According To Iran News, The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of former Islamic Republic of Iran national football team coach Parviz Aboutaleb who passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the age of 78 after battling with Alzheimer’s disease.

Aboutaleb represented Iranian clubs Rah Ahan and Esteghlal in the early 60’s. After retiring from his playing career, he continued to contribute to the game as a head coach, guiding the entire spectrum of age group teams in IR Iran before being appointed as Team Melli’s head coach in 1982.

Aboutaleb shared a great passion for football and was a great icon of the game and will be remembered for his valuable contributions to the development of football in IR Iran.

The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the family and friends of Aboutaleb, the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran and the IR Iran football community during this difficult time.

FIFA and AFC have postponed upcoming Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in mid-March due to coronavirus concerns.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has caused sports events to be suspended or postponed in Asia and Europe, including both domestic and international events.

The Team Melli’s training camp was due to be held starting from March 18 in Tehran but Skocic left Tehran after the cancellation of the camp.

According To Iran News, Karim Bagheri has been named as Iranian assistant of Dragan Skocic in Iran national football team.

According to the Iran Football Federation’s website, the 46-year-old coach will assist Skocic in the 2022 World Cup qualification.

Bagheri will have a part-time job in Team Melli since he is Persepolis’ assistant coach.

Iran is scheduled to host Hong Kong on March 26 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in the 2022 World Cup qualification.

Ali Daei refused to take charge of Iranian club Zob Ahan on Sunday and media reports suggest that he is a candidate to lead the Iran national football team in the future.

Ex-Team Melli and Persepolis coach Branko Ivankovic had reportedly reached an agreement with the Iran football federation to replace Marc Wilmots but it seems the federation has turned to an Iranian option, supposedly Ali Daei, for coaching Team Melli.

Yahya Golmohammadi is also among the candidates to coach Team Melli or Persepolis.

Daei was appointed as Team Melli’s coach in 2008 but during his tenure as the national team coach, the Iranian team managed the weakest World Cup Qualification results in its history with only one win out of five games.

With less than three months remaining until the restart of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, the Iranian federation has not introduced the new head coach.

Team Melli will host Hong Kong on March 26 in Tehran and meet Cambodia five days later in an away match.

Iran will face Bahrain and Iraq on June 4 and 9 in Tehran.

Team Melli will face Iraq in Group C in an important match on Thursday.

Iraq had been due to play the two games in Basra — against Iran on November and Bahrain on November 19 — but the southern port city has been caught up in the anti-government demonstrations that have swept Baghdad and the south.

FIFA requested an alternative venue because of ongoing protests and the Iraqi football association chose Amman Stadium in Amman, Jordan.

According To Iran News, The contract’s details of Marc Wilmots and his coaching staff with Iran national football team have been disclosed.

As per the report, Wilmots and his staff has agreed to earn an annual salary of $3.6 million, however the Iranian football federation had announced that it will pay him $1.2 million.

Carlos Queiroz reportedly was the highest-paid coach in Iran’s history, earning, $1.4 million but it was rumored that Wilmots and his staff earn more.

The Belgian coach was appointed as Team Melli coach in mid-May on a three-year-contract.
