The idea of a wormhole that can transport you through space and time may sound like an idea from a science fiction blockbuster.

But a new study claims that these wormholes ‘could be possible’ in reality, the Mirror reported.

Researchers from Princeton University have used quantum mechanics to theorize conditions that could result in large enough wormholes.

In the study, published on the preprint server arXiv, the researchers, led by Juan Maldacena explained: “From the outside they resemble intermediate mass charged black holes.

“Their big size comes from demanding that a human traveler can survive the tidal forces. They take a very short proper time to traverse, but a long time as seen from the outside.

“The traveler acquires a very large boost factor, γ, as it goes through the center of the wormhole. We have argued this most clearly for the case that the wormhole exists in a cold and flat ambient space.

“We have not given any plausible mechanism for their formation. We have only argued that they are configurations allowed by the equations.”

The researchers suggest that such wormholes could allow time-travelers to travel between distant points in our galaxy within seconds.

They added: “This model allows for large enough wormholes that could be traversed humanely, i.e. surviving the tidal forces.

“Using them, one could travel in less than a second between distant points in our galaxy.

“A second for the observer that goes through the wormhole. It would be tens of thousands of years for somebody looking from the outside.”

While the new study indicates that wormholes could exist, finding them may be a challenge.

Speaking to LiveScience back in 2012, Professor Stephen Hsu from the University of Oregon, said: “You would need some of super-super-advanced technology. Humans won’t be doing this any time in the near future.”

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejected as groundless a recent US report accusing Iran of involvement in human trafficking, saying the one-sided report is aimed at drawing the world’s attention away from Washington’s own failure to fulfill its commitment to combating human trafficking.

“We believe that the US government is seeking to distract the world’s attention from its commitments under international treaties and conventions in human trafficking by playing a blame game,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said in on Wednesday.

He said the “biased” US report leveling “groundless and bogus” accusations against Iran has been based upon unauthentic sources and data.

The Islamic Republic of Iran vehemently condemns the US government for releasing unreliable reports on human trafficking and leveling undue accusations against independent states, the spokesperson added.

Qassemi then noted that as a signatory of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, Iran has so far adopted massive executive and legal measures in the fight against “the nasty phenomenon” of human trafficking.

“Iran’s measures have been confirmed by the related UN-affiliated institutions and mentioned in the reports released by the UN Office on Drug and Crime,” he stressed.

Iran maintains that in the fight against human trafficking, particularly the trafficking of children and women, one needs to address the fundamental and basic causes behind the phenomenon, particularly foreign intervention and armed clashes, he said.

“It goes without saying that the US interventionist and destabilizing policies across the globe, especially in Western Asia and Africa, have paved the way for the emergence of transnational criminal gangs which are active in human trafficking,” Qassemi added.

He also described the US president’s latest request from the executive managers of International Monetary Fund and multi-lateral development banks for depriving Iran of financial facilitates as an indication of his ignorance of international organizations’ legal mechanisms.

Moreover, “requests like this amount to Washington’s stark interference in international organizations’ affairs and inflict a blow on their legal independence,” he concluded.

On Saturday, the White House announced that Iran, Venezuela, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, South Sudan and Sudan will be added to the list of the countries subject to restrictions for the fiscal year 2018 due to what it calls failing to fight human trafficking.

TEHRAN – While announcing continued studies to send humans to space, the head of Iran’s Aerospace Research Institute (ARI) said they may try sending a robot or a live creature before the final stage of sending a human.

Regarding the project for sending a live creature to space which was halted, the head of ARI Fathollah Ommi stated “we have successfully launched a monkey to space, and now we are conducting research to send a man to space.”

“The preliminary measures to send a human to space are currently underway and the project is to be carried out in two suborbital and orbital phases” said Ommi, stressing that the project is in the study stage at the moment.

According to the head of ARI, the orbital phase of the project will be operational by 2025 and the suborbital phase will take place before that.

When asked whether they will send another live creature into space before a human, he said “it might happen.” Since they intend to launch the live creature to different altitudes of space, several experiments must be conducted to test the selected trajectory for sending a human. It is required to launch the live creature at least 6 times, before they are ready to carry out this mission with a human onboard, he added.

“We might use a robot or another live creature prior to sending a human. If this mission is successful, we will launch a human to space after conducting the necessary tests.” Ommi stated.
