IAIO CEO: Simorgh aircraft price half of its foreign equivalents

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The CEO of the Iran Aviation Industry Organization (IAIO) has listed the local Simorgh aircraft’s advantages in terms of logistics, commercial transportation, emergency, and cost-effectiveness.

Regarding the price of the homegrown aircraft, IAIO chief Brigadier General Afshin Khajeh Fard said on Sunday that Simorgh’s price is 50-60 percent of its foreign equivalents.

Visiting the testing stage of the plane, the general added the platform Iran-140 has been used to convert it into a light transport aircraft.

Pointing out that the aircraft is for transport purposes with a rear ramp door, he added that it is designed to carry out all the missions of a tactical transport plane.

Regarding the changes in the planning of the aircraft, General Khajeh Fard said: “The changes of this plane compared to the basic plane are in configuration, planning and hydromechanical systems, including control surface mechanisms, hydraulic system, auxiliary engine, air conditioning system, interior and cargo equipment, and electrical system.”

He provided more details about the aircraft, saying the length of its body has increased by more than 2 meters. The vertical and horizontal tails have also completely changed. The interior of the aircraft has also been designed indigenously, and all the documents and maps are designed based on standard airplanes.

Brigadier General Khaje Fard considered the engine of the Simorgh aircraft “superior” to the engine of Iran-140, adding that the engine has been upgraded compared to the previous platform in terms of fueling and electronic control.

Pointing to flight manuals and the compatibility, the general considered the aircraft “efficient,” saying Simorgh’s efficiency is tested and approved by the expert teams of the Civil Aviation Organization and the Armed Forces.

“This aircraft has capabilities, like the possibility of landing and taking off on dirt runways,” stated the general, pointing to the unique geographical conditions and natural disasters in Iran where Simorgh can be a useful aircraft.

The Simorgh aircraft has been designed under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Organization and based on the DOADesign Organization Approval certificate, according to the general.

He added that the DOADesign Organization Approval certificate is based on the national regulations of Iran.

“Also, Simorgh is designed based on applicable rules for aircraft heavier than 5,670 kg or 12,500 pounds (AP-25). In short, it can be said that this aircraft was designed based on the system product regulations related to its class and is undergoing the process of obtaining the relevant certificate,” reiterated General Khaje Fard.

Iran condemns US sanctions on AEOI chief

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran criticized US new sanctions on the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) chief Ali Akbar Salehi, saying they will not impede the country’s peaceful nuclear activities.

“Sanctioning this prominent scientific and political figure, which has been made only out of desperation, will have no effect on the development of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said Friday.

“This is not the first time that he has been placed on the list of illegal and unilateral sanctions, just as it is not the first time that our nuclear scientists have been the target of the animosity of the US and the Zionist regime,” Mousavi said.

The remarks came after the US Treasury Department announced sanctions targeting AEOI and its top official on Thursday.

Mousavi added that the new sanctions targeting Iran, among Washington’s other hostile measures against the country, were aimed at diverting public opinion from Donald Trump’s failed policies and the ongoing impeachment process.

“US officials seem to have put such crude and absurd motions on the agenda against the Iranian nation to divert public opinion from the domestic developments stemming from Trump’s impeachment and the early failure of the so-called deal of the century.”

AEOI spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi also dismissed the sanctions as a “political game” which have been imposed out of desperation and have no value.

“Iran’s nuclear programs will strongly continue” despite the sanctions, he said.

“Imposing sanctions on Ali Akbar Salehi and Atomic Energy Organization of Iran is a sign of America’s despair and is a political game played by Washington. These sanctions have no value and are childish measures,” Kamalvandi said.

The US Treasury will, however, issue waivers to sanctions that bar non-US firms, including Russian, Chinese, and European companies, from continuing their work in certain AEOI-related projects such as the heavy water reactor in Arak, the Fordo enrichment facility, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and the Tehran research reactor.

Leading Republican senators and other Iran hawks had lobbied intensively to stop the latest waivers as Trump seeks to exert more pressure on Iran after the two longtime foes came toward the brink of war in early January.

Thursday’s sanctions announcement comes against the backdrop of widespread American sanctions already imposed on Tehran after Washington withdrew from the multilateral Iran 2015 nuclear deal in May 2018.

The Trump administration has since repeatedly imposed new sanctions on Iran, with many questioning whether they have much of an effect with far-reaching bans already targeting all trade with the country.

The sanctions are part of the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign, which Tehran views as a form of economic terrorism.

Iran seeks to export aerospace equipment: IAIO head

Speaking to the Iranian media in Moscow, Russia on Monday, Brigadier General Abdoklarim Banitarafi, head of Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO), said “the products we have brought to Russia are all for export because we seek to demonstrate our export potentials and talk with friendly countries to sell our products.”

The IAIO head said that Iran has many products for export in various fields, but at the Russian air show it will only showcase the products currently available for export.

He added that Iran is in talks with friendly countries of Russia and China etc., especially Muslim countries in a bid to find markets for its aerospace products.

He added that in Iran’s pavilion in the MAKS air show this year, there are different versions of Iranian-made UAVs, including long and short-range models, and an instance of training jet, as well as some instances of plane engines.

Maks International Aviation and Space will be held from August 27 to September 1 in Zhukovsky near the Russian capital of Moscow.

As many as 340 companies including from Iran will be taking part in the event to showcase their latest aerospace and aerial achievements.
