Marking the Administration’s Week, Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the three new projects in energy field, at a videoconference on Monday morning.

Implemented with a total investment of €4.7 billion, the projects include the development and improvement of the gas dispatching site and a series of gas pipelines in the national network, the first phase of Bushehr petrochemical plant, as well as a 500-MW combined cycle power plant in the West Karun area and its adjoining power transfer equipment and station.

The 1,200-km pipelines from the sixth section of the national gas network have the capacity to transfer 110 million cubic meters of gas from the South Pars gas field to the western provinces every day.

Another 125-kilometer pipeline was added to the ninth section of the countrywide network that stretches from the western areas of Behbahan into the Bazargan border crossing and north of Maku in northwestern Iran to supply 60 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The new pipeline would ensure sustainable gas supplies in the country’s cold regions and would also allow for exports and energy exchanges with regional countries.

The first phase of Bushehr petrochemical plant includes a gas sweetening section and units producing ethane, methanol, oxygen, and 9.6 million cubic meters of input per day for the South Pars refineries.

The 500-MW West Karun combined cycle power plant is also the other major project that would generate power for the oil and gas fields west of Karun River, including the North and South Azadegan as well as North and South Yaran oilfields.

The project also includes electricity transition equipment and gas pressure reduction station at the power plant.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Gas injection into the nationwide pipeline by an Iranian company grew 18 percent year-on-year during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20-April 19, 2020), despite the coronavirus spread in Iran, said the firm’s CEO.

Rouhollah Nourian, the managing director of Ilam Gas Treating Company (IGTC), added that since the beginning of the current year (March 20) – designated as the ‘Year of Surge in Domestic Production’ by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the company’s staff have made considerable efforts to boost output and guarantee the sustainability of their production, Shana reported.

He noted that this increase in gas injection into the national pipeline had been done despite the difficulties caused by the spread of the coronavirus in Iran.

During this period, rich gas supply to the company witnessed an increase of close to 20 percent year-on-year, Nourian said, adding the firm’s molten sulfur output also grew 25 percent compared to the figure for the same period last year.

He stressed that IGTC has drawn up plans to further diversify its products and increase its total output in the current year, saying that during the 30-day period the company’s production of sulfur pastilles rose 15 percent, year-on-year.

Causing a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, the coronavirus first erupted in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year before growing into a global pandemic. The outbreak of the virus in Iran began in late February.

“Of the two last platforms at South Pars gas field, one was installed today and the next platform will be installed before (March 20),” Iran oil minister, Zanganeh said, according to Reuters.

“And so we will have all the platforms of the 27 phases of South Pars, which will enable us to produce more than one billion cubic meters of gas per day.”

South Pars, which Qatar calls North Field, is the world’s largest gas field and is shared between Iran and Qatar.

Separately, Zanganeh said that coronavirus is to blame for price fluctuations in the oil market and economy in the globe as well.

Several countries in the region have closed their borders with Iran and put in place air travel restrictions after people infected with coronavirus arrived from the Islamic Republic by flights or so.

Despite the air travel restrictions, Zanganeh said that he would attend a meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna next week using Iran Air flights.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s South Pars Gas Field has reached a total daily production of 630 million cubic meters (mcm), according to the managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company.

Mohammad Meshkinfam said that the current daily consumption of natural gas in Iran is nearly equal to half of Europe’s, reported Press TV.

He said that South Pars, the world’s largest gas field, located in the Persian Gulf and shared with Qatar, is responsible for nearly 70 percent of Iran’s total gas consumption.

Meshkinfam said dozens of drilling rigs deployed at various phases of the South Pars were operating at full capacity to respond to the growing demand for heat energy in Iran.

He said his company was prepared to restore production at any of those drilling rigs that might face disruptions due to technical problems that might occur during the winter months.

The government should come up with new solutions to control excessive use of gas in the country, Meshkinfam said.

