IKIA to operate domestic flights

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Imam Khomeini International Airport is ready to operate domestic flights, said the IKIA deputy director for airport operations.

“Passengers will have more options to choose once some of the domestic flights are transferred to IKIA,” Hassan Khoshkhoo said on Tuesday.

The decision is expected to considerably reduce traffic at Tehran’s International Mehrabad Airport, which currently operates domestic flights from the capital city.

According to the official, no particular route has been considered for permanent relocation to IKIA and the number of flights will be determined by market demand.

Managing director of Imam Khomeini Airport City said over 50 Iranian company have registered to invest in free trade zone of IKAC.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 4th International Exhibition of Transportation, Logistics and Related Industries at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla on Monday, Rostami said, “There are many investment opportunities in IKAC for local and international companies due to its closeness to the capital city and access to IKAC surrounding areas.”

“This year, we succeeded in gaining number transit by the Islamic Republic of Iran for import and export,” he added.

“As a result, transits through FTZ at IKAC will experience a boost in the near future,” Rostami noted.

He described the ongoing exhibition as a great opportunity to better introduce the potentials of domestic experts to the investors.

IKAC eases registration of companies at Free Trade Zone

Mohammad Reza Karimian, member of the board of directors at IKAC and responsible for logistics management, said Tuesday the new center is aimed at facilitating the registration of new companies seeking to start their operation in the free trade zone, according to IKAC press.

The official pointed to the “great potential for large local and international companies to invest in the FTZ at IKAC,” saying, the short distance to capital Tehran and easy access to IKAC’s surrounding areas have provided a great opportunity for investors in this zone.

The process of registering a company takes seven days upon the establishment of the new building, he added.

IKAC, which includes a 1,500-hectare free trade zone and a 2,500-hectare special economic zone in a 13,700-hectare area, aims at helping national and international companies cluster around the airport and engage in business activities, Karimian said.

The airports free trade zone was launched in June.

IKAC to launch four infrastructural projects this week

Managing Director of IKAC Ali Rostami said on Monday that the projects include, a new airport operation control center (AOCC), and provision of smart airside vehicles and a slope at Terminal 1 for easy access to parking, as well as a new fuel line connecting the fuel station to the lanes, IKAC News reported.

The referred to the “great investment potentials of Imam Khomeini Airport City,” saying that grounds have been provided to attract domestic and foreign investors to take part in IKAC’s major projects.

The move to expand the airport’s throughput capacities comes in line with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s policy to evolve IKIA into a major cargo and passenger hub in the Middle East.

The airport’s free trade zone was launched in June.

Connecting IKIA to the international transportation networks, including the East-West and North-South corridors, as well as linking it to the national railway and Tehran’s subway system are among the main steps to achieve such a goal.

IKAC, which includes a 1,500-hectare free trade zone and a 2,500-hectare special economic zone in a 13,700-hectare area, aims to help national and international companies to cluster around the airport and engage in business activities, the deputy said.

Among the other objectives pursued by IKAC are: Creating sustainable sources of income to improve aeronautical, cargo and passenger operations, boosting foreign exchange revenues, creating sustainable economic growth, increasing airline companies’ revenues, and enriching the connection time of transiting passengers.

Iran not to engage in war against any nation: Rouhani

He made the remarks on Tuesday at the ceremony of inaugurating Imam Khomeini International Airport’s (IKIA) Salam Terminal.

While enemies are claiming that Iran’s development has been stopped in a bid to kill the hope of Iranian people, we are witnessing new developments and growth in Iran’s economy and society despite all pressures, he said.

This is a ‘war of hope and will’, he said, adding that enemies want to destroy the Iranian nation’s hope for the future of the country.

Enemies have ramped up pressure against the Iranian nation and of course, Tehran’s retaliatory measures have also increased, he noted, highlighting, “the Iranian nation will be the victor at the end of this conflict … we will not fight against any nation, our opposition is a group of inexperienced politicians.”

“They bear animosity towards each member of the Iranian nation. Undoubtedly, they will not achieve success in this confrontation.”

Rouhani noted that Salam Terminal was constructed within two years with the efforts of Iranian engineers which is a great achievement for the country.

Imam Khomeini Intl. Airport ready to operate 2019 Hajj flights

Caretaker of IKAC’s Operation Affairs Department, Hassan Khashkhoo, said during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, about 29,000 pilgrims will be dispatched to Saudi Arabia via this airport.

The official noted that the airport will start the Hajj flights on July 8, and the process will continue until August 5.

Addressing the first meeting of the Hajj flights coordination in 2019, Khashkhoo added that the pilgrims’ returning flights will start on August 17 and will continue until September 8.

Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport is distinguished as the third fastest-growing major airport in the world.

IKAC presently has a passenger capacity of around five million per year. However, in the last Iranian year (March 2017-18), the airport hosted a record of over nine million passengers.

Operated by Iran Airports Company, IKAC is located 30 kilometers southwest of Iran’s capital city Tehran.
