He said that the field, contrary to what it seems, is a difficult field to work in.

“In VR cinema, there are works created by using HDM equipment that merge Pokemon characters in the real world through Google Map,” the South Korean expert said.

MR, or Mixed Reality, he said, is the result of combination of two different technologies. Using the technique, the VR can be experienced without having to use HDM, according to the expert.

He said that the Star War is a typical instance of the Mixed Reality or MR.

In Chinese legends, a boy is converted into a butterfly, he said, but the boy wonders if the transformation has happened in his dream or in the reality.

Paintings of the Baroque era seems real, he said, adding that the larger the field of view, the more inclusive will the filming be, and therefore the audience will more tangibly feel the context.

Some techniques require advanced computers for being implemented, Yoo Jung Hyun said noting that in Korea there are VR rooms equipped with special technologies that are also used in making computer games.

At the end of the workshop, he introduced various products of the Korean company HDM to the audience.

Narita Farhan, deputy director of Pakistan’s Electronic Media & Publications, was the presenter of the International Co-production panel at the third day of the 32nd International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Isfahan.

During the panel, the official said that the Pakistani government welcomes cooperation with any party who is interested in co-production of films.

The government, she said, gives quite a lot of incentives to local filmmakers, and any foreign producer who reaches an agreement with a Pakistani partner on filmmaking will also be considered as qualified to receive all the incentives.

She called on all filmmakers from around the world, particularly from Iran, for co-productions.

“In terms of security issues, the Pakistani government has strived hard to protect the civilians against threats, and now the country is safe and there is no daily report of insecurity,” she said.

Only in 6-10 percent of the country’s area, Farhan noted, people need special permission from the Pakistani government to go.

If anybody wishes to come to Pakistan for filmmaking, the government is willing to provide all kinds of facilities, including those related to the security issues, she said, adding that 70 percent of the content of the film that is planned to be made with Pakistani partners has to be related to the country.

She noted that the film should portray Pakistan in a positive light.

The official said that for any such cooperation, the government of Iran should sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Pakistan. Then the two sides have 45 days to review the project and propose any modification to it. After the period, the process can be launched, according to the official.

She also conveyed the eagerness of the Pakistani filmmakers on cooperation with their Iranian counterparts.

French animator Alexandre Athané was the presenter of the workshop titled “How to make a self-taught short animation film?” that was held at Isfahan’s Central Library on the sidelines of the 32nd Iran’s children film festival.

Winner of the prize for the best animation at the previous edition of the International Film Festival for Children and Youth (IFFCY), Alexandre Athané said that he was invited to the event again to hold the workshop for those who are interested in making animation.

“Animation making is a multidimensional task and anybody who wants to be an animation maker is required to know a minimum level of the technology, the state-of-the-art cinema tools, and knowhow of the directing animations,” he said.

Animation dates back to long time ago that the Neanderthals started to draw paintings of animals on the walls of caves, most of which are still there, he said adding that this shows that animation is based on paintings.

Speaking on the links between cinema and animation, Athané said, “Animation means movement of the picture and paintings, and cinema and films are too defined as the same.”

Referring to feedbooks, he said that everyone can use its paintings in consecutive frames to make an animation film. Then, you will get an idea of the number of pictures that you need for making an animation, the French artist said adding that he had made some 10,000 paintings for his first animation.

“If you have an open, strong mind, you will certainly find making animations an enjoyable activity, and even the skill can nurture the mind for doing other tasks,” he noted.

Explaining about the starting point of an animation work, Athané said that there is no need to have a live model as your main subject. Rather, he added, the world of animation is much wider than you can imagine. So, one can start with an object, he said noting that all of the time of an animator should be spent for making the story of the animation.

“I would advise you to start with painting and drawing sketches. This trial and error will let you awaken your sense of creativity. So, be patient and let your feelings help you be on the right track. Feelings and creativity can bring you ideas that nobody else has even thought about them.”

The session was followed by screening of two animations, and the French animator elaborated on the time spent on each part of the films.

The IFFCY International Manager Raed Faridzadeh said that the articles of the MoU are related to festival cooperation but it is expected that it goes beyond the festival and promote all types of cinematic cooperation among the three countries.

“Several sessions of bilateral and multilateral talks with the MoU parties pave the way for the agreement, which is expected to set the ground for cooperation among Asian and Eurasian countries,” he said.

Deoun Seo, the Korean representative, expressed hope that the MoU will lead to more future cooperation.

Referring to the presence of an Iranian filmmaker as a juror in the film festival of Seoul, she said that Korea looks to more brilliant ideas from Iranian filmmakers.

The Korean representative also expressed hope that the MoU sets the ground for more efforts aimed at a better future for children.

The Russian representative at the meeting, Nikolai Daan, said that when two or more parties join forces to do a task, they will certainly get stronger. Similarly, the three countries—Iran, Russia and South Korea—will make more useful efforts for children, and their thoughts and ideas will be better understood by the international community.

He said that the MoU will open doors to European and Asian countries. Daan also stressed that with the common cause of children, the three countries will try harder to achieve much more.

At the end of the meeting, the director of Iran’s children film festival, Alireza Tabesh said that Iran has signed many MoUs with other countries, but the current one is focused specifically on Eurasia.