The surge of production at South Pars gas field comes after Iran started extracting more than 28 mcm per day of gas from two new platforms installed at phases 14 and 23 of the gas field.

Meshkinfam said production from another rig at Phase 24, known as Platform 24B, would start within the next two weeks.

He said a “sail-out” operation for Platform 14D, the last of four rigs planned for Phase 14 of South Pars, was now over and engineers were waiting for better weather conditions to install the rig in the Persian Gulf waters.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Sunday that Iran is exporting oil products due to the development of its gas supply know-how and giant South Pars (SP) field.

Iran has various gas resources and 95 percent of the population has direct access to the gas network, Zanganeh said, reported IRNA.

No country in the world has as many natural gas vehicles as Iran, he boasted.

Iran has discovered new huge oilfield with an estimated 53 billion barrels of crude oil in the southern province of Khuzestan.

The oilfield named Namavaran is one of the biggest ones discovered in Iran, the minister noted.

The field has an area of 2,400 square kilometers and is about 80 meters deep, Zanganeh explained.

The Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) CEO said in November that daily gas extraction from the South Pars Gas Field would reach 680 million cubic meters (mcm) when new platforms become operational.

Mohammad Meshkinfam added the current gas extraction from the field, jointly shared with Qatar, stands at 630 mcm per day.

According to the plans drawn up for the year to March 2020, domestic companies are assiduously implementing development projects in phases 13, 14, 22 and 24, he added.

The managing director stressed that since SP is a joint gas field, it is of great importance to focus on raising gas extraction from it, adding among the company’s major goals in the year to March 2020 is to complete the development projects of the offshore sections of the phases 13, 14, 22 and 24.

He added gas extracted by the two main platforms of the phases 23 and 24B will be processed and injected into the nationwide network after the completion of hookup and commissioning operations in the two phases.

After coming on stream, the new platforms of the phases 22-24 will raise daily gas production in the field by 28 mcm (one billion cubic feet).

Describing the progress of the operations for development of South Pars Phase 14 as favorable, Meshkinfam said at present, platform B14 of the offshore section of the phase is fully operational and as soon as the completion of a five-kilometer pipeline between phases 14 and 12 becomes operational, it will begin gas extraction.

He noted that the pipeline will begin gas transfer within two weeks.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s South Pars daily gas production will reach one billion cubic meters (bcm) by March 2020, which would be a miraculous achievement at a time when the country is under severe unilateral sanctions imposed by the US, said an Iranian MP.

In May 2018, President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed between Iran and the P5+1 in July 2015, and reimposed Washington’s unilateral sanctions on Tehran.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Ali Bakhtiar, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee, added this will be accomplished in light of the completion of the development projects of a number of the phases of the South Pars (SP) Gas Field in the Persian Gulf by the same date.

Iran jointly owns the field with Qatar, which calls its part of the world’s largest gas reserve, the North Dome, and recently managed to overtake the Arab country in extraction from the joint field.

He described by developing South Pars fields, Iran’s being ahead of Qatar in gas production from the field as a great achievement, while being under strict US sanctions, adding that the country had accomplished this over the past 12 months while none of the world’s major companies were cooperating with it.

“Iran managed to get past Qatar in gas extraction from SP while relying on domestic companies’ capabilities. This comes as the Qataris have been cooperating all the while with all of the world’s leading companies in production from the field.”

He noted that Iran sits on the world’s biggest hydrocarbon (oil and gas together) reserves.

“At present, no country can officially purchase oil from Iran as the US has ended waivers from its unilateral sanctions for customers of Iranian crude. Nevertheless, even under the present difficult circumstances, we have certain techniques to bypass the sanctions. We are currently continuing our oil exports although at a slower pace and in a smaller volume [compared to the pre-sanctions era].”

