TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Foreign Ministry of Iran dismissed allegations made by the UN Secretariat that the missiles used in attacks on Saudi Aramco last year were of Iranian origin, saying the accusations have been raised under political pressures from Washington and Riyadh.

Following is the statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Friday:

The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects the allegations of the UN Secretariat, which is clearly under political pressure from the US and Saudi regimes and expresses its deep concern over the abuse of the UN Secretariat for political purposes.

The Secretariat, based on an unusual interpretation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, has so far refrained from reporting on numerous violations by the United States and the European States with respect to the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA (Annex A to the Resolution), inter alia, the unlawful withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, which is a grave violation of Resolution 2231 and its subsequent illegal actions towards UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by re-imposition of sanctions.

While the Secretariat has treated with utmost tolerance and leniency towards these violations so far, it is now surprisingly engaged with an issue in which it has no authority to point out highly technical and legal findings, and its so-called technical report is in no way in line with the practical arrangements of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 to perform its functions.

Interestingly, the Secretariat’s report coincides with the US’ move to propose a dangerous draft resolution that paves the way for the extension of arms restrictions on Iran in an illegal way; and yet more surprisingly, the content of this report is used by the US two weeks prior to its official release. The aforementioned fact creates the impression that the report has been prepared under the direction of the United States and to be used in the efforts of that State in the Security Council against Iran.

Leveling accusations against other states using self-created processes and arbitrary procedures is a dangerous heresy, which is not accepted by the international community. Such dictated processes will cause severe damage to the credibility and undermine the integrity of the United Nations. Preparing a report with political motives never changes the facts on the ground, and it is obvious to everyone that the current situation in the region is a direct result of the wrong policies of the United States and the child-murderer regime of Saudi Arabia. How is it that the UN Secretary-General refuses to take into consideration the sale of lethal weapons to Saudi Arabia, the use of which against the defenseless people of Yemen is indisputable, but rather, he is sending his investigation teams to search through Saudi waste materials to provide evidence for US baseless claims?

Undoubtedly, such reports will not only fail to help bring peace and security to the region and implement the UN resolutions but will also completely destroy the credibility and reputation of the United Nations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly recommends that the UN Secretariat not move in the pre-planned US scenario to prevent the lifting of Iran’s arms restrictions and not assist a violating State in this dangerous process by circulating such unlawful reports. The United States itself is the gravest violator of Security Council Resolution 2231, and no one can clear the name of that State from systematic violations of international rules.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Yemen expects serious actions rather than words from the Saudi-led coalition, the chairman of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of Yemen said, dismissing the coalition’s extension of a unilateral ceasefire in the war-ravaged country by one month as simply media maneuver.

“Over the past two weeks, what we witnessed ran counter to what was declared since there were upticks in bombardments as well as escalation (of clashes) on all fronts by the alliance,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi wrote in a post published on his Twitter page on Saturday.

The remarks came a day after the Saudi-led military coalition decided to “extend the ceasefire for a month,” according to its spokesman Turki al-Maliki, the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

A two-week ceasefire in Yemen announced earlier by the alliance expired on Thursday, without leading to a permanent truce.

Violence continued in several provinces, including Ma’rib, a stronghold of Saudi-backed militiamen loyal to Yemen’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, throughout the period.

Aid groups worry that persisting fighting in the war-torn country could cause a catastrophe, and further undermine its already weakened ability to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Yemen reported its first coronavirus case earlier this month in the oil-producing southern province of Hadhramaut, which is under the control of Saudi-sponsored Hadi loyalists.

The supreme national emergency committee for COVID-19 in Yemen said on April 10 the infected patient was identified in the port town of Ash Shihr, and he was in stable condition and receiving care.

Separately, the president of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Mohammad al-Mashat, described the comprehensive solution plan submitted by the Houthi Ansarullah movement on a nationwide ceasefire and cessation of the ongoing Saudi-led blockade as promising and a practical way out of Yemen’s conflict.

“The peace initiative that we announced on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the September 21 Revolution is still standing,” Mashat said in an exclusive interview with Arabic-language al-Thawra (Revolution) daily newspaper published on Saturday, stressing that Yemeni forces reserve the right to respond to any act of aggression.

On April 9, Ansarullah presented to the United Nations a comprehensive peace plan aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen.

The plan reportedly consists of three pivotal issues: it demands a ceasefire and a complete halt to the Saudi-led onslaught, the abolition of the tight blockade imposed on Yemen, adoption of economic and humanitarian measures, and initiation of the inter-Yemeni political process.

Mashat further noted that they were in touch with Saudi Arabia as they “will not close any door that leads to peace,” but stressed, “We will not make concessions that would threaten the sovereignty of our country.”

He highlighted that Yemen welcomes friendly and cordial relations with all world countries, and wishes for a lasting and comprehensive peace.

