The delegation to Afghanistan will be led by Homayoun Ha’eri, the Iranian deputy energy minister, reported Mehr News Agency.

Talking about the wind corridor at the Iran-Afghanistan joint border is among the important issues to be discussed during the trip.

The corridor will be one of the best areas to install wind farms to convert wind energy into electricity.

An exhibition of the achievements of the Iranian electricity industry is also scheduled to be held in Afghanistan. Investors, traders and officials of the Afghan electricity industry will visit the exhibition.

Based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in August 2019, Iran repairs damaged electric transformers and turbines of power plants in Afghanistan.

The MoU was signed by Ha’eri and the Director General of Tavanir Mohammad Hassan Motavalizadeh on the Iranian side, and Amanallah Ghaleb, the director general of Afghanistan Electricity Company, on the Afghan side.

In the MoU, the two sides emphasized the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of “repairing the worn-out power transmission equipment,” “construction of armor lines,” “synchronization of the two countries’ grids,” and other issues related to the electricity industry.

During the meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Zanganeh described the energy sector as the most important part of Iran-Armenia talk, adding that bartering gas for electricity with Armenia is one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries, Shana reported.

Iran and Armenia signed a gas-for-electricity barter deal in 2004 for 20 years.

According to the contract, Iran’s exported gas is consumed by power plants in Armenia and Iran imports electricity from Armenia in return.

On Saturday, Papikyan voiced his country’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Iran, especially in the field of energy and electricity.

“Armenian companies welcome participating in the 20th Iran International Electricity Exhibition,” Papkiyan said.

The minister said that Armenia as the importer of electricity has always been after finding new ways for finding energy sources and boosting cooperation.

He, meantime, pointed to synchronization of the Iran-Iraq electricity network and said that Armenia has also suitable economic relations with Iraq and which will be developed further.

Papkiyan said that like Armenia which is a bridge for connecting Iran to Georgia and Eurasian Economic Union states, Iran is also regarded as a bridge for more relations between Armenia, Iraq and other regional countries.

Iran-Armenia talk over energy trade between the two countries was focused on regional relations.
