According to a report by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) on Saturday, Gol-e Gohar Complex produced 4.15 million tons of iron pellets during the period while the output of Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (MIDHCO), Chadormalou and Opal Parsian Sangan Industrial and Mineral (OPSIM) stood at 2.24 million tons, nearly 1.2 million tons and 954,899 tons, respectively.

The IMIDRO report added that Sanabad Iron Ore Complex, Sanabad Steel and Mineral Industries and Saba Nour Iron Ore Plant produced 343,992 tons, 844,833 tons and 164,253 tons of iron ore pellets during the four months.

The mentioned companies supplied 5.64 million tons of iron pellets as the feed of domestic steel plants, while the remaining were exported.

According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA) on July 23, Iranian steelmakers produced nearly 13.9 million tons of crude steel during the first half of 2020, marking a 10.2 percent rise compared to the figure for the same period of 2019, which was 12.6 million tons.

Iran produced 2.4 million tons of crude steel in June, showing a 5.3 percent increase compared to the figure for the same month of 2019, which was 2.3 million tons.

Iran produced 31.9 million tons of crude steel in 2019, according to the WSA figures released in January.

The country plans to increase its annual steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025, with exports expected to reach between 10 million tons and 15 million tons per year.

The WSA is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world’s steel producers, including over 150 steel producers, with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s car production increased by nearly 53 percent year on year during the month to July 21, 2020, said a senior official of Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

Soheil Me’marbashi, the head of the ministry’s Transportation Industries Department, added during June 21-July 21, Iran produced 106,018 of different types of cars, up from a total of 69,402 manufactured in the same period in 2019, reported Press TV.

He noted that the country’s car production surged by nearly 20 percent in the first four months of the current calendar year (March 20-July 21).

The official put the total output between late March and late July at 296,328 cars, saying the figure stood at 248,184 in the same time span last year.

The increase in production means the Iranian car industry is recovering from months of the recession that came because of lower demands and closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carmakers around the world have reported historic plunges in output as the pandemic has caused factories and dealerships to close in many countries.

That comes as two main Iranian car manufacturers, namely Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) and Saipa, had been struggling with low cash supply and logistics problems even before the outbreak of the pandemic in Iran in late February.

Me’marbashi said IKCO had been responsible for a bulk of the increased production of cars in Iran during the pandemic months.

IKCO’s total car production during the four-month time span to July 21 reached over 160,000; while Saipa churned out nearly 145,000 cars over the same period, added the official.

He noted that production of small pickups had shown the highest amount of increase, nearly 33 percent, between March and July, as some 25,218 units of the vehicle were manufactured in this period, indicating a rise of 6,198 units compared to the output in the same duration last year, which stood at 19,020.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Aluminum ingot production by the companies in Iran witnessed a 47 percent growth during the first month of the current calendar year (March 20-April 19), compared to the figure for the same period last year.

During the 31-day period to April 19, the country produced 30,030 tons of aluminum ingots, according to the statistics released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), IRNA reported.

Production of aluminum ingot in Iran is planned to increase by 63 percent by the end of the current year (March 20, 2021) to hit 450,000 tons.

Iran’s major companies produced 275,716 tons of aluminum ingots in the year to March 2020, according to the data released by the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry.

On April 22, Iran’s former industry minister, Reza Rahmani, said aluminum production would jump in the year ahead with the opening of the South Aluminum Corporation (SALCO), the country’s largest aluminum smelter in the southern province of Fars.

“The aforementioned project has been completed in the city of Lamerd in Fars Province with a production capacity of 300,000 tons (a year) and around $1.2 billion in investment,” said Rahmani, adding once SALCO becomes fully operational, Iran’s total annual aluminum production capacity would reach 785,000 tons.

He added that SALCO is the only aluminum plant in Iran benefitting from all components of the aluminum production chain – including smelter, anode making, and storage facilities – in one single location.

Rahmani said an exclusive port terminal on the Persian Gulf provides the plant with services for exporting its products, adding the construction of the terminal had cost the government more than $170 million.

SALCO is jointly owned by the IMIDRO, Iran’s government-run holding for mining and metals, and Ghadir Investment Company, where the main shareholders are Iran’s Social Security Organization and pension funds related to the country’s Armed Forces.

According to statistics by the Association of Tire Manufacturers of Iran, 11 Iranian factories produced 237,645 tons of tires during the said period, IRNA reported on Friday.

Over 17 million passenger car tires, 1.16 million bicycle tires, and 3.775 scooter tires were produced.

Mohsen Safdari, the deputy director of the Non-metal Industries Office of the Iranian Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry said in January that Iran enjoys an annual production capacity of 426,000 tons of tire.

He further said that 11 tire production units are active in the country, creating jobs for 14,500 people.

Safdari put the country’s imports of tires at 97,000 tons worth $320 million and exports at 8,500 tons valued at $30 million in the past Iranian year (ended March 20, 2019).

He said the export figure is low, as the Ministry of Industry decided to ban the export to regulate the domestic market.