Mashat said the United Nations is providing cover for the Saudi-led coalition of aggression and doing nothing to alleviate the repercussions of the economic war on Yemen, calling on Russia and other major world powers to play their roles and safeguard international treaties.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past five years.

More than half of Yemen’s hospitals and clinics have been destroyed or closed during the war by the Saudi-led coalition, which is supported militarily by the UK, US, and other Western nations.

At least 80% of the 28 million-strong population is also reliant on aid to survive in what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

According to the UN’s top aid official, Mark Lowcock, civilian casualties have risen every month since January.

Yemen’s Houthi on Sunday wrested control of a strategic city in the north of Yemen i.e., al-Hazm, the capital of the province of al-Jawf, following weeks of fighting with forces backed by Saudi-led allies.

According to a Jordanian political analyst, the control of Houthis on al-Jawf can be translated as failure of the new Saudi-Emirati military coalition.

“Taking control of Hazm is of significance for Houthis have improved towards the Saudi borders,” he said in a televised program on Al Jazeera.

“The Saudi-UAE coalition entered Yemen to restore the legitimacy of Mansour Hadi’s government, but gained no military achievements.”

“What happened in Jawf was probably tactical and gradual, but not militarily or strategically easy because it means the Houthis are approaching Saudi Arabia and destruction of Mansour Hadi” he added.

On the same program, an official from Political Office of Ansarallah said, “Saudi Arabia is currently negotiating security, areas, and depths of its territory, not Yemen because the Saudis have no right in Yemen.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Yemen’s Houthis on Sunday censured the UN medical evacuation plan as inadequate for thousands of people in urgent need of treatment.

“The World Health Organization said it will transport via a small UN plane only seven patients with their escorts per flight,” the officials said in a statement carried by Al-Masira channel.

“The number of people signed up for the UN medical evacuations plan is around 32,000 patients with serious illnesses,” Houthis official said.

Critically ill Yemeni children in need of medical care were evacuated from Sana’a on Monday, in what the United Nations said it hopes will be the first of many mercy flights, AFP reported.

Welcoming the start of the humanitarian airlift, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said that others were handed a “death sentence” when the coalition closed down the airport in Sana’a.

“Today’s move comes too late for thousands of Yemenis who died waiting to leave the country for urgent life-saving care,” said Mohamed Abdi, the NRC’s country director for Yemen.

“We hope that these medical flights will save the lives of other Yemenis. Many more are still waiting to get the health care they need.”

At least 32,000 Yemenis are estimated to have died waiting to get specialized medical treatment abroad according to the Ministry of Health in Sana’a, nrc.no reported.

The medical flights will transport 30 patients to Cairo and Amman with chronic diseases who cannot be treated inside Yemen.

Seven young patients and their families gathered at Sana’a airport, which has been closed to commercial flights since 2016, clutching their transport documents ahead of their journey to the Jordanian capital Amman.

“This is the first of what we hope and believe will be many flights,” UN Resident Coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande said as the first humanitarian flight was prepared to depart from the war-torn country.

“It’s a very important day, it’s a day of hope. It shows that everyone wants the people who need help to get that help,” she told reporters at the airport.

“The key is to have many flights, bigger planes, so that the people who need aid can get to the places where they will receive it.”

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths last month told the Security Council that “we are very close to seeing the first flight move 30 patients who are now waiting in Sanaa for their treatment”.

The move was among confidence-building measures aimed at ending a five-year war which has left tens of thousands of people dead and displaced millions in what the UN has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Houthis control swathes of Yemen since a Saudi-backed government fled the country in late 2014. The development caused Saudi Arabia and allies to launch an all-out war on the impoverished country.

The Saudi-led war has triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with the World Food Programme saying that over 11 million people face a daily struggle to find enough food, and 240,000 people live in famine-like conditions.

In November, the coalition – which controls Yemen’s airspace – said that patients needing medical care would be allowed to be flown out of Sana’a.

One of the children waiting for the evacuation flight, Abdullah Abed, is suffering from kidney failure and needs an organ transplant, his father told AFP.

“Severe diseases in Yemen are many, and people need to travel. The United Nations must operate the air bridge regularly, send abroad patients suffering from diseases, open Sanaa airport, and end the blockade of Yemen”, Abed Ali Murshid said.

Yemeni troops on Tuesday afternoon intercepted and targeted a reconnaissance mission over al-Kasarah area of the region, situated 844 kilometers (524 miles) south of the capital Riyadh, Yemeni media reported.

On Saturday, the Yemeni soldiers took down another Saudi-led drone over the Jabal al-Alam mountainous area in the southern border region of Jizan.

The Houthi Ansarullah movement said at the time that, the drone, an unmanned aerial vehicle was targeted with a proper missile as it was conducting “hostile acts” in Najran.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past four and a half years.

The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
