TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami gave an assurance that all of the country’s missiles are equipped only with conventional warheads.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, General Hatami emphasized that all of the missiles in Iran, which he described as a key component of the Islamic Republic’s defense power, are manufactured only with conventional warheads.

He said the powerful missiles are also very precise, adding that the US has experienced the precision of the Iranian missiles very well after the recent strike targeting the Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq.

The minister also categorically rejected the US claim that Iran is honing its ballistic missile skills through the launch of satellites, stressing that launching satellites has nothing to do with the country’s missile program.

“What has been banned in the area of missiles is working on missiles with the capability to carry nuclear warheads, while such a thing does not exist in the Islamic Republic,” Hatami underscored.

The minister explained that Iran’s recent launch of Zafar satellite with the homegrown satellite carrier Simorgh was completely irrelevant to the country’s missile program. “We might use a satellite for defense purposes, but the subject of satellite carriers is totally non-defensive, and it is the Iranian nation’s inalienable and definite right (to develop them).”

The defense minister also emphasized that the Simorgh satellite carrier is part of a research program, saying the research in this field will go on until Iran achieves the desired results.

Iran on Sunday launched Zafar satellite with the Simorgh satellite carrier from the Imam Khomeini National Space Center.

Although the homegrown satellite could not finish the orbit insertion phase, the bulk of the research targets were achieved after the launch.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi has announced that the Zafar-II satellite will be launched in the Iranian month of Khordad (May/June 2020).

“They’re clearly at a heightened state of alert. Is that heightened state of alert to be better prepared defensively or to be better prepared offensively? That can’t be determined at this point,” the official said. “But we’re watching it closely.”

Following the assassination of Iran’s IRGC Quds Force Commander Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani and Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) Chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis along with 8 others, in a US terrorist assault in Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on Friday, Iran vowed a harsh vengeance “in due time and right place” awaits criminals behind Soleimani’s assassination.

The bodies of the martyred commander and his Iranian companions were first transferred to the Iranian cities of Ahvaz and Mashhad, where massive funeral processions were held on Sunday. The cortege arrived in Tehran Monday morning, and will be heading to the holy city of Qom and finally to his hometown Kerman in the southeast for burial on Tuesday.

Both Soleimani and Muhandis were popular figureheads putting a stop to the rise of ISIL terrorism which once came as close as 30 km to Baghdad, while the US withdrew troops from Iraq and did nothing to stop the terrorists’ advances.

“Delegations from Chinese and Russian naval forces are here in Iran today and joint military drills are to be carried out in the near future to showcase the power of the Islamic Republic,” he said.

On February 24, Ghadir-class submarine successfully launched a cruise missile during the ‘Velayat-97’ drills in the Sea of Oman.

This was the first time Iran achieved the knowhow to launch missiles from the depth of sea to surface targets.

According to reports, other Iranian submarines such as Tareq and Fateh are also capable of launching such cruise missiles.

Submarine systems of the Navy, to launch a variety of torpedoes, dealt with surface and subsurface threats on the second day of massive three-day drill ‘Velayat-97’.

The Ghadir-class submarines are designed to cruise within the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has created a sophisticated network of underground and arms caches, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said.

In a television program on Monday night, General Hajizadeh said Iran had come up with the idea of underground storage of missiles more than three decades ago as part of a plan to hide and shield its missile capabilities from the enemies.

The commander said the idea of “underground missile cities” in Iran was developed in 1984, even before the country took delivery of the first foreign missile.

He said the construction of subterranean tunnels has been in progress “round the clock” since the first tunnel was dug in 1984.

“Very complex tunnels have been dug under the ground and mountains to store ammunition, missiles, equipment and even (protecting) personnel,” the commander added.

General Hajizadeh also noted that Iran is among a handful of countries with the know-how to design and manufacture missiles with pin-point accuracy.

“We are the top missile power in the region at present, and among the seven or eight leading countries (in the missile industry) in the world,” he added.

The IRGC general also unveiled plans for the production of a homegrown radar system that could lock onto and destroy targets when in motion, unlike the conventional stationary radars.

In October 2015, when pictures from the first Iranian missile city dug some 500 meters under a mountain were broadcast, Brigadier General Hajizadeh had announced that the facility was only one of the numerous bases scattered across the country.

The IRGC said later that what was shown in October 2015 was footage from its “oldest” warehouse for stockpiling missiles. Commanders also said that the Iranian guided missiles, with a range of 2,000 kilometers and pinpoint accuracy, can annihilate any fixed or mobile base at any distance with a zero margin of error.

Around 3 months later, the IRGC Aerospace Force made public another missile city. Seen among the gear stored in a seemingly impregnable mountain base are the country’s “Emad” long-range ballistic missiles on their launch vehicles among underground arms deposits.
