TEHRAN (Iran News) – Every year and on last Friday of month of Ramadan, people especially Muslims across the world mark International Quds Day that was initiated by the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran the late Imam Khomeini in 1979 to express support for the Palestinians and oppose Zionism and Israel. Since then, the world has been awakened against the Zionists and reacted differently towards the Zionists’ atrocities by holding protest rallies or even approving resolutions and issuing statements against the occupier regime of Israel but they have not been enough to stop those atrocities and the world needs to take a serious measure against it.

In recent years, Israeli regime has ramped up its pressure on Palestinians either through military attacks, occupying lands or closing all economic channels of the Palestinians in order to make them give in continuing their intifada against the occupier regime.

Last week the Palestinian Foreign Ministry asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the forced relocation of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem al-Quds.

The ministry sent a letter pertaining to Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah to the ICC on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Melhem, a spokesman for the Palestinian Authority, said in a post on Facebook that the threat from the Israeli regime to seize Palestinian homes in the neighborhood violates international law.

In a letter sent to the chief prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, the ministry urged the prominent lawyer to include the issue at hand in the court’s investigation into Israeli war crimes against Palestinians.

The ICC opened the formal investigation in March.

“The forcible transfer of population and associated war crimes and crimes against humanity fall within the Rome Statute [of the International Criminal Court],” the official said.

In a statement on Sunday, Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, held the Israeli regime responsible for harming the inhabitants of Sheikh Jarrah.

Of course this is just a simple sign of the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians. Palestinians have tried to show the Zionists’ savage behavior but it needs a strong international action against this brutal regime.

The Zionists’ fear of Palestinians’ intifada is still alive especially now that Iran as a regional power supporting them in their fight against Israel. Some mischiefs by Israel against Iran were not left unanswered in recent days in order to show this occupier regime that Iran is not an easy prey to be devoured and they should wait for any retaliatory response from Iran or the resistance front.

The Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday that the recent string of monumental security disasters right inside the occupied territories shows the Israeli regime’s sheer vulnerability.

“Israel’s security bubble has burst,” Major General Hossein Salami told a televised interview.

He said the image that the regime had portrayed of itself through psychological operation has been destroyed, adding, “Today, you can see the [real] face of the Zionist regime in its actual proportions.”

‘Israel’s security, political, social disintegration’

So these remarks can encourage Palestinians to continue their struggle against Israel as they have the support of their brotherly country, Iran.

On Wednesday Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh said the Israeli regime’s repeated attacks against his country’s territory, sovereignty and independence threaten regional stability as well as international peace and security.

The diplomat said the two Israeli assaults are in flagrant violation of the international law, the UN Charter, Security Council Resolution 350 (1974) and the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria.

So one can see the Israeli atrocities are not just limited to the Palestinians as they carry out attacks on any country resisting against their land devouring habit. Unfortunately, major world powers support this regime and it emboldens Israel to continue this type of behavior, and one day the world should be united against these atrocities and put an end to it to save the Palestinians who are the victims of this occupier and savage regime which has disrupted peace and security in the region and even in the world.

International Quds Day rallies can help the world to take a serious action against Israel and this day should not be forgotten by Muslim countries as a day for showing their solidarity with the Palestinians who are fighting to save their lands and identities which are being overshadowed by the Israeli military force and the West.

So Muslims should always remain united on the Quds Day to show the world that Palestine needs to be saved from the claws of Israel and Zionists should be responded strongly.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor said Friday she wanted ICC to open a full investigation into “war crimes” in the Palestinian territories, sparking a furious reaction from Israel and condemnation from the United States.

The Palestinians welcomed the move by the ICC as a “long overdue step” following a nearly five-year preliminary probe by the prosecutor into the war crimes committed since the 2014 war in Gaza, AFP reported.

“I am satisfied that there is a reasonable basis to proceed with an investigation into the situation in Palestine,” ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said in a statement.

She said that before opening a full probe, she would ask the ICC to rule on the territory over which it has jurisdiction because of the “unique and highly contested legal and factual issues attaching to this situation.”

“Specifically, I have sought confirmation that the territory over which the court may exercise its jurisdiction, and which I may subject to investigation, comprises the West Bank, including East Jerusalem (Al-Quds), and Gaza.”

The prosecutor added however that she did not require any authorization from judges to open a probe as there had been a referral from the Palestinians, who joined the court in 2015.

Bensouda launched a preliminary probe in January 2015 into allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Israel and the Palestinian territories, in the wake of the 2014 Gaza war.

“Palestine welcomes this step as a long-overdue step to move the process forward toward an investigation, after nearly five long and difficult years of a preliminary examination,” the Palestinian statement said.

A full ICC investigation could possibly lead to charges against individuals.

The issue is highly sensitive, with former White House national security adviser John Bolton threatening last year to arrest ICC judges if they moved against Israel or the United States.

Both the US and Israel have refused to sign up to The Hague-based court, which was set up in 2002 to be the only global tribunal trying the world’s worst crimes, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the decision made The Hague-based court a “political tool” against the regime.

“We firmly oppose this and any other action that seeks to target Israel unfairly,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said of Washington’s top ally in the region.

“We do not believe the Palestinians qualify as a sovereign state, and they, therefore, are not qualified to obtain full membership, or participate as a state in international organizations, entities, or conferences, including the ICC.”

The ICC’s preliminary investigation has looked at the 2014 war which left 2,251 dead on the Palestinian side, the majority civilians, and 74 on the Israeli side, most of them soldiers.

It has also looked at violence near the Israel-Gaza fence in 2018.

Earlier this month, the ICC prosecutor refused to press charges over a deadly 2010 Israeli raid on a flotilla bringing aid to Gaza and urged that probe to be shut.

Nine Turkish citizens died in May 2010 when Israeli marines stormed the Mavi Marmara, among eight ships trying to break a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. One more died in hospital in 2014.