Safdari said tire consumption in the country is anticipated to reach 330,000 tons in the current Iranian year, saying that 24 million tires of passenger cars are required, while domestic production is predicted to hit 20 million.

“The Iranian tire industry is dependent on foreign raw materials by 40 percent, so we are self-reliant by 60 percent in this field,” the official announced.

In January, the Iranian Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Reza Rahmani said the production of heavy vehicle tire in the country will be more than the domestic consumption of the product.

Making the remarks while visiting some industrial units at Parand Industrial Park, southwest of Tehran on January 3, the minister said, “We have five production projects ready to be implemented that will oversupply the domestic market with heavy vehicle tires and, in this way, the threat [sanctions] will be turned into an opportunity.

“We are currently importing 70 percent of our required truck tires, but five manufacturing plants have been planned to reduce the imports. Putting the first plant into operation next month, we will achieve 55 percent self-reliance in this product.”

He said, “We have taken several major steps in terms of domestic production and self-reliance; the first step is to prevent importing products that can be produced inside the country.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran exports close to 8,000 tons of honey per annum, said the head of the country’s National Association of Beekeepers and Honey Producers.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Abdolreza Bigonah added the major destinations of Iran’s overseas sales of honey are neighbors as well as the Persian Gulf littoral states.

He noted that Iran’s honey is unique in the world in terms of quality.

Bigonah said Iran is among the world’s top 10 states in terms of the amount of honey production, adding Iranian honey’s quality is unique in the region in the light of the country’s wide floral diversity, green highlands, arid, semi-arid and cold climate and outstanding feature making it possible to find the climate typical of each of the four seasons in different parts of it concurrently, at any given time of the year.

Given the country’s favorable climatic condition, Iran has a high potential in the fields of beekeeping and honey production, and thus is capable of boosting exports through thoughtful planning, he stressed.

He said the honey produced in the northwestern Iranian province of Ardebil, known as ‘Sabalan’ (named after a mountain in the province), has the highest quality among its domestic counterparts and a great international reputation.

“This is because of Sabalan region’s special vegetation and the fact that the area is home to certain flowers, such as thyme, astragalus and chamomile.”

He listed the nutritional benefits of natural honey as boosting immune and digestive systems, warming the body and killing bacteria.

Iran is home to over 2,000 kinds of wildflowers and mountain flowers, Bigonah said, adding the diversity of the honey produced in the country is proportional to the number of flower types found in each region.

He stressed that since honey bees gather pollen from different flowers, each kind of honey is named after the region where it is produced.

The association’s head listed Iran’s major honey production hubs as the provinces of East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Ardebil (all three located in northwestern Iran) and Mazandaran (northern Iran).

He said other provinces, such as Lorestan (western Iran) and Kurdestan (northwestern Iran), are also active in the field of honey production, describing as traditional methods used by producers in these regions.

Bigonah said in Ardebil, however, beekeepers migrate to different special areas in each season to increase their output.

“At present, there are 7.15 million bee colonies or beehives across the country and over 182,000 people are involved in the field of honey production.”

He put at between 85,000 tons and 90,000 tons the average annual honey production in Iran, predicting that the country’s yearly honey output will amount to almost 85,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 19, 2020).

Bigonah said since Iran’s surplus honey production, on average, stands at between 15,000 tons and 20,000 tons per year, the product is sold at a price lower than its real value in the domestic market.

He put it close to 600 grams the annual per capita honey consumption in Iran.

Bigonah added annually, 7,000 tons of honey is produced in Ardebil, saying given the large number of packaging factories operational in the province, other cities send their honey to Ardebil to be packaged.

Commenting on the availability of fake honey in the Iranian market, he said that honey produced by reputable domestic companies is believed to be natural and pure as such firms’ products and performance are regularly controlled and supervised by the Iranian National Standards Organization, Iran’s Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) and Iran Veterinary Organization.

“However, some individuals, whose activities are not controlled or supervised by any state organization, may produce fake honey for the sake of reaping additional profits.”

According to the Vice president of this automaker company, Rana Plus, Soren Plus, Samand Optimal, Automatic Dana Plus, and Peugeot Panorama are five models that will be developed in the upcoming year, while K132s, Crossover K125s, and Hatchback K121s, as well as a Hybrid Dena, will also be launched in Iran by January 2023.

He described IKCO’s development plans as measures taken for maintaining the production boom and counteracting the effects of the U.S. sanctions on the country’s automotive industry.

Referring to the design of a proprietary platform for IKCO vehicles, Pourmojib noted: “The development of this platform will be up to date and in compliance with the highest standards and requirements of domestic laws and even export markets.”

According to the data released by the Codal website, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2019-February 19, 2020) IKCO manufactured 357,859 vehicles.

Last week, the Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Ministry announced that Iranian carmakers manufactured 612,000 passenger cars during the first 10 months of the current year.

Iran has been following a program for supporting domestic manufacturing of auto parts since due to the U.S. sanctions the country’s automakers have been facing some problems in supplying their needed parts and equipment.

Industry, Mining and Trade Minister Reza Rahmani has said that the policy of domestic manufacturing of auto parts should be seriously followed up and in this due capable manufacturers should be supported.
