TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian director Lida Fazli’s animation, ‘This Side, Other Side,’ received the UNICEF Award of the 15th Biennial of Animation Bratislava, an international festival of animated films for children that took place in the Slovakian capital from October 5 to 10.

The award is given to a film made to protect the rights of children.

A statement from the Biennial of Animation Bratislava jury panel said the film conveys a realistic message about the relationship between a mother and her child.

The short animation shows how the children of two opposite sides of a border cherish each other’s company, regardless of the fact that their countries are burning in the fire of a war that the adults have brought upon them.

In an exclusive interview with ifilmtv.com, Fazli said that her animation intends to show that when it comes to children’s amity and friendship, no borders or wars can come between them. The animation carries a message of peace.

The animated movie is a production from Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center.

The film has already competed in the 36th Cartoon Club Festival in Italy; the official selection of the 4th Hong Kong Kid’s International Film Festival, known as Kidfest Hong Kong; Animage International Film Festival in Brazil; the Smile International Film Festival for Children & Youth in India; the IFVA Awards in China; the Termeh Iranian Cultural Festival in Germany; and the competition section of the 11th Golden Kuker Sofia Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.

In 2018, ‘Icky,’ by Iranian director Parastu Kardgar, won the UNICEF Award. The film uses original means to tackle the issue of difference and integration and lifts up the unique nature of an individual, echoing UNICEF’s work ethos.
