requires employing enhanced oil recovery technologies, would lead to increased extraction from it.

Mohammadi put the two oilfields’ in-place oil reserves at about 12 billion barrels, saying that once upon a time daily extraction from Parsi oilfield stood at 450,000 barrels.

At present, however, the two oilfields’ daily production amounts to 52,000 barrels, he stressed.

CEO of NISOC gave assurance that the figure will reach 85,000 barrels per day once the fields’ development project is fully implemented.

As per the contract, he said, daily gas injection into Parsi and Paranj oilfields is expected to reach 280 million cubic feet and 24 million cubic feet, respectively, expressing optimism that the development of the fields would also help increase their recovery factor.

In an address to a ceremony in the central Iranian province of Yazd, Deputy Industry, Mine and Trade Minister for Commerce Hossein Modares-Khiabani added that according to figures by the World Trade Organization (WTO), these 15 countries together purchase $1.2 trillion worth of goods (from all countries) annually, IRNA reported.

In the last Iranian calendar year (which ended March 20, 2019), Iran sold products valued at $24 billion to these states, he noted, putting at $19 billion the country’s exports to the same destinations during March 21-December 22, 2019.

Modares-Khiabani said Iran share of annual non-oil exports to the members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), including Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Kazakhstan, with some expand, has increased to 59 percent from 55 percent.

He added that currently, non-oil exports constitute the major portion of Iran’s annual forex revenues, of which 70 percent have so far been injected into the domestic economy.

The deputy minister stressed that under the present circumstances when the domestic purchasing power has declined, raising exports can help save the country’s production units.

Turning to Expo 2020 in Dubai, the UAE, during October 20-April 10, he called on production units in Yazd Province, an international hub for exporting minerals, to play a significant role in the exhibition.