Bakhtiar said the US has failed to make its dream of reducing Iran’s oil exports to zero come true, noting that in November 2018, when the white House announced that it would bring Iran’s overseas sales of crude to zero, “we put our crude cargo on sale on Iran Energy Exchange (IRENEX) and managed to sell our oil in one of the most transparent markets.”

Elaborating further on Iran’s strategy of selling oil through IRENEX, he added that over the past few years, the ground became prepared for, first, selling petrochemicals and, then, offering oil byproducts.

Offering oil on the domestic stock exchange began following the achievement to sell oil byproducts on IRENEX, the lawmaker said, describing the experience as successful.

Turning to problems involved in offering crude oil on IRENEX, he said the drawbacks can be overcome, making the continuation of the process definitely possible.

“We are required to use the domestic capital market to sell oil, particularly, as Iranians are willing to purchase crude through the stock exchange.”

It is interesting for them to be able to use their capital for buying crude oil on the stock exchange, he said.

Bakhtiar said the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee is studying and exploring different techniques and strategies for selling oil and will welcome and support new plans and ideas to this end.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Managing Director of Iranian Electrical Power Equipment Manufacturing and Provision Company says the country is fully able to produce and export all equipment and services needed for the construction of gas power plants.

“Our ability for manufacturing and supplying water and electricity equipment has reached a point where we are not only able to fully meet our domestic demand but also export it to other countries,” Mohammad-Vali Alaedini told IRIB on Tuesday.

“The ministry has set some goals in this regard, which are going to be implemented and achieved by SATKAB,” he said.

He mentioned Iraq, Armenia, Syria and Tajikistan as some of the export destinations for Iranian energy equipment and services, adding “We have achieved 80 percent self-sufficiency in construction of wind power plants, while in construction of gas power plants, hydroelectric power plants and dams we are completely self-sufficient and exporting services to other countries.”

Tajikistan is one of the export destinations that, considering their satisfaction with the works of Iranian engineers, is forming a joint working group with Iran for further imports of engineering services, Alaedini noted.

Since the electricity sector accounts for the lion’s share of Iran’s technical and engineering exports, and also given that Iranian companies’ presence in water projects of other countries (construction of dams, water and wastewater treatment plants, and water transferring pipelines) is rising, Energy Ministry of Iran is seriously following up the objective of boosting technical and engineering services exports from electricity and water sectors.

Of the water and electricity projects under implementation by an Iranian company in a foreign country, it could be referred to as the project for building a dam, a water transferring tunnel and a 120-MW power plant in Sri Lanka which is already 94 percent complete.

According to the Association of Iranian Exporters of Technical and Engineering Services, Iran has the potential and capability to export technical and engineering services worth $25 billion in a year.

Some Iranian companies including Mapna Group have already had a fruitful presence in the completion of infrastructure projects in several countries including Iraq and Oman and if such contribution will be expanded it will be a good source of export revenues while job creation.

The offshore gas field has been discovered 3,900 meters deep in the ground, and it is said to be capable of production for 16 years of gas consumption in capital Tehran.

Seyed Saleh Hendi, the exploration manager at the National Iranian Oil Company, confirmed the discovery of the gas field, saying “the field was discovered after one year of constant exploration in southern parts of Iran.”

Further details about the gas field will be soon disclosed by the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, according to the report.

According to the Iran Petroleum Ministry, the proved natural gas reserves of Iran are about 1,201 trillion cubic feet (34.0 trillion cubic metres) or about 17.8% of world’s total reserves, of which 33% are as associated gas and 67% is in non associated gas fields. It has the world’s second largest reserves after Russia.[1][2] As it takes approximately 5,850 cubic feet (166 m3) of gas to equal the energy content of 1-barrel (0.16 m3) of oil, Iran’s gas reserves represent the equivalent of about 205 billion barrels (3.26×1010 m3) of oil.

The US Energy Information Administration estimated Iran’s proved gas reserves as of 2016 to be 1,201 trillion cubic feet (34.0 trillion cubic metres),[3] rendering it second in the world.
