Asian Handball Championship; Iran won Kuwait

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran defeated hosting Kuwait 28-24 at the 2020 Asian Men’s Handball Championship on Monday.

Team Melli will play Qatar and Korea Republic in Group 2 on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Group 1 includes Bahrain, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, while Iran are in Group 2 along Qatar, South Korea is and Kuwait.

The 2020 Men’s Handball Championship of Asia is the 19th edition of the championship held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation at Kuwait City, Kuwait from Jan. 16 to 27.

It acts as the qualifying tournament for Asia in the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship in Egypt.

Asian Handball Championship Opening with Iran, New Zealand match

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran will kick off the 2020 Asian Men’s Handball Championship opening match with playing against New Zealand on Friday.

Team Melli, in Asian Men’s Handball Championship opening, will play New Zealand in Group A at the Shaikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Hall Complex in Kuwait City and face Bahrain a day later.

Group B consists of Qatar, Japan, and China.

South Korea, Australia, and Saudi Arabia are in Group C and Kuwait, Iraq, the UAE, and Hong Kong are drawn in Group D.

Iran Handball Team Camps in Qatar

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran national handball team left Tehran on Tuesday to hold a 10-day training camp in Qatar as part of the preparation for the 2020 Asian Men’s Handball Championship.

Iran handball team will play several friendly matches with Qatar league clubs in the camp.

The 2020 Asian Men’s Handball Championship is the 19th edition of the championship held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation.

The championship will be held in Kuwait City, Kuwait from January 16 to 27, 2020.

It acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship.

Iran has been drawn in Pool A along with Bahrain and New Zealand.

Pool B consists of Qatar, Japan, and China. South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Australia are in Pool C.

Host Kuwait is drawn in Pool D along with the UAE, Iraq and Hong Kong.

Earlier this season, Iran national handball team was defeated against Qatar in a friendly match.

Last month, the Asian Handball Confederation has granted the right to host the competition to Iran.

The competition will be held in the southern city of Shiraz, Fars Province from July 10 to 22, 2020.

The Iran handball federation will be hosting an Asian tournament after six years.

Iran handball not qualified for 2020 Olympics

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian men’s national handball team was held with a 36-36 draw against Kuwait on Tuesday in the 2019 AHF Men’s Asian qualification.

Earlier in the competition, underway in Doha, Iran handball team managed to defeat South Korea in the opening match but suffered a 29-26 defeat against Bahrain in the second step. In the other match of the group B on Tuesday, South Korea edged Bahrain 31-30.

Bahrain and South Korea advanced to the semifinal with four points each while Iran stood third with three points, missing the chance to win the Olympics quota.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar from Group A have made it to the semifinals.

Iran will continue its competition in the event for the 5th-8th place in the coming days.

The winners of the tournament will book their ticket through to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The runners-up will qualify for the IHF Olympic qualification in April.
