“Bavar-373 system was initially capable of destroying targets at 200 kilometers and now the upgraded system, aiming to attack targets at very long ranges, [including] ballistic missiles, fighter aircraft, and bombers can destroy targets at 300 kilometers,” Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said on Sunday during the unveiling ceremony.

The missile system can engage up to six targets at a time and destroy them, he said, stressing that many technologically advanced countries aspire to possess such a system.

According to a report in the long-range test of the Bavar-373 system, a stationary target was detected at a range of more than 450 kilometers by the optimized radar of the Bavar 373 system, and it was tracked at a range of about 405 kilometers and was hit and destroyed at a range of more than 300 kilometers.

The Bavar-373 system detection radar was said to have increased from 350 to 450 kilometers, and the range of its engagement range has risen from 260 to 400 kilometers, the report added.

It also noted that the missile range has gone from 200 to 300 kilometers, and its engagement altitude has increased from 27 to 32 kilometers.

The report also announced the launching of the Sayad B4 missile’s production line (pictured below), saying the long-range missile, running on solid propellant, was operationally evaluated for the first time.

The Bavar-373 system was formally unveiled during a ceremony attended by former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on August 22, 2019. It was reported at the time that the road-mobile system can detect targets or planes at more than 300 kilometers, lock them at about 250 kilometers, and destroy them at 200 kilometers.

Iran for the first time employed the homegrown Bavar-373 missile defense system during a joint air defense exercise, codenamed ‘Guardians of Velayat Sky-99’, in late October 2020.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made substantial headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, saying the Islamic Republic’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country, the defense industry’s experts made round-the-clock efforts and conducted research and managed to mass-produce thermal cameras used to screen the people for detecting coronavirus patients, according to the Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Department.

Speaking at a ceremony held on Wednesday to unveil the advanced thermal cameras, the managing director of Iran Electronics Industries said the Defense Ministry regards the suffering of the people as its own.

Defense industry experts have managed to produce state-of-the-art thermal cameras that have been completely designed by domestic technology and software through mobilizing all scientific capacities, he added.

Iran’s administration on Thursday extended the closure of all schools and universities nationwide until the end of the current Iranian year (March 19) as the country is struggling with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

First detected in Wuhan city in central China in December, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries.

More than 4,200 people have died of COVID-19 across the world, and more than 113,000 people have also been infected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). About 64,000 people have also recovered from the illness, globally.

The death toll from the COVID-19 outbreak in Iran has risen to 291. Meanwhile, more than 2,700 coronavirus patients have recovered from respiratory disease and discharged from hospitals so far.

The top commander said the military drone has been developed in two versions and is aimed for conducting long reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

Brigadier General Sabahifard noted that Kian has been fully designed and developed by Iranian experts and technicians within a one-year period.

“The unmanned vehicle can hit targets way beyond the country’s borders and can start its defensive mission on enemies’ soil,” he said.

Speaking on Saturday, the Army Air Defense commander referred to the Islamic Republic’s significant defensive developments in recent years, saying the defense sector “is ahead of its predicted plans.”

“The train of air defense is on the rail of progress and in the Second Phase of the Revolution, it will offer many surprises which will reassure friends and frighten enemies,” he added.

Referring to recent achievements of air defense, namely Bavar-373 missile system and Falagh radar, the commander added that this progress shows Iran is capable of designing and manufacturing different equipment in the defense sector.

The most recent unveiling came last week as domestically made Bavar-373 air defense system came on stream. The country unveiled a state-of-the-art air defense missile system last week (August 22) dubbed “Bavar-373”, which has been completely designed and manufactured by military experts of the Islamic Republic.

The long-range air defense system is capable of detecting up to 100 targets, tracking 60 of them, and engage with six concurrently. A distinguishing feature of Bavar-373 is its vertical launching system with square launchers, mostly used for air defense on warships.

Bavar-373 uses a long-range, phased array fire-control radar, dubbed Me’raj-4. The air defense system employs three different types of missiles to hit targets at various altitudes.

He said that Iran has made considerable progress in aerospace fields, including in the production of aircraft, missiles, drones, and engines.

Bagheri said that before the Islamic Revolution, Iran was importing almost all its required equipment in military and non-military fields, however, sanctions closed doors of such imports. Iran understood that it cannot keep pace with different threats unless it attains the required technologies and industries, he added.

“Today, defensive industries are driving other industrial sectors of the country forward,” he highlighted, providing an example that recent production of some key auto parts by Defense Ministry solved problems of domestic automakers.

This valuable progress demonstrated that sanctions, as an assumed means for putting pressure on Iranian people and Armed Forces, can be seen as an opportunity for development, said the commander.

Describing about modern Ghaem series of missiles, he added that they are equipped with three different types of seekers including thermal ones and can be installed on various air crafts, helicopters and drones.
