In a Tuesday press conference, the spokesman said that the court has also sentenced Nematzadeh to 74 lashes and fined with some $345,000 on charges of creating ‘major disruption in the distribution of public goods’.

Shabnam Nematzadeh, along with the other convict Ahmad Reza Lashkaripour, has also been permanently barred from public service.

She was arrested in September on charges of economic corruption in the medical industry. She is the daughter of Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, former minister of industry, mines, and trade.

The spokesman also said that the case of Vice-President Jahangiri’s brother, who has also been charged with corruption, will be sent to the court and proceedings have already begun.

Earlier this year, the president’s brother had been convicted of bribery and corruption, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison. The spokesman said he had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison but his sentence later reduced to five years.

Esmaili also said Fereydoon might face further charges in other cases.

Fereydoon’s case had been ongoing for more than two years after dozens of lawmakers at the Iranian parliament had demanded him to be brought to justice to face financial corruption charges.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – There is no serious shortage of medicine or medical equipment in Iran, Minister of Health Saeed Namaki said.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the health minister said Iran has not faced any severe shortage of medicine although the enemies have waged an economic war against the country.

The medicine shortage at the present time has dropped to one-third what it used to be last year, Namaki added.

Unveiling plans to inaugurate 1,000 new health and medical projects, he said the Health Ministry has launched the second stage of a grand plan focusing on the prevention of diseases.

In comments in October, Namaki said Iran was exporting pharmaceuticals to countries in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia.

Earlier in September, Secretary of Biotechnology Development Headquarter at the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology said Iranian biopharmaceuticals were being exported to major customers like Russia, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Turkey, adding that plans were underway to transfer Iranian biopharmaceuticals technology to Argentina.

The Independent News reported earlier that US sanctions have seriously impacted humanitarian trade with Iran, limiting the import of life-saving medicine into the country and endangering the lives of Iranian patients, according to a new report.

The report conducted by Human Rights Watch says patients in Iran suffering from special and rare diseases, such as cancer and epilepsy, dependent on imported medicine and therefore are suffering from the negative effects of sanctions.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Secretary General of Iran-South Korea Joint Chamber of Commerce says U.S. sanctions against Iran have adversely affected commercial relations with Korea.

Speaking to ILNA news agency, Pouya Firouzi added “The government and private sector of Korean pharmaceutical companies want to have relations with Iran, so in this circumstance we can easily bypass US sanctions and use alternatives ways. “

“Raw materials of medicine are not imported into the country via South Korea, but as we know Korean companies don’t refuse to sell medicine to Iran,” he said.

He added that these companies are pushing to resolve the banking problems between the two countries as soon as possible and trying to work with the Korean authorities to resolve this problem.

“After imposing sanctions on Iran’s central bank, the Korean banks could no longer continue their cooperation with Iran, and it can be said that there is no banking transaction between the two countries right now.”

Firouzi said Medicines and foods are not subject to sanctions, but lack of cooperation of Korean pharmaceutical companies with Iranian peers can be related to the problem in the field of financial transfers and banking issues.

South Korean pharmaceutical companies claim that there is not any problem in this field but Iran’s major pharmaceutical companies acknowledge that there is serious problem in the field of importing medicines and pharmaceutical raw materials into the country.

According to South Korea’s customs, the country’s exports to Iran during the past five months have been ten times smaller than the amount in the similar period last year reaching just $148 million.

South Korea is the 5th largest export economy in the world and the 6th most complex economy according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI).