“Our colleagues in the three countries have spent months on studying the fields of cooperation and the content of the agreement and it is a great honor for IFFCY that the result of the marathon of efforts is signed on the sidelines of the festival,” he said.

He expressed hope that the MoU would lead to much stronger and comprehensive cooperation among Iran, Russia and South Korea on cinema.

Addressing Iran-Russia production panel on the sidelines of the 32nd International Film Festival for Children and Youth, he said Russian enjoys great experiences in filmmaking arenas.

He added the “Silent Scream” looks at education as an educational tool, adding that children’s films are sent to schools, and teachers present them as a classroom curriculum in Russia.

He also stressed the need for boosting mutual cinematic ties in online and platform cinema.

Pointing to the Russia’s capability in producing animations, he called for expanding ties with Iran in this aria.

“In collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Education, we are releasing films for children and adolescents in schools so that those who are not able to go to the cinema can watch the film at school,” he added.

“Culture must be shared between children. The children and adolescent actors who came with us to Iran have been influenced by Iranian and Isfahan culture and their outlook has changed,” he added.

In the interval of the award ceremony, some scenes of the nostalgic Iranian films and TV series for children, such as “The Tales of Majid”, “Bashu”, “The Little Stranger”, and “Bag of Rice” were played by teenage actors.

In a meeting attended by the 32nd International Film Festival for Children and Youth Director Alireza Tabesh, the festival International Manager Raed Faridzadeh and Director General of Iraqi Cinema and Theater Department Ahmed Hassan Moussa, the ways for expansion of mutual ties were reviewed.

Tabesh expressed hope that the two sides could reach an agreement for producing joint film.

He added the Farabi Cinema Foundation has created a department for producing joint films, adding that Iran attaches great importance to expansion of ties with neighboring countries, Iraq in particular.

“As you know, Iran and Iraq have a lot in common in terms of culture and politics, that is why developing joint filmmaking with Iraq is a priority for Iran,” he said.

“So far, dozens of photo exhibitions on Arbaeen Walk have been held in Iran and the event’s pictures have been taken by Iranian photographers, as well as several films have produced by the Iranian Young Cinema Association. Another of our proposals is to hold a photo exhibition during this important religious event in Iraq,” he added.

In a meantime, the festival International Section Director Raed Faridzadeh said, “One of our proposed subjects is to make a joint feature film on Hashid al-Shaabi.”
The idea was also expressed during a meeting of the two countries’ culture ministers. In this case, we turn political negotiations into pragmatic measures, he added.

Mussa, for his part, said, ” We and the Iranian people have many goals in common and there is a very good relationship between the two countries.”

“Cinema and art can deepen this relationship as well. One of our suggestions is joint film productions. Of course, for co-production, we need to reach something that both parties are satisfied with,” he added.

He added that the Iraqi cinema industry is not active, but there are several movie theaters in Iraq.

“Iranian film “Mohammed Rasulullah” was highly welcomed among the Iraqi people. Iraqi people bought tickets to the movie a week before the movie was released.

“We are ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on joint product development and we would like to launch one of the Iranian films about Muharram from the beginning of this month. In addition, we would like to invite the makers of Iranian films to be released in Iraq,” he added.

He also invited the Iranian filmmakers to hold workshops about Iranian cinema in Iraq

“At the time of the screening of Iranian films in Iraqi cinemas, a space could be allocated for displaying photos of the Arbaeen Walk,” the Iraqi official added.

The first panel of making a joint film at the international committee of the 32nd International Film Festival of Children and Youth was held on August 20 in presence of the prominent Serbian filmmaker Mirolijub Vuckovic at the Central Library of Isfahan.

At the meeting, Vuckovic elaborated on the process of making a joint film by Iran and Serbia, sponsored by Farabi Cinema Foundation. The panel was followed by a press conference on the process.

Noting the complexity of making a joint film, he said that the agreement between Iran and Serbia was made in the international film festival in Germany based on the standards of both countries.

“Serbia is cooperating on making joint films with other countries, including Greece and France. Now, based on the ethical and environmental standards of Iran and Serbia the agreement was made with Farabi as a result of a shared understanding. Therefore, joint festivals and student and professor exchange in the field of filmmaking and cinema are expected,” he said.

Vuckovic added that the archive of the joint films will be at Serbia’s conservation center for arts, he added.

“The center is willing to cooperate with Iran, and will remain committed to the principles of the agreement,” the Serbian filmmaker said.

“For 12 years, I have been studying the cinemas of other countries, and it was the cinema of Iran that caught my eyes. The cinema is one of the most important arts that has been focused on by the center. Opening institutes for preserving arts and keeping the joint productions is another principle of the agreement,” he explained.

The filmmaker said, “Tehran, Shiraz and Tabriz are the cities that have been chosen for making the joint films.”

The international department of the Farabi Cinema Foundation made many efforts and coordinated many sessions of talks for reaching the agreement, he said. It was concluded at the end that 6 projects, 3 related to each countries, be examined and one of them be chosen for production. The project will address the field of young and adolescent movies, and probably will be inclined to kids’ movies.

He also said that the most important issue for making a joint film is to make sure that no mistakes will be made on economic, ethical and cultural dimensions, as there would not be any second chance for trial and error.

Presided by Alireza Tabesh, the 32nd International Film Festival for Children and Youth is currently underway in Province of Isfahan through August 26 in the national and international sections.
