Iran’s International Flights Increased by 64%

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The number of international flights of Iran’s airlines in the month to August 21 increased 64 percent compared to the 31-day period to July 21.

Iranian airlines carried 177,511 people on domestic routes and 141, 44 people on international routes during July 22-August 21, showing 37 percent and 30 percent growth respectively, Fars News Agency reported.

The national carrier, Iran Air, had a growth of 26 percent in the mentioned month by carrying 2.216 million tons of cargo.

The total number of flights of Iranian airlines in the said period was 2,938 sorties, 13 percent higher than the previous month.

Meantime, reports said in September that the number of foreign flights passing through the Iranian airspace had increased in the past months amid the coronavirus outbreak in the world.

Figures and data provided by the Iran Airports Company show that the number of passenger and cargo flights passing via the country’s sky has grown in the fifth month of the current Iranian year (July 22-August 21) and increased to 8,431 flights compared with the previous month.

Foreign states have resumed their flights via Iran’s airspace after a halt due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

IKAC to launch four infrastructural projects this week

Managing Director of IKAC Ali Rostami said on Monday that the projects include, a new airport operation control center (AOCC), and provision of smart airside vehicles and a slope at Terminal 1 for easy access to parking, as well as a new fuel line connecting the fuel station to the lanes, IKAC News reported.

The referred to the “great investment potentials of Imam Khomeini Airport City,” saying that grounds have been provided to attract domestic and foreign investors to take part in IKAC’s major projects.

The move to expand the airport’s throughput capacities comes in line with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s policy to evolve IKIA into a major cargo and passenger hub in the Middle East.

The airport’s free trade zone was launched in June.

Connecting IKIA to the international transportation networks, including the East-West and North-South corridors, as well as linking it to the national railway and Tehran’s subway system are among the main steps to achieve such a goal.

IKAC, which includes a 1,500-hectare free trade zone and a 2,500-hectare special economic zone in a 13,700-hectare area, aims to help national and international companies to cluster around the airport and engage in business activities, the deputy said.

Among the other objectives pursued by IKAC are: Creating sustainable sources of income to improve aeronautical, cargo and passenger operations, boosting foreign exchange revenues, creating sustainable economic growth, increasing airline companies’ revenues, and enriching the connection time of transiting passengers.

Emergency Operations Center opens at Iran Airports Company

A Safety and Emergency Operations Center was inaugurated on Sunday at the Iran Airports Company. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami, and the head of National Disaster Management Organization of Iran, Esmaeil Najjar.

The center provides safety information during emergency situations, such as the assessment of incidents and disasters, reports received from pilots working at airlines, as well as operational performance monitoring reports.

The Safety and Emergency Operations Center at the Iran Airports Company aims at macro management and issuing notices and warnings about incidents and unexpected natural disasters.

According to the CEO of the Iran Airports Company, Siavash Amir-Mokri, the center will act as an aviation safety monitoring center during normal situations, and will act as a crisis management center at times of emergency.

The Iran Airports Company (IAC) is the holding and operating company for civilian airports in Iran. Its headquarters is located at Tehran Mehrabad International Airport but it has offices at all Airports in Iran.

Flights underway normally through Iranian airspace: CAO

“No foreign airliner has submitted a statement to CAO regarding the change of routes or avoidance from flying over the country’s skies”, Ali Abedzadeh made the remarks in response to the claims that some foreign airlines have canceled direct flights to Iran or through its airspace, following Iran’s shoot-down of a US spy drone, which violated its territorial airspace over the Persian Gulf waters on Thursday.

Noting that Iran’s airspace is completely safe both over the Persian Gulf and inside the country, he said flights over the country’s skies have not decreased and are underway normally.

Thanks to the security of the Iranian airspace, Abedzadeh said, “Over the past two years, and amid the tensions in the region, the number of flights in Iran’s skies has increased to over 1,000 per day.”

Qatar Airways launches Doha-Isfahan flight route

The director general of Isfahan Province Airports Company says the first Doha-Isfahan flight by Qatar Airways was operated on Monday.

According to Hassan Amjadi, an Airbus A320 operated by Qatar Airways landed in Isfahan’s Shahid Beheshti International Airport this morning to mark the first flight of the Doha-Isfahan route.

He added that Qatar Airways will have two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays to the central Iranian city.

Shahid Beheshti International Airport is the fourth Iranian airport hosting Qatar Airway passenger jets, he added.

Qatar Airways now has permanent flight routes to four major Iranian cities of Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad, and Isfahan.

Earlier, Qatar Airways announced that it will add two weekly flights to its existing Doha-Tehran route and add three weekly flights on its Shiraz service in January.

Previous reports quoted Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker as saying, “These latest launches are further evidence of Qatar Airways’ commitment to Iran, as well as the expansion of our network in this thriving market.”
