TEHRAN (Iran News) – Director of the Cinema Organization of Iran Hossein Entezami emphasized holding more film festivals online.

He wrote on his Twitter account, “Cinema is not passive. Therefore, it is expected that organizers of film festivals would be more innovative thanks to the coronavirus outbreak: Maximizing the number of online programs in each section (competition, screening, education, and market), increasing the number of viewers, reducing costs and contingent behavior,” IRNA reported.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected several major film events.

The Fajr International Film Festival, Iran’s major film event that is organized every year in April, was first postponed and then canceled amid growing concerns over the virus.

The organizers of the 33rd Isfahan International Film Festival for Children and Youth, and the 14th edition of the Cinema Vérité, Iran’s major international festival for documentary films, announced that the events would be organized entirely online due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the country.

In addition, Entezami recently announced that the organization is searching for a safe platform to organize the Fajr Film Festival online if the pandemic continues until February 2021.

Qotbi’s film features Afshin Hashemi, Behnaz Naderi, and the child actress Aylin Rashidian.

Co-written by Behrouz Rashad and Hamidreza Qotbi, ‘That Night’s Train’ is an adaptation of a novel by Ahmad Akbarpour.

The film is about a little girl who meets a female writer when she is on a train. The writer promises to call and visit her later. The promise, in the writer’s mind, is just a theme for her new story, thus embarking on a merge of fantasy with reality.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Alireza Shojanuri, the star of Majid Majidi’s 2015 blockbuster “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God” about the life of Muhammad (S), will play the title role in “Salman Farsi”, a TV series about the life story of the Iranian companion of the Prophet of Islam.

Shojanuri will portray Salman’s middle-age and old-age, director Davud Mirbaqeri said on Saturday during Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Managing Director Abdolali Aliasgari’s visit to the Iran Television and Cinema Town.

Aliasgari also planted a rose to celebrate launching the construction of a set for the TV series in the town.

“No project as large as ‘Salman Farsi’ has been produced by IRIB,” noted Mirbaqeri who has turned stories from the history of Islam into series such as “Mokhtarnameh” and “Imam Ali (AS)”.

Mirbaqeri said that he will begin filming “Salman Farsi” on location on Qesham Island in southern Iran in late autumn.

Salman Farsi was one of several individuals of Persian origin residing in Arabia, probably as a consequence of Sassanid involvement in Yemen. He was among the freedmen (mawali) of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and became the model of Persian converts and the symbol of the role that Persia and Persians would play in the future of Islam.

According to certain traditional narrations, Salman Farsi was the first who translated parts of the Holy Quran into Persian during the 7th century.

The plan to make “Salman Farsi” was first announced in April 2018.

The story of the series will be recounted over three seasons, the first of which will be set in the Sassanid cities of Gabae, modern Isfahan, and Ctesiphon located about 35 kilometers southeast of present-day Baghdad, Mirbaqeri said at that time.

“The second season covers the period of Salman Farsi’s life when he lived in the Byzantine Empire, and the third season is about the rise of Islam and the life of Salman in Mecca and Medina where he was in the company of the Prophet (S),” he added.

The necessary sets for the first season will be made in Iran, and the second season will be shot on location in Armenia, Turkey and Morocco, where Mirbaqeri is scheduled to hire a local cast.

The third season will be shot on a set where “Muhammad, the Messenger of God” was filmed.

He estimated that the series, with Alireza Shojanuri participation, would take about five years to complete.

TEHRAN – The organizers of the Iran Cinema Celebration announced on Tuesday that the winners of the gala will be announced without any award ceremony due to the current economic climate in the country.

“The decision was made by the organizers based on the current situation of the country, which has encountered cultural and economic problems, and we felt we must do our share,” Iranian House of Cinema director Manuchehr Shahsavari said during a press conference.

“We are passing through days filled with sorrow, and considering our deep patriotic feelings, we decided to hold the celebration with good film judgment but avoid any big ceremony,” he explained.

“This was a hard decision for us because we were supposed to enjoy a good day but this is a group decision,” he said.

Actor Ali Nasirian, the president of the 20th edition of the Iran Cinema Celebration, also hoped that the celebration would be held with the best way possible filled with kindness and friendship.

“We must avoid any unfriendly behaviors. These types of celebrations are held to promote peace and friendship,” Nasirian said.

Cinematographer Turaj Mansuri, the secretary of the policy-making council of Iran Cinema Celebration, also present at the event, said that no decision has been made on how to hold the celebration, adding, “There have been different propositions such as announcing the winners through the media or live on TV, however, our main goal is to reduce expenses”

The Iranian House of Cinema organizes the celebration annually to commemorate Iran’s National Day of Cinema on September 12.

However, this year the date coincides with the Muharram mourning season, and the exact date of the gala will be announced later.
