Iran’s Air Force Developing a Heavy Fighter Jet

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Air Force has kicked off developing a heavy fighter jet after success manufacturing of the Kowsar warplane, an Iranian military commander said on July 22.

Deputy Commander of the Air Force Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi exclusively told Tasnim News Agency that despite certain claims raised by critics about the Kowsar heavy fighter jet, the aircraft has nothing to do with the F-5 fighters.

Kowsar is an Iranian jet with indigenized avionics and homegrown engines, Commander Vahedi said.

The general also pointed to military projects to upgrade the radar capabilities of the Air Force’s planes, saying good progress has been made in this field.

Iran has also achieved great success in increasing the stealth capabilities of various types of aircraft, Brigadier General Vahedi said, noting that the new achievements will be unveiled after final tests.

The commander highlighted Iran’s progress in developing air-launched standoff missiles, saying local experts have extended the range of Sidewinder air-to-air missile, which is mounted on the F-5 jet, from 5 miles to 12 miles.

This enhanced range would be very effective in aerial combats, he added.

The general further pointed to the breakthrough that Iran has made in the drone industry, saying the homegrown Karrar pilotless aircraft has successfully dropped a 500-pound bomb which is going to become a weapon with pinpoint accuracy.

The Air Force has also furnished the Ababil-3 drones with rockets, Vahedi said, adding that programs are underway to equip the Ababil and Kaman UAVs with Qaem-1 and Qaem-5 smart bombs.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including air defense systems that use cutting-edge technologies.

Tehran has repeatedly stressed that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.

New Homegrown Fighter Delivered to Iran Air Force

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Defense Ministry on Thursday delivered three homegrown fighter jets to the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF).

The Iranian-made “Kowsar” fighter jets were officially delivered to the Army during a ceremony attended by Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

In 2018, Iran launched the mass production of the fourth-generation all-indigenous interceptor jet in a major step toward the renovation of its Air Force.

The Kowsar fighter jet, which has been designed to provide logistical support for ground operations, boasts advanced maneuvering capability and can be fitted with various projectiles.

Speaking during the Thursday ceremony, Brigadier General Hatami hailed efforts made by the country’s military experts to produce the jets amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and said, “Alongside the development of this aircraft, we have gained great achievements that are very valuable for the country”.

Various knowledge-based companies and universities of the country are cooperating with the military experts, the minister said, adding that the country would soon produce more advanced aerial equipment.

Iran Air Force progressive in electronic warfare

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The lieutenant commander of the Iran Air Force for coordination affairs said on Wednesday that his force has recently has made progress in the field of electronic warfare.

Electronic warfare (EW) is any action involving the use of the electromagnetic spectrum (EM spectrum) or directed energy to control the spectrum, attack an enemy, or impede enemy assaults.

Brigadier General Mahdi Hadian said that electronic warfare is among the most important influential techniques and equipment in the reinvigoration of combat might.

He further said, “Iran Air Force has gained important achievements in electronic warfare,” assuring the Iranians about the Air Force’s deterrent power which can counter the enemies’ state-of-art weapons.

Iran has increased its defense power in recent years by developing different types of weapons and equipment.

In March 2019, Commander of the Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh and Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari officially opened the mass-production lines of Kaman-12 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and Akhgar missiles.

In the ceremony, also the first aeronautical center, equipped with laser technology of Launch Services Program (LSP), was inaugurated in Army Aerospace Force Self Sufficiency Jihad Organization (ASF SSJO).

General Nasirzadeh said these achievements were made in sanctions conditions, adding, “This technology is also applicable in the medical industry, energy industry (gas-powered turbines) and also the automotive industry.”

Kaman-12, the first home-made wide-body drone with a jet engine, was unveiled in January 2019 in an exhibition held by Armed Forces in Tehran.
